Hold on now. Metal Gear fans hate this game? So that means its the worst in the series, right?
I think i might have underestimated Metal Gear, because if this is the worst one i can only imagine how godlike the other games must be. Where do i start after this if i seriously want to get into Metal Gear games? In which order do i play them?
Matthew Jones
it is a top tier Metal Gear game but a low-tier Platinum game made by C-team in six months
Adrian Wright
No despite having to play as raiden over grey fox, it destroys shit walker
Luke Wilson
Jesus fucking christ.
Most of the Metal Gear fans love Revengeance, but don't take it too seriously.
You play in this order >MGS1 >MGS2 >MGS3 >MGS4 >MGSPW >MGSV: GZ >MGSV: TPP
Jack Reyes
That doesn't seem chronological.
Jayden Murphy
FPBP
Jordan Gray
what makes you think people hate this game? jesus christ
Sebastian Martinez
fuck you it goes in release order - how its meant to be played
Gavin Bell
>>MGS4 >>MGSPW
Tyler Martin
The last 3 are ignorable honestly.
Evan Reyes
Yeah, because Transformers, Kora, and Ninja Turtles are drastically better games right?
John Jackson
the only person I know whom I'd describe as a metal gear fan who hates MGR is a guy who is quite literary gay for mgs2/4 raiden presented with rising his reaction was >THEY RUINED HIIIIIM!!! this is verbatim quote
Benjamin Sanchez
>top tier Metal Gear game but a low-tier Platinum game
Think you got that backwards, homie.
Aiden Gomez
>Metal Gear fans hate this game >So that means its the worst in the series, right? haha no it means its the best
Noah Lee
Of course it isn't, but that's the release order and it's correct.
You won't understand shit and you'll hate the pacing if you'll go chronologically.
Playing in chronological order is the best way to start hating the series.
If he's such a newfag that he hasn't played MG to this day he'll definitely want to play the newest games in the series, even if PW/TPP are trash.
What's wrong?
Caleb Sanchez
>Metal Gear fans hate this game?
Are you kidding? Its a better MGS5 than MGSV was.
Gavin Thompson
>meming soulsfag fanbase
no thanks fuck off revengeance
Jayden Jenkins
> Transformers, Kora in terms of actual polish and WORKING camera -- yes.
nah man, i'm right
Dylan Cox
I don't think that anyone hates this game. There is a lot to criticize, but hating it is almost impossible. And as a MGS-fan I think it's a great spin-off. The best thing is that it doesn't retcon shit, unlike other games coming afterwards.
Jeremiah Bailey
The guy seriously failed to understand MGS2 then.
Isaiah Parker
RELEASE ORDER E L E A S E
O R D E R
CUNT U N T
Tyler Smith
>meming soulsfag fanbase
What the fuck do you mean
Angel Garcia
...
Adam Flores
it goes, 3, portable ops, POplus, peace walker, phantom pain, metal gear, metal gear 2, MGS, VR missions, MGS2, MGS4, revengence, (snatcher)
you fucking noobs.
>topic most way back fans haven't played it cause they remember raiden as a pussy and not redeemed badass mode he became in 4.
Asher Morales
Rising is completely different from the other Metal Gear games. Play the entirety of Solid in release order and consider it a separate series.
Tyler Thomas
you ACTUALLY think Korra is more polished than MGR? are you fucking serious right now?
why do so many people on Sup Forums try to be contrarian, even when it means they would be outright wrong?
Daniel Bell
Chronologically you should play like this: Mgs3 Mgs Portable Operation (inb4 non canon. Stilm pretty cool story and soundtrack) Mgs PW Mgs TPP Mg1 Mg2 Mgs1 Mgs2 Mgs4 Mgs R
Mason Miller
Get the fuck out of here. Release Order only.
David Turner
this should be a sticky here : PLAY MGS GAMES IN RELEASE ORDER
also ADACHI IS THE KILLER
Austin Perry
>Youngsters born after MGS1 think chronological is the right order
Nicholas Ramirez
why?
plus you don't have the original metal gears in that release order list, opinion discarded.
Wyatt Jenkins
of course it is
have you actually tried to play MGR on higher difficulties (from scratch) and/or later VR missions?
it's a shitfest made so much worse by a camera that is actively programmed to hide enemies from you
Korra is not much fun on New Game from scratch on hardcore difficulty but at least it was a shorter game
Jonathan Russell
I think you walked into the wrong thread buddy
Josiah Jackson
Because the games are linear in terms of the development of gameplay complexity, design, themes, callbacks and overall structure. Release order is always superior.
