Selke master race
Wish there was a sequal on the Wii U.
One of the most painful experiences in my life. I recently started up an old computer I had that had a bunch of wallpaper and character art from that game. I loves the sound track, the world, the graphics, hell even the gameplay. I know it's all a lie though. If I ever go back and play it all I feel is despair over how tedious the world map is and how repetitive the levels are. I loved it before and after I played it but during I could not stand it.
I remember buying it back in the day thinking it would be like the other Final Fantasy games.
What a let down, i tried playing it anyway but it's genuine shit
One of my favorite GC games. Wish they'd remaster it for current gen systems and just have fucking small onscreen menus so 4 players can play locally without GBAs and link cables
I dont have a CC related picture, so have some bird instead
The environments and music were beautiful for a gc game. The battle mechanics were okay, but defending was totally useless unless you were a yuke. The item management was garbage.
I found my copy a year ago and convinced my roommates to dig out their GBAs. We bought the cables and played the whole game with 3-4 characters. It was a blast if not a bit tedious. Wish they would have remastered it on Wii u and let us play with our 3ds connected. That final level and bosses were hard af
It has a great soundtrack.
Also, Yuke master race represent.
Really want a sequel. Also not only was it a comfy game but very charming. Like luigis mansion and several other games around that time period. That's not to say it doesn't have design flaws though.
Wish more games today tried to charm my pants off.
Fuck that, I wish we had a mainline game based around the CC world. CC's world seem so fun.
Chalice Radius was a bullshit mechanic.
Top tier character design, music and lore and atmosphere. Sort of repetitive gameplay that only got really good if you had three other people playing with you that required three GBAs. Would really REALLY benefit from a modern remake or remaster with online play. Or a new a game with the same races and core mechanics. The "sequels" didn't really have anything to do with the original.
One of the greatest, most underrated soundtracks in vidya history.
Game itself was quite alright. The multiplayer of course ascended it to God tier. My friend and I beat it back when we were young, then he came over like 10 years later and we dug out all the old gear and beat it all over again.
>4swords was better
>fantastic soundtrack
>played with 3 siblings
>two of us were dedicated magic users so every boss battle was a damn fireworks display of nearly every tier 3 magic
>mfw the magicite in the very last boss battle
You pikey loving bastard!
Yukes or gtfo.
Does the multiplayer work with one Gamecube controller and the rest GBA's? Or does P1 also have to use a GBA? I've never done the GBA/GC multiplayer thing.
WHO /YUKE/ HERE?
All players need gbas otherwise p1's item menu would interrupt the whole game if it were allowed.
We always fought over who had to carry the stupid bucket.
mah niggas? REMASTER FUCKING WHEN?
I broke with my girlfrined up aregued because BUCKET WEWEWEWEWE
...
Would the multiplayer be worth paying $18 for a second GBA, then? My wife loved this game years back and wants to play it again but even she says it probably wasn't the best game single player. We've been wanting more couch co-op games, anyhow.
Fucking Yuke scum. SELKE FOREVER.
bird-possessed armor-mage-niggers detected
Awesome sequels fucking sucked EVERY LAST ONE
I would say yes, especially if you already have two gba link cables. May be a bit difficult with only two people, though.
I always wished this got a sequel, or even a remake, for WiiU, the built in 3DS connectivity plus allowing player 1 to use the gamepad just seems so damned obvious.
Echoes of Time was okay.
She apparently solo'd the entire thing so I'm sure it's easier than that. lmao
I can't imagine figuring out how to get the ? element without a guide.
>wii u has endless possibilities to make it's shirtt gimmick good
>they do none of them
Tabletop games, Crystal Chronicles, games that use the Crystal Chronicles style of control but with different gameplay. BUT NO. LETS MAKE FUCKING TOYS. I hope nintendo dies soon for being so fucking dense.
What's wrong with the sequels? (I've never played any CC game.)
It's average but becomes 10/10 with friends.
I've only done it once, but we finished the whole fucking game, 4Player mode.
Here. My favorite non big titted character. One of my favorite FF races. They're like something out of Dr Seuss but in a FF world
>bird
b-but they're covered in hair not feathers
>nips in charge of good business decisions and giving fans what they want
they had literally nothing to do with the first one other than they had crystals in them and the gameplay was completely different. It was like an action game with shooting
One of my favorite spin off series in general. Original was really fun with my siblings and relatives. It was an ok solo experience but not as good as playing with 3 other people. Half of the time we'd sabotage each other and try to get them in the miasma, other times we'd be a pretty good team.
