Yes

No

Maybe

no

I don't know.

It's not though.

Absolutely not

JULY 29th, not June 29th. You have a month, bro.

As far as whether or not the upgrade is worth it: If you built or purchased your PC in the last four years, I would say yes. Otherwise, the driver compatibility hassles make it not worth it.

Use OO ShutUp 10 and Spybot Antibeacon.

Don't worry, it'll automatically do it for you next time you restart :^)

>mfw

suck a dick Microsoft

Can you repeat the question

I don't know

Yes. It's better in almost every way.

What do you mean "last day"? I'm sure they'll still be selling W10 later.

Especially the spyware :-)

Backup your HDD
Upgrade to 10
Copy down product key
Restore backup
Decide later

here
If any of you do not absolutely want Windows 10 and want the upgrade prompts disabled with any and all downloaded upgrade files removed, you can use Gibson's Never10. It is a program that runs once (not continuously) and sets an edit in your computer that Microsoft made for corporations to block the Windows 10 upgrade from occurring on non-Enterprise editions of Windows.
grc.com/never10.htm

That being said, I still think it's worthwhile if your computer is four or fewer years old. If it's older then that you should DEFINITELY block the Windows 10 upgrade, as Microsoft is allowing computers with incomplete ("basic") driver support to be upgraded to Windows 10 so they can claim more devices were upgraded to tout the success of the "one windows" platform that Windows Phone, Windows 10, Xbone use.

He's talking about the free upgrade of retail/OEM installed copies of Windows 7 & 8.1 via the GWX update.

This isn't a bad approach if you aren't sure, as the activation of Windows 10 goes against your motherboard and is permanent against that motherboard. If you decide you want 10 on that computer later, you can just reinstall clean without putting in a product key and Windows 10 will automatically activate as your digital entitlement is already stored on Microsoft servers.

>upgrade

>He's talking about the free upgrade of retail/OEM installed copies of Windows 7 & 8.1 via the GWX update.

People BOUGHT W7/8?

Anyway, this seems like a strategy to encourage impulse upgrades, so I'd be suspicious of it.

Fuck.
No.

>W10
>upgrade
pick one.

It's possible to disable essentially all the features that have privacy concerns. I would note that shit that people had no issue over (e.g. the network connection pinging a microsoft server on IP changes to see if the computer was truly online, on a local network but not online, or offline, or if the user was on a wifi portal they needed to visit a logon page for) in 7/8/8.1 people flipped SHIT over and said HOLY SHIT LOOK AT ALL THE CONNECTIONS TO MICROSOFT IPS.

The defaults are boneheaded for privacy but utilities make it easy to flip all the switches to off.

Bigger objection for me is not being able to defer updates on the home edition, which I think is stupid.

no, it is a very unpleasant os to deal with

The ironic thing is that if you're so stupid that you can't control your computer, then windows 10 is probably the best for someone like you anyway.

Literally 2% of this made it into the full release. Update the image, retard.

>People BOUGHT W7/8?
yup. Bought legit W7 Ultimate discs when building my PC back in 2011, and I'm fucking happy I did, seeing how MS is literally shooting itself to the leg while forcing their ten-millimeter dick down everyone's throat.

Went through all my updates with a fine comb and then disabled all automatic Windows updates a few months ago, and I've not looked back. W7 remains on my computers as long as physically possible, and then starts Linux dualbooting.

>installing Windows 10 is giving up your liberties
wow. Go outside man, it can't be healthy to have your entire life revolve around your computer.

>People BOUGHT W7/8?
Any prebuilt laptop or desktop you get comes with a windows license.
Some people buy OEM or retail keys.
A lot of people took advantage to get cheap (Win741 $30 Windows 7 offer or Win8 upgrade offer for new PCs, $15 keys) or free (laundering Windows 8 Pro keys from fake to legitimate via free Windows Media center keys).