John Parker
Metal gear fans hate it because it doesnt take ktself very seriously and it kinda ruins the character of raiden for them or something. At the time i thought it was a pretty underwhelming platinum title but after the shovelware they shat out and the upcoming scalebound i think its pretty ok.
Ethan Collins
Transformers is way better than MGR. Korra and tmnt tho are shit no question
Ayden Sanders
Read the thread. Nobody hates it.
Noah Ortiz
MGR is the most fun MG game. But the others are better stories/experiences
Jayden Sanders
>rising >hated by fans
That's not mgs4
Jaxon Hughes
Blind playthrough on Hard isn't really much trouble m8. As someone who is clearly bad at games, you should really stop talking about Platinum games like you know something.
Christian Scott
>ruins the character of raiden for them Sure
Austin Butler
>just slut my shit up
Poor cuck. Probably loves the nigger dick craving hooker, too
Brandon Garcia
>tfw you can't play MGS4 and Peace Walker HD on a PC I don't wanna buy a decade old console for two games
Elijah Collins
I wouldnt know, im not really into metal gear. Thats just what people were complaining about when mgr came out years ago in the threads.
Nathan Lewis
Playing MGR without using the Codex makes Raiden seem like an unlikeable edge lord
The Codex is great.
>Call to save while Raiden is all Ripper >Acting edgy and tough >"Okay Raiden, do you want to save?" >Pick no >"But, why did you call me" >Raiden with edgy voice "I.... forgot"
Christian Bennett
>at least it was a shorter game
so because it's barely 2 hours long that makes it better? the graphics are horrible, the psuedo-cel shading in korra looks ugly as sin the combat is so easy that it's a joke, I don't think they actually bothered testing the game all that well, because if you are even remotely competent at games, then it has no challenge whatsoever, you can spam attacks without even having to think about dodging the in-engine cutscenes don't fit the tone of the series at all, it just feels like generic machinegun-punch spam you see in anime
whereas your complaint about MGR is "the camera is bad" is the camera bad? yes is the camera bad enough to make korra a better game? not by a fucking mile
Leo White
well that's kinda the case, since the particular guy I was talking about was assmad about how rising undid the development raiden had in 4
it's just a character, I don't get it why some people are so autismal
Nathaniel Foster
>Blind playthrough on Hard Hard mode in Revengeance is quite clearly a normal mode renamed "hard" with everything balanced around it and then pared down to "normal" (they did the same with Bayo 2)
by "later difficulties" i mean Revengeance and then Very Hard (in THAT order because VH is much harder than RV mode)
The game also present shitty leveling up system which turns the game into a joke with fully upgraded OP weapons and bullshit fest with level 1 swords where you have to rely perfect parrying and constantly rely on RNG and bait enemies into doing attack you can perfect parry instead of actually controlling the fight
Gabriel Hughes
more power to him
Jeremiah Smith
Oh sorry when you said "from scratch" I thought you would be talking about the single hardest difficulty available on a fresh playthrough, you retard
Christopher Allen
Fans loved 4. The fans hated Portable ops, peace walker, MGR and 5
Kevin Gray
>Metal Gear fans hate this game? I've never seen much hate for Revengeance anywhere, it's actually pretty underrated imo
the only real criticism I can imagine anyone having with it is that it's not a stealth game, but it was never advertised as one anyway so that shouldn't matter.
Well, also the fact that the final boss is way easier than people hype it up to be. But still, fantastic game.
Jeremiah Clark
What development? He was a emo git in 4 and took nothing from what Snake told him in 2. MGR actually showed him having his mental breakdown because of all the shit he went through in his life
Alexander Morales
Transformers was fucking AMAZING. Literally the only flaw was the fucking shitty environments. CITY CITY SHIP CITY SHIP SHIP WOOOO
But the gameplay was some of Platinum's most refined. If you can play T:D and honestly say you think it's on the same level as KORRA of all things, your opinion is shit and you're shit.
I haven't played turtles, so I have no opinion there.
