Turns out the core gameplay was actually really hard to fuck up so it's still there. The community is full of retards and cosmetics are just ridiculous, though.

It's still the same game. Just lots of spastics and funny looking cosmetics. My experience in pubs has generally been that the team with few snipers and spies wins, unless they're in that 10% of spies/snipers who are so good that they dominate the whole game and make things no fun for everyone. Also lots of cheating snipers despite the VAC crackdown.

At it's core, the game is still the same as it was years ago. It's just that the cosmetics went crazy and the playerbase has shifted.

The amount of spies and snipers that hack is incredible.

Other than that, it's still okay.

Some of the hats recently added are bothering me. Now I'm not usually the one to complain about hats, because honestly I'm a big hat-whore myself. But shit like that cardboard pirate beard and banana head are inexcusable. Also pink and lime paint should become retired.

Absolutely, the game is pretty damn diverse now.
Public games are still really fun and honestly one of the few fps games that doesn't make you upset or angry too much.

Tf2 imo is a much more relaxed and fun environment compared to overwatch. Overwatch you are always versing pre-made teams and basically are forced to play at your best and 'try hard' which is more stressing than fun.

tl;dr Tf2 pub games are just a random crazy fun fest honestly...Until aimbotters started to show up occasionally more recently within the last 2 years

If you can't afford to buy Overwatch, it's the next best thing. Basically the same game but much more relaxed with a 60's spy theme replacing the sci-fi stuff.

It's free, it won't hurt you to try it yourself. Ignore all the people saying the game is dead, is pretty much alive and kicking.

It's not just the hats but the weapon diarrhoea that ruined it for me.

All they needed was the medic update and the airpuff for the pyro (but none of his weapons). Everything else was unnecessary bullshit.

There are some serious issues with class balance and weapon balance, performance can be very poor for a 2007 game depending on your computer (TF2 is CPU-intensive), and some of the cosmetics they've added are very gross, but that's really all the problems I have to list.

Overall, yes, it is still good, and another update is coming soon packing official competitive with it.

TF2 is a game with a high skill ceiling, huge amounts of content on offer, and something for everybody.

I don't know what you're talking about, there are hundreds of populated Valve servers all the time, even here in Australia there is a minimum of two fully populated servers (24 man) running at any one time, no matter how late it is at night.

It's the third most played game on Steam, of course it's alive.