Also, Microsoft essentially can't tell the difference between a prebuilt PC running Windows 7 and Windows 7 activated by OEM Activation 2.0 (loaders like DAZ), so any PC activated that way looks legitimate.

They need to get the numbers up of Win10 upgrades to try to get people on the Windows store and convince people to buy shit through it. That's the gambit.

Do it
You can always downgrade later

_no

Can you repeat the question?

>yfw this was all redacted so there no need to worry about spying on you
>yfw they do it regardless of which version of windows or iOS you have

Why does Microsoft want me to upgrade to 10 so badly?

>disabled updates
jesus christ, if the win10 update triggers you that much, just use never10 or something
grc.com/never10.htm

or even just disable updating to new versions of windows via winupdate through the group policy setting

I bought a new legit disc copy of 7 Pro SP1 off amazon for $60 last week

through various circumstances, I ended up doing a fresh install of 10 and 7 on two different computers within a couple days of one another

>7
-needed to plan ahead and put some basic drivers on a cd (usb, ethernet), or just have the motherboard's driver disc handy
-apart from that, was an absolute delight to install. complete breeze
-result is a crisp, clean OS that was a snap to customize to my preferences

>10
-had basic drivers built-in
-installation was fine
-after installation was a fucking two-hour slog through garbage trying to remove all of the ways it's fucking forcing itself in your face saying "HEY! YOU'RE USING WINDOWS 10! DID YOU KNOW!?!?"
-after all that, it's STILL not the way I want, with zero control of the start menu, near-zero control over the appearance of any ui features, and at least two dozen built-in bloatware "apps" that absolutely cannot be removed

>Microsoft is watching you and stealing your privacy.
>Don't download w10!

People actually believe this.

3

tl;dr Microsoft said they wanted ONE BILLION devices upgraded to Windows 10. This claim is because they wanted the Universal Windows Platform (Windows 10/Windows Phone/Xbone) commonality to enjoy cross platform sales of apps, games, etc. and more popularity on the other two platforms for integration.

By all accounts they're well short of that with the one year ending, so they're trying to push it as hard as possible so some Senior division head at Microsoft doesn't get fired for falling substantially short of the goal.

Just use Linux. PC gaming fucking sucks.

>give up liberty to obtain security deserve neither
I hate this fedora ass quote.

No, everyone else EXCEPT you already KNOW this.

using an ancient headgear as an insult won't make the statement false. Enjoy your Skynet.

>unironically caring what OS anons use enough to defend w10
>for no compensation

Is there a way I can download the things needed for the W10 upgrade and keep it on my computer until I choose to use it?

Woah

>Ben Franklin is now considered fedora
I don't know how to feel about this world anymore. It's fucked.

let it do it itself and sue them for a quick 10k.

>[citation needed]

Not an argument.

LATEST Nvidia drivers are broken on Windows 10 and causes display crashes. Emulators run better on Windows 7 than Windows 10 for me. If you do the upgrade, certain programs (Deus Ex) may break for reasons unknown.

Stick to Windows 7 until you absolutely have to switch.

What GPU are you using senpai? For AMD, anything below the HD 5000 series is not supported on Windows 10 except from a basic driver from Microsoft that's fucking worthless. Nvidia's driver support goes further back.

Even though you were wrong on the date, I thank you OP. I completely forgot about this and tonight my PC will be upgraded.

Neither is a baseless statement with random numbers pulled out of your own ass.

>Ironically caring enough to comment on my post.

its another ''scientist talk shits about politics'' episode

thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-media-creation-tool-create-installation-media-upgrade
If you create a DVD or USB and then use what you created to launch the upgrade WITHIN YOUR EXISTING COPY OF WINDOWS before July 29th, then you can get the upgrade and execute it whenever you want.

If you do the upgrade after July 29th it will upgrade and then tell you that you don't have a license and need to do a Windows 10 key.

Once a particular computer is licensed on Windows 10, that motherboard is permanently activated for Win10, even if you reinstall clean.