Zachary Taylor
His VA really nailed Raiden's three personas, other than Ripper, you can tell when Raiden is projecting himself as the badass second coming of solid snake and when he's letting the bravado slip and speaking honestly as himself
Dylan Martin
MGR has basically flaws in basically every single fundamental thing that makes up a videogame:
-- movement. Semi-automatic dash that Raiden does *sometimes* when you tilt the stick and press light sword attack is basically this game batman teleport towards the enemy so that casual MGS player don't have to actually move their character. More so, a lot of the movesets involve Raiden moving around way to fucking much which further fucks up proper positioning.
-- camera. God fucking awful. It's so terrible you can't even fix it with any mods. Usually level design has to be planned with camera in mind so that you won't get it walls and stuff -- MGR wasn't.
-- lock-on. In this game lock-on DOESN'T actually LOCK to an enemy. I mean it kinda does but if enemy moves out of camera PoV it *might* slip off to another enemy because god knows why.
This game screws up such basic things as movement, camera and lock-on, while Korra while quite clearly NOT a good game -- doesn't.
Aiden Butler
>recommending to play through Metal Gear in chronological order don't do this
Owen Martinez
well the guy is quite in love with raiden and thinks rose is best mgs girl, I suppose mgs4 end was his otp I quite agree with you, I can't fathom how his mind works
Levi Ward
>nah man, i'm right >Top-tier Metal Gear Yeah...The stealth, story and voice acting is SOOO amazing in fucking MGR. Stupid as shit.
Ryan Sanchez
>that one interview he did were he did the Jack the Ripper voice and said "I'll tear off you head and shit down your neck"
Fuck I wish I saved the audio from that
Ryder Collins
Snake wanted Raiden to have a bright future as one of the people he could say he fought for, neglecting that Raiden's soldier conditioning may have been even more deeply ingrained than his. The foible was Snake's, not Raiden's.
Ryan Hall
Considering how short the game was, they packed a ton of fun codec stuff into it. Like the one with Sunny telling Raiden how much of a player Otacon has become, and realizes she's a huge dork.
Grayson Green
Very Hard IS available to be played on a fresh playthrough and it is a complete shitfest that exposes MGR for unbalanced mess it is
Even RV mode from scratch while more in the realm of possibility is bullshit because you can't really do it sequentially as you would think.
In the first level where you only have level 1 sword against Mistral -- there is absolutely zero chance to reach enough max combo points with just regular sword unless you do it second time and have her polearm unlocked
Juan Russell
Armstrong in a fresh hard playthrough is plenty fifficult, at least compared to every other section of the game except sams dlc, maybe. when the game first came out there was a lot of discussion about it, people either loved it because of "cuhrazy" or hated it because muh raiden character development, im surprised people forgot about how vocal everyone was about the game at the time.
Eli Ramirez
>The one were Sunny asks Raiden why he ripped their gate open and that he broke it doing that
Jayden Gutierrez
>being this pissy about the camera and lock-on I've actually played through the game, and I've never had issues with the camera. And there's really no need or reason to use the lock-on.
Ethan Powell
Raiden is actually my favorite character in MGS but you're friend is fucking retarded. Raiden's breakdown was a long time coming. Fuck you even see some hints of it in 2 when he is remembering his past. Fuck in 4 rose said Raiden became an alcoholic after 2 and had constant night terrors.
It's really not Snake or Raiden's fault on what happened to him. Raiden just happened to be the unluckiest guy on earth.
Charles Sanders
Chronologically you should play them like this. >Take your dad's Dickinson out of your mouth >Play them in a heterosexual order (release order). >Kill yourself
Jaxon Fisher
MGR is a low-tier Platinum game, this is a fact
David Ramirez
Still pissed there was no unlockable skull suit. I'd have paid money to get that
Also seems odd rocket launchers are fine but no SOCOM handgun
Adam Barnes
>I've actually played through the game on "Normal" -- there is very little reason to do anything but to press X/square conitnually
also did you just tried to present "beating" 5 hour game ONCE as an achievements of sorts?
Connor Bennett
me on the left
Henry Gutierrez
I'm not saying it was Snake's fault, just that it was fallacious for him to think Raiden could go on to lead a peaceful life any more easily than he could.
Matthew Stewart
>cut off a hostage's clothes >Courtney actually gets so disgusted with Raiden she doesn't let you save the game
This was the kind of shit missing from Phantom Pain.
Joseph Rodriguez
unlocking vh and rv from the start requires you to imput the fucking konami code in the title screen, its pretty clear that they are not intended for a first time playthrough and werent balanced around it. Even though i agree with you about how retarded the whole weapon upgrade system was. The game had plenty of flaws.