Echoes of Time was fun too, but it didn't feel as fun as the original, despite having deeper mechanics and no bullshit multiplayer.
best game for co-op with a friend
then i lost all my friends
now i play tedious grinding based single played games
Incredible game that's fun as fuck, but incredibly hard to set up and play with 4 people properly. I mean fuck.
Comfiest soundtrack of all time. I don't remember anything about the gameplay but I still listen to the music now and then
Is there any feasible way to emulate this with multiplayer currently?
I just finished the Crystal Bearers on Wii. Tried to make a thread earlier but it died with no replies.
Loved it. Belle best girl.
god this game was so fucking weird
I don't get why they couldn't have just made more of the original or given it the FF12 treatment
Game was awful but MC was based as fuck.
literally this
if square was smart they'd do the exact same thing in the future even if it's not the same setting or premise or anything but they won't
It definitely felt extremely experimental. Like I want to call it bad but it was a little too interesting for me.
The MC was fucking amazing though. The game came out at the perfect time when most RPG MCs were getting to either be too whacky or too beta or too emo.
He's just right, laid back, and carefree. The perfect amount of everything to feel legit 'cool'.
Female Selkies were the best waifus
I liked the music. The story. And it appealed to my OCD to hunt one of every item. Then I farmed gil from the turtle to buy all the materials and made 3 of every accessory. Combat was fun as fuck too.
Crystal Bearers was the game that taught me not to pre-order things
It had Crystal Chronicles in the name, so I thought it would be like FF:CC
I played it for a little over an hour then never touched it again
>Gee, this game was a really good concept that got overwhelmingly positive feedback and decent sales. The only issue was a prohibitively expensive multiplayer (inb4 suburbanites)
>I got an idea! Let's NEVER make a proper fucking sequel to this game.
Why?
Aw. You missed out. Its just set in the same world, different timeline.
see
Huh? Did it sell well? I always thought it was niche as fuck.
If it sold decently that just makes me mad. I was always content (and horribly sad of course) that we didn't get a sequel because I thought it just sold like ass so it simply wasn't a smart decision to make a sequel.
So CC was supposed to be a very distant sequel/prequel to or just set in the same world as FF9, right?
So much this. The trailers made this game look so fucking good. Never had I seen a game where 40-60% of the gameplay was pointless. The only good thing that came out of it was MC going all Shadow the Hedgehog in the final fight.
What mechanics or features did you like in CC or would have liked expanded on?
What did you not like and why?
I'm considering making a CC inspired co-op dungeon crawl type game.
I use the soundtrack to fall asleep. It makes me dream away to a different world that's not as shitty.
Alright, guys. How would this game work with co-op on Dolphin 5.0? Not at all, or only via netplay?
It wasn't a block buster, but it wasn't exactly a flop either. It didn't garner much attention because, really, the Gamecube was probably the weakest console in that generation. 350k worldwide by 2003.
Niether. Crystal Chronicles are their own universe from what I can remember.
the ties to 9 are pretty prominent but it might just be an AU on its setting or something. Or it started out that way but eventually became it's own thing.
>350k worldwide by 2003.
Pardon me. 350k in Japan. It was much more popular in America, however, where it sold over 700k.
It broke over a million worldwide.
Onion Midget master race
How the fuck has Square Enix not been able to make a good sequel for this game. Shit man they could've even made a 3DS or Wii U version as well.
fucking comfy as all hell
MAGIC SUCKS
1. None of them were any good in their own regard
2. None of them played/captured anything like the original game
Loved this game, had it's flaws but the setting, world, and the music pulled me in.
This needs a HD remaster with online play.
Eh, might as well say it. I sniff my little sister's used panties daily. There.
Also, the worst part of current Sup Forums is the fact that you faggots simply refuse to understand that there was no golden age. It was always shit and always good. It's just as cancerous now, though I'd say the good sides are way better. The vidya discussion threads are actually talking about things related to video games, instead of just circlejerking over some popular shit, like what you'd see on r/games.
...
I'm not even going to delete it. Fuck it.
I want a sequel on 3DS and I want it to be directed by the mad man Kawazu himself.
All this game needed was an easier way to play it.
Also, they need to nerf Cure. That spell is so OP, you basically never die as long as one person has it and isn't a dumbass.