Its a good thing that microsoft will never catch you then user, God speed.

GTX 970 on my desktop.

The issue also happened on my 860m laptop.

Reverting to 362.00 on the desktop fixed it but the laptop kept crashing regardless if I did a clean reinstall with DDU.

So your image?

im having more fps in games on win10 than on win8, but its slower to start the computer, and after i start it i have to wait for like 10 seconds or things just dont work, this didn't happened in win8.

>now do the stanky leg

Naturally. Why wouldn't I be curious about what you get out of defending an OS? I mean unless it affects you directly (it shouldn't) there's no reason to defend it. It's just an OS.

If an argument is presented without evidence, then the argument can be dismissed without evidence.

Go be retarded somewhere else.

Obligatory youtu.be/OMKnMvwc3qs

No.

Now get out, Pajeet.

okay so it's better to do it like user says here ?

Do you mean the original Deus Ex from steam, or Human Revolution?

What happens when the game is launched - black screen, white screen, stuttering, crash? Does the display driver explicitly crash?

Post the one where the poo in loo microshitter actually started posting selfies on Sup Forums

Yeah, that's a good way to do it. Windows 10 upgrade normally preserves your old install with a "revert to older windows" option in the control panel for a month after you do the upgrade, but it never hurts to have a good quality backup.

This one?

the update will probably be available forever.

microsoft makes money by collecting data from you with it. they're just trying to scare you into upgrading sooner so they can start the data mining sooner then later.

It's not better than 7/8 and if you're talking about an upgrade I assume you use one of those two. So you shouldn't bother.
There's also the spying stuff but it's not an issue if you're not a US citizen.

Well not really "defending" more of, "wow, people are thinking microsoft watches millions of people while they do private stuff on their PC." I could care less but i still find it amusing.

It's also worth noting that almost all of the telemetry on Windows 10 was backported to 7 & 8.1 as updated that would install automatically by default, so unless you blocked them (or uninstalled them) it's the same shit.

That's hilarious, and pretty recent.it's always Sup Forums that ends up taking the brunt of their shilling.

Human Revolution Director's Cut.

Complete black screen. Game worked fine the day before I upgraded. No idea why. Tried verifying through Steam and that didn't work. Gave up and went back to Windows 7.

Granted it might have been a fluke, but this is why I prefer to reformat for a new OS than upgrade. Microsoft clearly wants people on Windows 10 regardless of compatibility.

Eh, you have to do the upgrade to get the free digital entitlement for licensing on 10, but from that point on you can go Control Panel -> Update & Security -> Recovery -> Reset this PC. You can choose to do this keeping your files and folders but removing your applications, or removing all files and folders. Super easy. Backup recommended before doing it in either case.

You can also clean install from the CD without a product key, or if you're moving a Windows 7 or 8.1 product key (retail) to a new PC, you can install windows 7/8.1 clean without a product key on a new mobo, go to activate windows, put in a 7/8.1 retail key, and it will activate Windows 10, assuming edition of the key and windows you installed are the same (home, pro, etc.)

Since it sounds like you reverted after upgrading through the GWX upgrade or media creation utility, you should be able to install Windows 10 clean from DVD or USB without putting in a product key. Activation would be automatic via digital entitlement of your mobo.

They're also way too obvious.

Why can't I just reserve my copy until I actually want to install it?

WHO THE FUCK STILL BUYS NOKIA

Because microsoft wants to be able to claim a half billion devices on Windows 10 by july. they need a deadline to force people to want to upgrade before that date.

Shills and poorfags, noboody wants a windows phone with a nice camera but zero apps

I appreciate the advice (assuming you aren't a pajeet paid to know all this) but why would I consider going back to Windows 10 when Windows 7 worked just fine?

The new Windows Apps don't appeal to me and Windows 10 would throttle all my other downloads for updates, regardless of my settings. Its a step up from Windows 8, but it doesn't do anything better other than Copy/Paste operations.