Parker Richardson
To be fair Snake did live a peaceful life until MGS when they pulled him out of retirement. He probably thought Raiden could do the same
Kayden Robinson
>>being this pissy about the camera and lock-on This mechanics matter a whole lot because if they work -- they allow competent player a complete control over a battlefield rewarding skills and reflexes
And more importantly -- other Platinum DON'T have such goofs in such a basic areas
Jeremiah Collins
I'm implying that you haven't played through it, because if you did you would realise your criticisms are invalid
Jose Rodriguez
...
Ethan Martinez
I am a MGS fan, and I like MGR a lot. It just doesn't play like the MGS games.
you play the MGS games in the release order. Starting at least with MGS1 ( ps1). Get the MGS Legacy Collection for PS3.
Caleb Anderson
I'm a Metal Gear fan who's gay for Raiden and I feel they did fine by the character. Even his cheesy ripper persona is perfect since it's clearly based on the kind of schlock war movies Solidus used for Raiden's image training when he was a child soldier.
Elijah Adams
>unlocking vh and rv from the start requires you to imput the fucking konami code in the title screen, its pretty clear that they are not intended for a first time playthrough In Bayonetta, DMC1, NG, W101 the hardest modes (NSIC, DMD, MN and 101% Hard respectively) are also not available from the start and there aren't even cheatcodes to unlock them
YET
These games WERE balanced around playing them from scratch on the hardest difficulty mode and in fact -- are better for it.
Charles Reyes
How about just playing the games with Raiden in them?
Start with 2 and then play 4, that'll get you right up to speed with Raiden. If you are then interested in this Solid Snake character play MGS1 and MG1 and 2. If you then find Big Boss interesting and want to know more move on to MGS3, PW and TPP.
Ryder Peterson
Also Snake spent most of 2 and 4 hammering in the idea that people have an obligation to ensure the next generation isn't fucked over as bad or worse than yours was
Adrian Davis
>recommending TPP and MGR unironically
Jaxon Garcia
you never had such problems because you only played it once and on a gimped "Normal" difficulty
you enjoyed "RULES OF NATURE" but never really tried to poke the game's combat past one playthrough
You don't even understand fundamental importance of properly working lock-on in an action game.
you don't have enough experience playing more competently made action games (not even necessarily made by Platinum even) to understand what i mean so you're gonna dismiss terms you don't by "hurr durr i played it once u wron"
Logan Cooper
As someone who played the game chronologically, I can honestly say: Don't fucking do it.
Brody Bennett
It wasn't even that peacfully, he was an alaskan hermit struggling with the ptsd he'd had since Metal Gear 1
Jacob Gutierrez
If you really wanna pinpoint where it all went worse, Snake not rescuing Sunny ASAP in favor of hunting down Liquid, leaving Raiden feeling obligated to keep the promise to Olga
Zachary Parker
Cant really speak for ng and w101 but yeah dmc1 and bayo were both better designed games overall, mgr is full of weird design choices that doesnt really make sense for a modern action game, you cant even switch weapons for fuck sake even though the dagger thingy has only one fucking move. If they are ever going to make another mgr i hope they atleast remove the damage upgrades from the game.
Ayden Martin
MGS2 was best game.
Wyatt Bennett
>if this is the worst one i can only imagine how godlike the other games must be. The main games play very differently. Rising's only bad in that it's a disappointing Metal Gear game.
Henry Hughes
>you cant even switch weapons for fuck sake even though the dagger thingy has only one fucking move I think this was a problem with the engine.
Justin Sanchez
Well they chose a really shitty engine for an action game then. Or they could have added more depth to "secondary" weapons, its not like the game was drenched in content anyway
Gavin Howard
Not OP, but I had played all the MG games that'd come out by the time MGR came out, and it was a great, positive surprise, that even felt very MGS-ish. I spent a lot of time in the Codec, just like in the main games.
Isaac Perry
>play a series chronologically even though the story itself disregards it completely
Dylan Taylor
Yeah, the only one worth a damn was the polearm. Though spamming the scissors's aerial charge move shreds Exelsius
Jace Fisher
The game runs smooth in 60fps on a toaster, give them some proper respect.
Jack Wilson
>that even felt very MGS-ish It felt more like a Metal Gear fanfiction by Platinum, only it missed what made MG games fun to play. I didn't find the codec calls very interesting, the Russian, Doktor and Bladewolf were decent at best. I don't even remember the names of the other 2.