The only reason I can think of that it never got a real sequel was because it sort of had a slight focus on racism. The different races straight up hated each other
That story and setting are actually pretty good, but basing the gameplay off a shitty physics gimmick didn't work and it failed for the same reason the last mana game did.
It would have been fine with a more standard gameplay style. Like just an action rpg or something with the wiimote used for spells/tools unlocked throughout the game in a zelda/okami fashion
my fucking sides
try it, VBA-M linkup exists now, and might even support 4 players at once.
I fucking love the atmosphere of this game that whimsical yet slightly melancholic feel was just amazing.
>that music
>those pre level narrations
>the letters your family sends you
It just all came together so fucking well.
youtube.com
Layle was a cool guy, maybe they will bring him back one day...
>The different races straight up hated each other
Yes please lie to me more. Maybe in the lore's ancient history this could be fact but in the game itself they did not, it was simply that the races are separated for the most part except for the home town which population is dependent on the races of the player characters.
I fucking hated the bucket
having some sort of Home Village was comfy as fuck though, and the best part of the game.
this, it was just a really excellent achievement in world-building. It helped you forgive the somewhat lacking gameplay.
Comfiest game on the Gamecube, used to play it into the early morning as a kid on friday and saturday nights. Recently replayed it and it still felt pretty atmospheric. Magic is overpowered in this game, there is no point in going strength unless you wanna die to the harder bosses and their mobs while you're desperately trying to cast cure with your shit casting time, yukes all the way.
Cure is too OP.
Really just play all of the SaGa games and add more of that, Kawazu made those too and they're just as cool/weird/frustrating.
best song here youtube.com
fuckin fun multiplayer
>tfw it casting haste with 2 friends made the game go 60fps for me for some reason
You perfectly described the feeling of the game. Setting out of the town was such a magical and happy feeling.
Then you find Tilda.
That music brought me back. It was so damn good it stood out so much from the mediocre combat and gameplay. I ended up loving this game for the setting and not the gameplay.
youtube.com
Here's the question though;
How do we improve the gameplay/combat of crystal chronicles without making it too over-complicated for what it sets out to be?
The letters thing was such a good idea but terribly underutilized. The best part about it was the relationship building which was really simple but substantially different depending on which race you picked.
>slightly melancholic
>slightly
It was oppressive with how sad it was dude. Everywhere you went there was some story about how everyone died horribly, and then there's the actual characters you come across. Hell the black knight story ends with patricide, and the kid is like 10 years old.
I loved the game's story, world, and characters and the adventure was fun but the base gameplay was pretty garbage. Layle is such a beast in the cut-scenes, using giant machine guns and hand-to-hand combat, but the only means the game gives you to engage enemies is tossing them around. Frustrated me a lot. Felt like wasted potential when the game could have made waves if it had better combat. The world, attention to detail, and plot were definitely up to snuff.
>tfw everyone you know who played it with you either lost interest or hated it with a passion
There are no good people on the West Coast. Just weed-smoking cawwadoodie motherfuckers.
I think he's going to be in World of Final Fantasy. Wish I could find the roster and check.
That's what I like about the game, is that it really highlights that, through all the sorrow of the world, you are forever filled with the energy of a silver lining, either by the underlying adventurous tone of the music, or by the glistening crystals which guard the larger towns you visit, or by the seemingly eternal optimism of the main characters that you will succeed in keeping your hometown alive for another year.
So far the only Crystal Chronicles things in WoFF are Sherlotta and the Undead Princess.
I used to love playing this with friends years ago. Are there any other games like it?
Crystal Chronicles was one of those games I wanted to play for so damn long, but I never had the game, or enough GBAs and link cables. I eventually got one GC-GBA cable, but it was only used for Wind Waker and WarioWare.
I have a friend who I know would like the game, but setting it up with Dolphin seems like a fucking chore. It always boggled my mind why Nintendo didn't re-release it on the Virtual Console for the Wii or something. You can connect your DS to that thing, right? Hell, you can use the 3DS for Smash 4 and it works very similar to how the GBA did with the GC. Why not just re-release the fucking games on a VC? It'd save us all so much fucking money and effort.
I wish. I don't want him to be forgotten.
its the same for me and im on the east coast
>used to have 3 friends who all played as different tribes
>i played yuke
>then it was just me, the clavat, and the selkie
>then it was just me and the clavat
>then it was just me
Same thing happened with phantasy star online