To psychologically manipulate you into thinking that you have to jump on this offer ASAP or "risk" losing out?

I am just going to buy a new computer and get W10, because my 4+ year old laptop is getting too shitty to handle new games.

I did it a month ago and don't regret it, but be wary that there are some ... surprises.

>after installation was a fucking two-hour slog through garbage trying to remove all of the ways it's fucking forcing itself in your face saying "HEY! YOU'RE USING WINDOWS 10! DID YOU KNOW!?!?"

wut
just slap classic shell on it, disable cortana, and disable any notifications that bug you

>bought windows 7
that better have been for a business computer, there's zero excuse not to use daz' loader for win7 at this point
it's so good at fooling microsoft that you can literally do the free upgrade to win10 using a win7 you activated with it and microsoft still can't tell the difference, i know because i've gotten legit win10 on two computers this way

>I appreciate the advice (assuming you aren't a pajeet paid to know all this)
I shan't. Just a neighborhood IT guy waiting for some software to install on my sandbox Linux server, pissing some time away here as the install progresses.

>but why would I consider going back to Windows 10 when Windows 7 worked just fine?
Mainly driver compatibility for certain things, certain apps that won't be backported (Xbox), DirectX 12 if you ever choose to upgrade your graphics card, faster booting, and in the case of Windows 7, the upgrade would get you support past early 2020 (when Windows 7 support ends entirely).

>The new Windows Apps don't appeal to me
Okay then, DirectX 12 may appeal later and longer support lifetimes, faster boot, peripheral driver compatibility... There's also a few articles on this:
pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2487499,00.asp

If you don't care about the features in the upgrade, no one is forcing you to, and I recommend Never10 to block it in that case.

>Windows 10 would throttle all my other downloads for updates
What are you referring to here, the Windows update P2P shit? That's a control panel setting. It's also easy to disable some of the stupid privacy defaults with OO Software ShutUp10 and Safer-Networking's Spybot antibeacon. Both are freeware, and the former definitely disables the sharing of Windows updates over the internet.

If the computer is that old, then definitely don't upgrade it. Driver support for a 4+ year old PC on Windows 10 is likely to be suboptimal. MS will let you upgrade, it'll just run like shit.

This is the only reason I refused to upgrade.
Will they show my search history?
My last image view history?
last video history with thumbnail?

Can't you just create a partition and install it there without having to fuck with your old OS and uninstall it later; or has that option been taken away as well?

I swear to god the freetard population of Sup Forums is so fucking stupid, it makes it so hard to talk about anything that isn't linux, stallman or anime without spergs going on about 'BOTNET PAJEET SHILL BOTNET PAJEET SHILL'. And if you shut down their stupid linux ricing threads they start flooding the board with shit until they get it back.

Sup Forums used to be so much better

Web search & web search history is enabled by default and can be disabled.
Search history on-device is on by default and can be disabled.
Thumbnail previews of images that match searches can be disabled via File Explorer, BAT/REG file, or group policy.

Maybe, to be honest I don't know. When I did it the way you had to do it was launch the upgrade from the prior install of windows and it took care of the rest, not asking about partitions at all.

You could potentially upgrade the existing partition and do the rollback to older windows option, then install to a second partition - that should work fine, as the clean install will retrieve the digital entitlement from MS Activation servers.

POO

IN

>windows 10
>gaming

not even once

do you have to pay for online to play stuff like killer instinct multiplayer?

too late it'll take many hours and there is no time left

I've set my "weird shit" folder to hidden and it doesn't pop up in the search anymore

Hmmmmm, that's interesting. I'd be curious to see if anybody has done a revisit on this now that Microsoft and driver developers have had a year to fix their shit after the RTM, or if Win10 is still behind.

>SLI laptop
A more interesting comparison would be a desktop for me, doesn't make the results you posted are invalid.

>blatantly lying
Why?

what about the folder inside the hidden folder?
