Here's how they did it.

The truth is that Denuvo is fully cracked for that specific game (ROTTR), not emulated or worked around.

Denuvo uses a VM to translate x86-x64 instructions to a set of VM instructions (between 2-50 for a single instructions), which makes code unreadable (virtualization obfuscation).

At runtime, the VM instructions are decrypted by an interpreter, think of it as the specific processor needed to run the obfuscated bytecode.

So know that everyone knows the basic of virtualizer (summed up and simplified), here is reloaded's method. Exe sections that are encrypted by Denuvo are "destroyed", the original code is nowhere to be seen, preventing the reverser from modifying the code. Reloaded used tricks to get the interpreter to read the vm instructions for them, then dumped that decrypted code out of memory and replaced "destroyed" sections by the fresh x64 assembly code.

So what if you cracked Denuvo? Piracy is LITERALLY dead. Not gaming piracy, but piracy in general. Nobody pirates in real life anymore except for like maybe 5 niggers off the African coast. TPB is dead. Kickass is dead. The only thing remaining are private trackers (which, in the case of gaming) largely have releases which can be found on public trackers

Probably not all that different, since removing denuvo altogether seems difficult. They'll probably find ways to inject the necessary VM instructions/object code to bypass denuvo.
But, completely removing denuvo should, in theory, increase performance and maybe help out with the memory leaks people talk about.
