Are you getting a true 240Hz gaming monitor when it arrives?
I play on a 144Hz panel and an overclocked CRT at 200Hz is even better but I fear it'll destroy my desk.

What's the diminishing returns like on these high refresh rate monitors? I've heard the jump from 60 is huge but past 120 it's harder and harder to tell the difference.
This is my opinion but:
60 -> 75: Noticeable but not a massive difference
60 -> 120: Very noticeable and much less motion blur, even navigating the OS feels much more fluid
120 -> 144: I can't tell the difference
144 -> 200(CRT): The CRT feels just as smooth but with less motion blur
It's a TN so no. My next monitor will be IPS 165hz. There'll probably be a 240hz IPS soon though, hopefully with g sync and low motion blur
>IPS 165hz
Too bad the quality control is fucking shit.
Honestly, unless you've got a monster rig capable of driving the framrates high enough to take advantage of them, it's a waste of money.
I've got a 120hz Benq panel and only very well optimized games let me max it out, and that is with two 970's in SLI
Yeah, monitor lottery
There's a noticeable difference between 120 and 144 but it only really matters if you're very autistic about mouse tracking and snapping your crosshair as accurately as possible.
recently went through two 144hz asus bullshit monitors, quality control is fucking GARBAGE. I grabbed one of the goofy looking acer predator 144hz 1440p monitors and so far its good, minimal backlight bleed, no dead pixels, none of the problems the asus shit had.
Is this a good 144hz-screen? If not, got any other recommendations?
VG248QE
XL2411Z
I own both, I prefer XL2411Z.
BenQ is the best option
>recently went through two 144hz asus bullshit monitors, quality control is fucking GARBAGE
IPS or TN?
Their IPS models are really shitty.
IPS
Acer makes the shittiest most unreliable products.
Still better than ASUS.
I have pic related.
There is some backlight bleeding but I have a high tolerance to it apparently.
I barely notice it and it sure as hell isn't anything to return over. Maybe I got lucky it wasn't worse.
I have one, the PG279Q, yeah the quality control is pretty bad. Mine has some backlight bleed on the right bottom side, I could return it and try to get a new one, but it's really not noticeable unless the monitor is nearly black.
For the $800 it really should not be acceptable, but I don't want to be without it for a few weeks just to get another that may not even be better.
kek
Really? Is the XL2411Z any good?
You got lucky. Both the Asus and Acer 1440p 144hz IPS monitors suffer huge quality control issues. Neither Asus or Acer actually makes IPS panels, they're both buying the same panel from someone else and putting in their monitor and they don't bother seeing if the panel is good or not.
Yeah, it's the best choice you can get within the ~$250 budget. It's also less fatiguing on the eyes compared to the Asus which is the most popular 144Hz monitor.
>24.5 inches
>1080p
I'll stick to my Swift PG278Q @ 1440p/144/27 that I've had since release. Still the best gaming monitor until a new panel arrives.
You know, I don't mind spending $1000 for a 144Hz IPS panel that is factory inspected for quality control standards. But no such thing exists.
Hence why I stuck with the S2716DG 144Hz 1440P TN panel.
Great, probably gonna go with that then. I live in Europe, so a brand new will set me back around 300€ in total. Hope it will be worth it.
I want to get a 144hz monitor, but I'm worried that games will start to look like shit if I can't run them over 100hz
I have one, it's fine but nothing special
I would have gone with a BenQ or Asus if I had more money.
Nixeus makes good shit too
That's expensive, I hope you play competitive FPS at a high skill level to justify the cost.
You can run the panel at 60Hz, if you got G-SYNC or Freesnyc the refresh rate matches the in-game FPS.
Let's settle it Sup Forums.
strawpoll.me
Why are all ASUS monitors so good?
That's a stupid poll.
Yeah, but won't I eventually get used to high framerates? For example, 30 fps looks like shit to me because I'm used to a locked 60.
Refresh rate is the most important till you get to 120Hz or more, after that it honestly does not matter much, I wouldn't go crazy for a 200Hz monitor.
Poorfag here, not if they're still 1000 shekels a pop.
Diminishing returns. 30 to 60 is a HUGE jump, 60 to 144 is a big jump but not HUGE like 30 to 60.
Just set your panel to 60Hz and play your competitive shooters like Overwatch and CS:GO at 144Hz, that's what most people with 144Hz panels do.
It's not jarring until you get used to 100hz or more on everything. If I play a console game I need a good ten minuted to adjust to it's all around shittyness.
I found out yesterday my 3 year old computer is still running VGA. Where the fuck have I been and what the fuck have I been doing? Can't wait to upgrade all this shit later this year.
Lmao no
I just play Quake and CS a lot. I once played CS:GO and BF4 on my cousins old 120hz-monitor, it looked so damn butter-smooth that i just wanted one straight away, but apparently all the big companies have gone for 144hz instead of 120hz
Alright, thanks anons. I'll probably save up for a new monitor then
Funny, I play console shit like bloodborne at ~25fps and then play Overwatch at 300fps 144Hz 1 minute after. Console use clever tricks to make sub-30 fps playable.
Yeah I used to have a 120Hz 1080p monitor, no one makes them anymore, everything is 144hz now. Later this year you'll probably see some 120Hz 4K monitors coming out, as the new displayport standard that just got released actually supports that refresh rate at that resolution as its maximum and people want high refresh 4k monitors which were previously impossible because old displayport could only do 4k/60Hz.
Is there any reason why you don't like 144hz? You can switch to 120hz if you really want to.
Not him but 120 is divisible by 24, 30 and 60.
So video formats look better on it.
If you do that on a fixed refresh rate monitor you're going to get judder because the frame rate doesn't divide evenly into the refresh rate.
No no, i just meant that when i tried to look into these high-refresh rate-display i found it odd that companies completely stopped the production of 120hz-monitors.
As long as you double it the jump is noticeqble up to like 2000 fps
I believe the reason for that is that GPUs didn't have displayport, only HDMI and dual link DVI. Dual link DVI was the higher bandwidth one but topped out at 120Hz for 1080p. Monitor hardware could support higher but they were bottlenecked by DVI, when GPUs started getting displayport everyone switched to that because they could push a higher refresh rate.
No, I don't waste $500 on retarded GPUs with 10GB Video RAM, therefore I don't have the need to waste yet more money on meme monitors like 144(+)Hz and 4k.
V-RAM is a worse meme than console gaming.
>monitors are a meme
>VRAM is a meme
>everything is a meme
I wish people like you would die.
If you're serious about a badass monitor, you want to get an eizo. They primarily make medical equipment, but now also make 'gaming' monitors. You should ignore the gaming buzzwords, and look at the tech, then realize they offer a 5 to 10 year warranty on everything.
I'd go for a 1440p/144hz-screen, but honestly i don't believe that my GTX 970 would be fully capable for it.
After using a 120hz monitor in windows, let alone playing games, it's very hard to go back to TVs and 60hz monitors.
You know what else is a meme?
Pretending that people use the word 'meme' incorrectly. That's also a pretty hip new meme on Sup Forums. Usually taking shape as "everything is a meme" being said sarcastically.
The two things he specifically listed are hardware, not elements of culture.
However "VRAM is a meme" is a meme
>not 16:10
>not the IPS type that actually looks good
I'm sticking with my U2410 until manufacturers get the hint
I would agree with this 100%, although I have never used a 200hz monitor, only 144hz.
I'm waiting for ASUS' 35" 21:9 1440p IPS w/ gsync to get a 144hz model. 100hz (at best) is a little lame for a 2 grand monitor.
get a monitor with frame syncing (freesync/gsync).
