Let's establish something we all agree on before this thread really picks up. It's something I think we can all agree on, and that fact is that this trilogy is garbage, especially the first one. All of them are pure unfiltered garbage you have to force yourself to like. Andromeda is going to be awful as well, as I'm sure you all expect. All three games are plagued not only with terrible inconsistency (even within each standalone game itself, let alone all three of them together). All of them have awful combat, and each have cliche and garbage characters you could only relate with if you had Aspergers. Some characters got better over the trilogy, some got worse, but undeniably every single one sat well below the "Acceptable" line.

ME is shit but experiencing it for the first time was pretty good.

No, the Reapers exist to prevent the destruction of ALL organics. The Catalyst has no problem killing 99% of organics so that 1% may be preserved because it is still technically doing its job.

ME1 was pretty good, even if it did steal about 60% of its plot from revelation space.
Actually, if they had kept the original motivation for the reapers, it would have been much more coherent.

I was under the impression that it was the pretty standard space opera motivation of the short lived organic species using up all of the available resources, and shortening the lifespan of the galaxy. Something about dark matter or energy? I may be completely off point here though.

And that's why the Catalyst was stupid and bad at its job. It hadn't created a solution, it just kept putting off dealing with the solution in 50,000 year intervals. It did nothing to solve the root problem, addressing WHY synthetics and organics were killing each other. It just decided frequent genocides on a galactic scale, permanently crippling any kind of technological and societal advancement that may address the problem it was meant to solve was easier than doing its fucking job.

The Catalyst was not just incompetent, it was outright lazy.

It had a solution, Synthesis, but it never worked. It wasn't until Shepard got to the Catalyst that Synthesis became a viable option.

It was something about dark matter and mass effect fields accelerating heat death so the Reapers were basically trying to extend the life of the galaxy.

It was revealed they were doing it. It wasn't revealed WHY until the third game. And when they revealed why everyone hated it because it was a stupid and overconvoluted response that exacerbated the problem it was meant to fix.

He was a side character even in his best scenes. Arguably killing him off in a news bulletin makes for more of an impact than having a whole mission devoted to randomly stumbling across this one guy you met before and having him die in your arms.

The war's big, people are dying, even this guy you met and liked is just a one liner in a news story when he dies heroically. It fits the theme of the game, of the hopelessness of this unwinnable war.

That said I'm sure the real reason so much stuff came through on emails is because you can change text like the day before you publish, whereas a voiced mission would take ages to get the script re-written, get people into the recording studio etc...

Over the millions of years that they ware doing the cycles, not a single race over came the cookie cutter advancements that they made, they would always use the use the beacons left by previous races, they would always use the ME relays instead of making their own, they would allways occupy the Citadel instead of trying to form their own establishment and place of power, they would always form empires and run the fucking show and then always fucked them self with synthetics

Nothing stopped them from evolving on their own.

How would fusing them all into the same thing somehow magically stop all conflict? Again it's a poorly thought out fix that doesn't address the root problem and misunderstands why conflicts occur.

And even if that WASN'T an issue here's another one. They could have tried that solution at literally any time. All that was "special" about Shepard was that they were a fucking cyborg. The Catalyst had the tech to make as many as he needed until he perfected the process and could do Synthesis.
