Best Ys in recent times
I'm loving it
Also, post your favorite songs from Ys VIII I guess.

Definitely agreed with you there. Honestly, I'm fucking amazed how much Falcom managed to squeeze out of the Vita. This is bar none the best looking game on the system.
I'm shocked it runs as well as it does.
I'm disappointed they're not going back to solo Adol.
Probably not, the only good Ys game are when the player is solo (Ys1 and 2, 3/Oath, Origins).
Going through 7 and Memories of Celceta were such a chore and not as engaging compared to the tight boss patterns you would see in something like Oath in Felghana.
>importing games
Didn't one of the trailers made it look like the game ran like shit at some points?
Trust me, Ys VIII is a LOT better. I wasn't the biggest fan of Ys 7 and Memories of Celceta either, but Ys VIII is fucking GOAT.
Yeah, but I haven't run into any framerate issues. It runs fine, and feels great when you're playing it.
I enjoyed 1+2, Oath, Ark, and thought Seven was kind of meh but not bad, currently going through Celceta and loving it. Is Dana like Celceta?
Cool that's good news, the worst part of those games are the soundtracks. Outside of the usual openings, the tunes were hardly memorable.
Yes, but better. Exploring the world is a LOT better now that you can jump and shit is in 3rd person rather than top-down/isometric.
I agree with Celceta, as none absolutely none of the tracks in that game measured up to their Dawn of Ys counterparts, however Ys Seven had a pretty damn awesomene soundtrack.
how are the boss battles, that's what makes an Ys game. I hated the mindlessness of the newer games where you can roll like a maniac and beat bosses on first attempts. Granted I never did nightmare mode but the classic Ys game had bosses that can give you a run for your money on normal mode.
There also needs to be tunes like genesis beyond the beginning or to make the end of battle that makes you know you're playing an Ys game.
Praying for a pc port of the ps4 version
The game's bosses are much better than Celceta's, and the soundtrack is full of great tracks.
Bumper car combat wasn't that bad honestly
Speaking of bumper cars...
>Anyone else end up importing Ys VIII?
I haven't.
But I wonder did they nerf Flash guard/dash some more?
Probably won't happen because Chinese are getting a localized version right away this time
Normal is too easy for VIII. Play Nightmare. You need to use Flash guard and Flash move properly. They are more trickier to do now because bosses are faster and have a bigger attack range. Plus you take a lot of damage when hit. Some later bosses have lasers and bullets all over the place. Still not as hard as Oath or Origin, but definitely harder than Seven and Celceta. It's an amazing game honestly. Falcom put a lot of work into it. It annoys me that Tokyo Xanadu sells twice as much as Ys VIII when VIII is a whole lot more better.
That last song kicks ass.
...
Did they seriously add in Bumper Car combat to this one
Damn it I wanna play, but don't want to buy a PS4 or Vita. RELEASE IT ON STEEEEEEEAM
Yeah, there's an item you can equip that lets you damage enemies when you dash into them.
>Shita
Nah, I refuse to play Ys 8 on a dying piece of shit console. I'd rather wait for the inevitable PC port.
I did and I'm fucking loving it so far. Everything about it is perfect. I'm 7 hours in and have only charted 11% of the map.
Nice. Too bad Dogi isn't playable, though. Why do they keep shoving him away, he's the perfect bro and can actually kick ass when needed. but I guess we need more 1-shot characters instead.
Did Silver dude end up being a bad guy as per Falcom Law?
He fights with you in the Tower Defense sections, not playable though.
I'm still playing, but I'm getting the impression he's not evil. Also, how the hell was Loewe a "bad guy" in the end?
unrelated, but
>check the channel for more grorious Falcom music
>huh, I didn't know SnK3 had an Evolution version
>well let's see if it's any good
youtube.com
Oh my god why
How do they consistently fuck up the music in the Evo versions
Dude, it gets even better. After a certain point the map starts to really open up, allowing you to tackle things a bit non-linearly.
The 3rd EVO actually released right around the same time as Ys VIII.
>SC Evo's OST.
It hurts my ears.
>trailer has an amazing track
>"holy shit this sounds like an awesome field track like 'Ancient Land' from Celceta"
>keep looking for music releases to see when it'll show up
>it's actually the final boss track
>no solo release. have to see the final boss to try to listen to it.
youtu.be
at least we got the goddamn track in the full release of the game.
still wanna know WHERE THE FUCK DID THE TRACK FOR THE TRAILER FOR CELCETA GO
Hoping for a localization whenever they release the ps4 version.
Sorry, lappy ate shit for a second. Nah, I getcha, but I just mean that the Silver dude always ends up being a traitor, a bad guy, or some big mysterious rival nearly every goddamn time in every Falcom game.
Never played Ys before but this one looks interesting. I'm wondering, though, can I kick Adol out of the party and not use him after earlygame?
Yeah, if you're a horrible person.
Then you're gonna be waiting a loooooooooooong time bro
so no localization planned so far for ps4 and vita???
I'm conflicted, Sup Forums.
