"wtf is happening"

It was emphasized so heavily in trailers that there weren't many surprises in it.

It was a very cool premise and setting wasted on being a tutorial.

Felt like a CoD mission, but I was okay with it.

The entire game was fantastic btw. No need to mention "final judgements aside", anyone who didn't like this game is just shitposting for (you)s.

Thought "Holy shit this is intense."

Shame the rest of the game felt like a completely different game.

Made me wish they'd of stuck with a more traditional linear / psuedo-sandbox game instead.

It was far too long. But Fire Man and Pyschic Loli were pretty cool.

>Psycho Mantis
>loli

Bruh.

Quiet should have died then and there.

She shouldn't have gone past the prologue.

So basically, you're asking for Call of Duty: The Phantom Pain?

pretty good but too long, too bad the crack always crashed at the same fucking spot.

>pirating

You did right. I paid full price at day 1. The real phantom pain were the games i traded for it.

The prologue was Metal Gear-tier, the rest of the game was wtf?

I was thinking it was stupid because it was an overly long walking-slowly-simulator with nothing engaging happening. And it was like an hour long.

when it asked me to create a char, I knew something dodgy was going on, and with all the rumors of snake being venom and keither sutherlands voice as ishmeal in the trailers and game, I knew what was going on.
wasnt exactly a great plot twist.

i thought it was fuckin great

I know I know, you've been gone for quite some time, but try not to panic. You were wondering how many people responded to your thread. I'm afraid it's been... 9 new posts.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
NURSACOMA NURSACOMA

>This is amazing, all of this mayhem and fever dream shit. I can't wait to see what kind of satisfying resolution this is all building up to. Kojima is about to take me on the ride of my life. I love you, Metal Gear

at least the online is fun....right?

all the best parts of it were revealed in 2012, its the only part of the game that doesn't have gameplay as its "other half," therefore feels pretty empty the first time through. The second playthrough (I mean full restart) I was able to appreciate it more, but regardless nothing would have compared to being thrown into it with no expectations, I think that would've been the hypest.

It was a good sequence. One of the few times I haven't minded the opening to a game being barely interactive.

It gave me hope for a great game, this lasted up until i got to Africa, then it all turned to shit.

If the whole game had been as good as the prologue and the quarantine sequence, it would have been the GOAT game.

Open world was a mistake.

lol

The majority of it was shown in trailers, so no reaction outside of minor surprise seeing Quiet cause I didn't expect it

I think the idea was to plant the doubt in your mind, but not address it the entire game and treat Venom exactly like Big Boss to create the same kind of lingering uneasiness and distrust Venom would have had during the events of the game.

Which I think works exactly as intended but definitely detracts from the impact of the final reveal, as it feels more like something you knew all along but wished so hard weren't true.

>open world was a mistake

pretty sure you mean quiet was a mistake, don't cover your shit up, memefag

man, you joostfags are the worst.

her pointless death still pisses me off, really melodramatic and ruined one of the last interesting things about the game

why couldn't quiet have been sniper wolf
it would have made so much more sense and fit with her impressions of Saladin
why

Same here. The beginning of the game enthralled me and I was still thrilled throughout all of Afghanistan. It was early into Africa I realized that the mission quality was only going downhill and I wasn't going to get any more bases or areas to explore. What I saw by the 1/3 mark of the game is all I'll get.

I had already seen most of it in trailers and was just eager to get to the meat of the game.

What i liked is how you didn't have crazy ass gadgets in Afghanistan, it just got a bit silly in Africa. I liked the first mission with the oil refinery i thought it was great, then it all went down hill.

The Oil Refinery is one of the few cool areas in Africa. You don't get another one like that until Code Talker near the end of chapter 1.

Everything in-between is lazy villages and convoy ambushes.

Prologue was the best thing about the game. Loved the feel of it.

"Why Raiden is here?"
youtube.com/watch?v=WLYxRkgfyxI

Blame Kojimbo

The prologue? It was some of the best entertainment I've ever experienced. Rest of the game was a bit of a let down though

her death isn't pointless, other than the demon snake retexture which deliberately does absolutely nothing, whether or not you kill quiet is the only story arc related choice Venom gets to make in the entirety of the game, however she's taken from you regardless and ultimately your choice to save her was meaningless, all that comes of it is the time you share between then and her dying.

It emphasizes the lack of control Venom has over his own fate

shut up faggot

man, you joostfags are the worst

He was going to kill her, it emphasizes that she means nothing to him.

i'm not a joostfag

Despite the fact that basically the entire thing is just an on-rails setpiece, it was fun.

then stop posting about her

Honestly, it made me mad at Snake and Ocelot for getting innocent people caught in the crossfire of their stupid spy shit.

Also, I remain astounded at the amount of people that let Quiet live after the shit she pulled.

i'm posting about a fictional character not a person in real life. do you have autism

like what?

A fucking ridiculous amount of plot armor and deus ex machina

Boring as fuck
Literally "Hold forward to continue cutscene"

Genuinely think that it is the best opening to a game ever but the rest of the game pales in comparison. It was so good as well because I got the game a day early.

Online is beyond dead

I thought Venom wasn't supposed to suspect anything. He was the perfect soldier, loyal until the end.

>Genuinely think that it is the best opening to a game ever
that's not the witcher 3

it was a little ridiculous but I enjoyed it and my initial feelings were that it was going to live up to MGS4

No he is asking for a true MGS experience. Linear, story driven and bosses that have character.

