>Rudimentary creatures of blood and flesh. You touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. I am Sovereign. Organic life is nothing but a genetic mutation, an accident. Your lives are measured in years and decades. You wither and die. We are eternal, the pinnacle of evolution and existence. Before us, you are nothing. Your extinction is inevitable. We are the end of everything. We impose order on the chaos of organic life. You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it. My kind transcends your very understanding. We are each a nation - independent, free of all weakness. You cannot grasp the nature of our existence. We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure. We are legion. The time of our return is coming. Our numbers will darken the sky of every world. You cannot escape your doom. I am the Vanguard of your destruction. This exchange is over.
Let's establish something we all agree on before this thread really picks up. It's something I think we can all agree on, and that fact is that this trilogy is garbage, especially the first one. All of them are pure unfiltered garbage you have to force yourself to like. Andromeda is going to be awful as well, as I'm sure you all expect. All three games are plagued not only with terrible inconsistency (even within each standalone game itself, let alone all three of them together). All of them have awful combat, and each have cliche and garbage characters you could only relate with if you had Aspergers. Some characters got better over the trilogy, some got worse, but undeniably every single one sat well below the "Acceptable" line.
Brandon Nguyen
ME is shit but experiencing it for the first time was pretty good.
Anthony Ortiz
>one of the best things from ME2 >killed by an email bulletin in ME3
I'm still mad.
Jeremiah Wright
Explain. I never played me3
Chase Rodriguez
And tali doesn't even mention it, or does she?
I have fun and enjoy playing them
Levi Long
You get a news report about him being killed in action in the turian (not quarian, turian) homeworld.
Brayden Cox
It was an email you get after Palaven, saying that quarians volunteered to fix satellites or some shit for the turians. They got injured and held Reapers off and Kal'Reegar led the quarians and they all died. He was too good of a character to throw away like that.
Oliver Carter
> Talking to a friend about Mass Effect > "Yeah but reapers ware dumb, so stupid, like lol kill everyone so they don't kill them self, so dumb" > Well, no the concept of giving everyone a cycle to live and rule worked, also returning every 50,000 years, harvesting Advanced races capable of making synthetics that could kill all life in the universe and uplifting the top tier race into a reaper , the solution worked for what it was > "Nooo, its stupid, you see it makes no sense" > Tfw hes 25 > tfw he played all games atleast twice > tfw he still this fucking dumb and incapable of understanding biowares fucking basic writing
Zachary Howard
Nigger.
Owen Garcia
Damn
Josiah Collins
nice meme baiting senpai
Joshua Stewart
>a soldier dies fighting the enemy
War is a fucked up place Dying in battle is preferably to being crushed during an accident or some shit
Aiden King
>Unironically defending the worst villain motivation to come out of vidya in the last twenty years
Your friend was right
Alexander Gray
Random ass fucking side character is best thing about me 2? Being mad about said character that he doesn't appear in me 3? Are you joking ?
Nathan Brown
I don't think she does either. If she did, I don't remember her ever talking about him a lot. I would have assumed she'd care more about his death tbqh
Jack Parker
On that note, did the reapers actually build the citadel or was it created alongside them?
ME3 confused me a lot with that
Noah Long
The only bad thing about ME3 was the ending
Otherwise it was really enjoyable especially the multiplayer >tfw Kogan smash all day eerday
Daniel Clark
Considering they brought back Kirrahe and the fucking Batarian from the first game it's a valid complaint
Nicholas Bell
It worked for what it was
Christian Lee
The ending is great if the Indoctrination theory is correct.
If it's not, then bioware fucked up the most important moment of their most important franchise,
Eli Bailey
They made it and left it as a Venus trap, because every cycle it worked, the Advances races would Always occupy it and run the show
Julian Campbell
Can we just have one thread about Mass Effect without talking about the ending? Please?
Aiden Martinez
>his favorite character isn't my favorite character?
Joseph Davis
Yeah, the prothean on Ilos tells you that.