>Ys Chronicles has better gameplay and visuals
>Original TG16 Ys 1&2 has music that isn't mad gay
Fuck, dood.
It'll get localized, but there's nothing set in stone yet - or, at least nothing confirmed.
It'll definitely come though. The whole point of the PS4 version was to appeal to western consumers.
But he seems generic as fuck.
Either way it's great that you get the option, and thanks for answering.
i hope so...i played every goddamn ys that is out and i dont wanna stop there. i need my fix
mod it.
To add onto this; I'm not so sure if XSEED will even get the game this time around. After Tokyo Xanadu getting picked up by Aksys along with a PC port, I'm wondering if Falcom will want something similar for Ys VIII. XSEED are slow with PC ports, and they can't do it in house really... if PC is a priority for Falcom in the west...
Tokyo Xanadu just got announced for localization in the past month so it'll still be a while before anyone announces that they're working on this.
is the ps4 version just an upscaled version of the vita? why isn't it out yet?
so wait, is this not coming out in the US and yurop? can i import the japanese version when it comes out and play it on my yuro ps4?
I know that feel. I love the version of Termination used in Complete
youtube.com
the rift after 06:30 is majestic as fuck
More than an upscale, the original trailer showed better lighting effects - something that'll be on the PS4 version, I bet. The Vita release looks fucking amazing for a handheld though.
Nothing announced so far, if it does come it's going to be over a year from now.
You have a better chance of getting into a car crash and dieing before the game comes to PC.
>everyone who's playing it are saying that it's fantastic
>the game won't be localized for over a year
someone please stop me from importing this shit
Damn I'm impatient. How much will I struggle importing this if I know zero Japanese?
It'll be very painful.
...
I CAN'T READ YOUR GODDAMN MOON RUNES
TELL ME WHAT THIS SAYS
Well shit, I guess it's back to the waiting game for me.
I will say that the menus themselves are mostly in English, but yeah if you don't know any moonrunes you're gonna have a hard time with story objectives. There are markers on the map, but there will be times where you will be confused.
It's possible to play with no knowledge, but I really wouldn't recommend it. The game really does benefit from knowing at least the gist of what people are saying.
Pleasure of being decapitated.
Finally, a Ys thread.
I want to play through each game but I'm unsure which version to pick. What are the definitive versions of Ys 1-7?
Ys I+II: Chronicles, you can get it on either PSP or PC. Either version works, they're more or less identical.
Ys III: Oath in Felghana. It's on PSP or PC. PSP version has voice acting, but is 30 fps. PC is 60fps, probably the better option.
Ys IV: You're on your own here. Play Ys 7 before deciding which version of IV to play; Memories of Celceta is like Ys 7, if you like Ys 7 play that version. There is a PC port of Memories of Celceta floating around with an English patch.
Ys V: Don't.
Ys VI: PS2 version has extra challenges, 3D models for characters. PC version has an extra game mode that prevents you from using items, and XSEED added quick-travel. Play the PC version, quick-travel really improves the game.
Ys 7: There's only one version. PSP only, though it emulates well.
Ys 1-2 have unique antique 'bumper combat' even in the remastered versions. I have played but cannot stand the combat system. Anything after that and before Ys 7 plays similar to Zelda, I would probably recommend Ys: The Oath in Felghana for a starting point here - it's on PC. If you like that Ys Origin is IMO the best Ys game for combat and bosses period.
If you want to play the modern party system Ys games start with emulating Ys 7 then move onto Memories/8.
Ayy, how does VIII hold up compared to Seven and Celceta? I like both those games but not as much as bumper cars or Naphistim engine Ys.
>Ys I & II
Ys I & II Chronicles+, it's on Steam, and let's you choose between 3 different versions of the soundtrack, as well as 2 versions of in-game art.
>Ys III
Oath in Felghana. Wanderers aged like milk.
>Ys IV
This one's up for debate, but don't play Mask of the Sun, it's shit.
>Ys V
skip it. Worst Ys game by a long shot.
>Ys VI
Steam version. Quick travel really improves the game.
>Ys Seven
Emulate it in PPSSPP.
Don't forget to play Origins after 1&2. It's a prequel to the whole series.
>no pc version of 7 or 8
It's hands down much better than VII and MoC.
>PS2 version of VI doesn't have quick travel
I learned something today.
>Ys 1-2: Varies but Chronicles is good.
>Ys 3:Oath in Felgnana
>Ys 4: Varies
>Ys: 5: There's only one version that you can play in English
>Ys 6: I liked the PS2 version but PC is considered best.
>:Ys 7: Only has one version
what's the source of this?
Yeah, it's something that XSEED's in-house programmer added to the game with the GOG/Steam release.
>they added bumper cars combat to the game
That's amazing.
Why does everyone want Ys 8 to be on PC? Just get a Vita.
I'm not paying 150 bucks for something to collect dust immediately after I beat a single game.
Then get a PSTV or stop complaining dumbshit.
There are a lot of folks that first played the series on PC - including myself. Even though I have a Vita and was able to import the game, I'd wager most series fans aren't so lucky.