Garroting the nurse and doctor to death, assisting in the murder of civilians and of course, trying to murder Venom.

Trying to kill Venom, I would understand people letting that slide because he has plot armor and she's just following orders to kill a rogue agent, but the other things are just fucked.

christ is this ever long

i'll give ur mum the pro log

HAHAHHAHAHHAHA

I like the Witcher series a lot. The books and games are phenomenal. The opening to TW3 is good but MGSV TPP wins it for me. Waited for ages to find out what the conclusion was to my most beloved game series.

It was a videogane with no story, its automatically better than 4.

That's exactly why she means nothing, Venom knew who she was since afghanistan.

man, you joostfags are the absolute worst

Nigga the first hour is the worst part of TW3.

terrible opinion

knowing doesn't interfere with loyalty, the boss was perfectly aware of what America/the philosophers were doing to her, and remained loyal.

Venom = You, the entire point of leading you to suspect it is to demonstrate that he does too.

Slow as fuck, nothing interesting happens.
I dropped the game 4 times in the first hour due to how boring it was. The fifth I forced myself and managed to pull through.
Mediocre tutorial and the first of many "do favors to do favors to do favors to know where Ciri might be" quests, only this time it was for Yen, who eventually appeared out of nowhere.

Loved it, was really hyped up until around Mission 9: Ambush the Convoy.
At that point I realized it was Mercenaries 3: Snake Edition, but without any buildings to blow up.
I felt really bad about it too, like I could tell Kojima really wanted to release a good game but he got that director's curse where the final project gets noticeably worse after a really strong opening.
Hell I even played through HD Collection in the months leading up to it, even did a quick run of Ground Zeroes after TPP finished installing.
And don't even get me started on the Salad Octopus fight.

>this is fucking boring, I keep the stick pushed forward for an hour
>come on Sup Forums later and everyone is masturbating over this level
I was confused

No.

More like MGSV: The Phantom Pain without the large empty world maps, and more like the originals with actual proper narrative and character development.

No, stories in videogames should always be an afterthought.
Go write a book or make a movie otherwise.

you might have ADD, you didn't play the previous games either I'm betting.

Ah yes, ADD, the buzzword for when someone doesnt want to put up with pointless, slowly paced crap. I bet you even try defending Novigrad. And I only played TW2, tried 1 but the gameplay was absolutely horrible.

I assume you don't watch many movies or TV shows

I don't since it's mostly trash.

...

They spoiled 90% of it with the Moby Dick trailer. We should have played as Big Boss during the reprise. Also I had to pause it until morning because I was too stoned.

That being said it's probably the second best intro in the series.

If you are just going to reply with memes and buzzwords whenever I post a different opinion than yours just leave and save yourself some bandwith.

>save some bandwith
what are you implying?

It's the best part of the game, but an incredibly weak tutorial. Some really great detail in the environment, lots of story, dash of surrealism that you find in other MGS titles.

Was rather bored by it. I thought it went on 30 minutes too long.I was just hyped for what happens after the hospital escape happens.

it got me pumped as fuck to play the rest of the game. not many surprises though, seeing as how pretty much the entire thing had already been shown in trailers and gameplay vids.

also when I saw the face creation thing, I got hyped as fuck because I thought maybe the main character was actually going to be a new character like Raiden or something but then when it turned back to Big Boss it was obvious right at that point that they were going to pull some brainwashed doppelganger shit. They should've just let you play as a new character who works for Big Boss without having some epic twist.

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT A FUCKING OPS GAME
GIVE ME A MISSION
GIVE ME A SEQUENCE OF WELL DESIGNED LEVELS AND BOSS ENCOUNTERS
MAKE ME WORK AND EXPLORE FOR MY TOOLS
DON'T GIVE ME OPEN WORLD SHIT
YOU INTRODUCED ALL THE CONTEMPORARY MEME PROBLEMS
MAYBE YOU COULD HAVE ACTUALLY FINISHED IT IF YOU'D MADE AN MGS GAME
REEEEEE

>let me play kojima, goddamit

MGSV is in many ways a fuck you to people who didn't play peace walker so consider yourself flipped off if you were expecting anything else

and then as soon as Kojima lets everyone play

>wtf where's my absurdly intrusive story

>he is asking for a true MGS experience
Why would he want a bad game?

The Prologue is boring. You have no control over what you do until maybe 2/3 through. You shoot some guards, then it's a horse ride where you shoot at something with no reaction.

Here's to (You)

Pretty shitty impression imo. Being handheld through the beginning like that wasn't exactly fun.

Felt like a great continuation of the mystery established in Ground Zeroes and then it all went to shit when you're given a generic desert open world to run around and collect flowers in.

I've never played a Metal Gear game before, and I have no idea what the story is.

Where do I begin?

Like GZ then?

somewhere in the middle

10 minute cutscene followed by 5 minutes of gameplay followed by a 15 minute cutscene is inexcusable. MGS2 at least cannot possibly be called a good game, it's absolute garbage.

release order

start from MG1 on MSX if you dont mind 8 bit

start from MGS1 on PS1 otherwise

go

just play MGS3 and then IV

MGS3
Don't listen to faggots saying MGS1

I still feel the PS1 version is solid enough to enjoy. Release order is important, but MG on the MSX isn't exactly accessible.

It's funny because chronologically the first game is somewhere in the middle of the series.

>10 minute cutscene followed by 5 minutes of gameplay followed by a 15 minute cutscene is inexcusable
>he actually believe this happens
Not even in MGS4 it's like that