But then that stupid starchild/reaper trying to indoctrinate shepard said something like "The reapers and the citadel are just servants of the cicle" and confused me
Evan Carter
>Big stupid crustacean people are being big stupid and crustacean all over the galaxy >Notice their little filthy slave races keep building synthetics and the synths keep killing them >Big crab people decide this is no good because if this keeps up they won't have any slaves left to give them presents >Build the Star Child and the Citadel and tell it to figure out how to stop synths and organics from killing each other. >The Star Child decides the solution to stop synth on organic violence is to create a legion of synths and use them to kill all organics >Yes this is surely the perfect solution >Kills all the big stupid crustaceans and makes them into Harbinger the first Reapers, then wipes out all advanced organic life. >Waits 50,000 years for organics to build back up and start building synths again >Prevents them from being killed by those synths by killing them with synths, takes the best race from the group and makes another reaper >Cycle continues onward ad infinitum until the events of Mass Effect
Here's a handy timeline for you user
Lucas Davis
>for what it was A humongous pile of shit that doesn't make any sense?
Oliver Ortiz
I'm still mad that you can't bumfuck any of the aliens. Why can't I bang Garrus? Legion? Grunt and Wrex at the same time? OH but I get STEEEEEEEEVE and Kaidan. Thanks Bioware, you fucking hacks
Brandon Wright
> having random as shit behind the scenes npc > favorite character I'm not saying autism, but
John Rogers
>The reapers and the citadel are just servants of the cicle" Thats because the Starchild AI runs the show, the Citadel and Reapers serve as his tools
Adam Fisher
Mate, you are just fucking stupid if you can't understand a simple concept, im not suprised since you are here, but for real bro, its mass effect
Xavier Brooks
Homosexuality is primitive. Only pure lesbian relationships are allowed.
Lucas Barnes
Didn't they do the same thing to Emily Wong? Even worst considering fans loved her and they replaced her with Chobot, whom no one liked.
Samuel Allen
I liked Chobot, her feet SFM are top tier
Jacob Moore
But women are a meme, just look a the Asari
Camden Sanders
Garrus wasn't a faggot. Deal with it, nerd.
Aaron Reed
They did the same thing to that Asari bitch who worked for Saren and that guy Jack wanted to kill in ME2.
Connor Ortiz
no
Jason Bailey
Human women in ME universe are fucked, how can they compete with Asaris and their big blue dongs, they will steal the men
Dylan Mitchell
neat
Kevin Lewis
They can always fuck racists
Tyler Walker
Nice job resorting to insults. The motivation of Reapers is completely hypocritical and self-defeating nonsense that does not hold up under scrutiny
You can talk about how they're "preserving" life in Reaper shells all you like but the simple fact is that the Star Child states its purpose is to protect organics from being killed by synthetics and its solution was to kill organics with synthetics.
Cooper Taylor
What? Why are you quoting me?
I liked him too. But not every soldier character needs last Stand heroic death. He's death is a further example of the fact it's a war
Daniel Harris
Nice try user. Asari are bisexual, they're stealing the women too.
Brody Hall
>Remember who wrote this crap
Decent writers, at the time.
Shame you can't remember, because you clearly weren't even playing vidya at the time.
Ryan Sullivan
Geth are pretty sexy
Justin Johnson
> its stoopiud it maeks no sense it shits > well you are just fucking dumb m8 > nice kjob resulting to insutls :^) fuck off retard
Ryan Clark
No, the Reapers exist to prevent the destruction of ALL organics. The Catalyst has no problem killing 99% of organics so that 1% may be preserved because it is still technically doing its job.
Jacob Adams
ME1 was pretty good, even if it did steal about 60% of its plot from revelation space. Actually, if they had kept the original motivation for the reapers, it would have been much more coherent.
Ryan Cruz
I'm ok with this
Jason Clark
"I like wearing your armour, shepard commander, uwu
Sebastian Murphy
Their original motivation was "You can't understand us" basically
Logan James
I think Emily Wong was reporting from earth and the reapers were tracking her by her reporting signal so she kamikaze'd a reaper with her shuttle.
The stupidity of the whole thing is more annoying than the result of it. It played out over Twitter. So it was like the reapers were tracking a reporter on earth by fucking Twitter.
Joseph Allen
That was your understanding of the first game
Andrew Stewart
Star child's objective was to find a way to preserve life in general, not civilization or intelligent live. From this point of view Reapers made sense. Kind of.
Liam Ortiz
Even better would have been if they never explained their motivation.
Lines like this one >ou touch my mind, fumbling in ignorance, incapable of understanding. There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own you cannot even imagine it. I am beyond your comprehension. mean that no matter what their stated motivation will be, it wont live up to the way it was talked up.
Grayson Robinson
it worked right until they revealed it
Colton Morales
He left not space faring races that couldn't JUST entire universe the fuck alone
Matthew Walker
I was under the impression that it was the pretty standard space opera motivation of the short lived organic species using up all of the available resources, and shortening the lifespan of the galaxy. Something about dark matter or energy? I may be completely off point here though.
Gavin Hernandez
And that's why the Catalyst was stupid and bad at its job. It hadn't created a solution, it just kept putting off dealing with the solution in 50,000 year intervals. It did nothing to solve the root problem, addressing WHY synthetics and organics were killing each other. It just decided frequent genocides on a galactic scale, permanently crippling any kind of technological and societal advancement that may address the problem it was meant to solve was easier than doing its fucking job.
The Catalyst was not just incompetent, it was outright lazy.
Jace Nguyen
THAT'S JUST INSULTING
Parker Powell
Did original writers actually stated what the original Reapers goal was supposed to be? Or was Sovereign just being edgy?
Well since it was revealed since the very first game, It worked from the start, because they ware doing it for millions of years
David Ward
I played me 1 and 2 when they came out. Fuck off.
Henry Sanchez
Speeches like this rely so much on the voice that's delivering them.
Imagine if Gilbert Godfried was giving this speech. Same words, same pace, same emphasis and everything, just in his voice.
Christian Sullivan
They were originally trying to solve the problem of the mass effect from using eezo and shit speeding up the heat death of the universe. Killing organics was to buy time until they could figure out how to reverse the process.
John Adams
Tali best girl >tfw no turian gf love interest
Elijah Bennett
see
Dylan Allen
Either way Shepard din't understand them, Sovereign was talking to him as you would talk to your fucking cat, Sovereign does what he did for insane amount of time and Shepard is just trying to survive like the basic organism that he is
Asher Reed
There can be a Turian female in Andromeda, there's still hope
Michael Adams
It had a solution, Synthesis, but it never worked. It wasn't until Shepard got to the Catalyst that Synthesis became a viable option.
It was something about dark matter and mass effect fields accelerating heat death so the Reapers were basically trying to extend the life of the galaxy.
Liam Robinson
It was revealed they were doing it. It wasn't revealed WHY until the third game. And when they revealed why everyone hated it because it was a stupid and overconvoluted response that exacerbated the problem it was meant to fix.
Joseph James
Thanks user, that was what I was thinking of. That does seem more in line with space opera conventions, and ME1 felt like a love letter to classic space opera.
Anthony Butler
it didn't since the entirety of ME3 before the ending pretty much says "synthetics other than reapers are pretty reasonable and won't go full skynet"
as the most blatant example of complete tonal dissonance, EDI helps you all the way, is humanized by giving her a body, is given a romance with joker to showcase AI developing genuine emotions and affection for other beings, and in the end you're told with no option to argue that all synthetics will with 100% certainty end up killing all organic life. this is so mindboggingly retarded
Christopher Rogers
He was a side character even in his best scenes. Arguably killing him off in a news bulletin makes for more of an impact than having a whole mission devoted to randomly stumbling across this one guy you met before and having him die in your arms.
The war's big, people are dying, even this guy you met and liked is just a one liner in a news story when he dies heroically. It fits the theme of the game, of the hopelessness of this unwinnable war.
That said I'm sure the real reason so much stuff came through on emails is because you can change text like the day before you publish, whereas a voiced mission would take ages to get the script re-written, get people into the recording studio etc...
Lincoln Bell
Daily reminder that nemesis and control show shepard's indoctrinated eyes
Kayden Howard
About that, wasn't the original writer's idea entirely different? If anyone has a screencap of the user explaining what the deal was with solar activity being affected by mass effect (foreshadowed in ME2 in Tali recruitment mission), can you post it here?
Ryan Barnes
>addressing WHY synthetics and organics were killing each other. Because thats the way of life >It just decided frequent genocides on a galactic scale, permanently crippling any kind of technological and societal advancement that may address the problem
Over the millions of years that they ware doing the cycles, not a single race over came the cookie cutter advancements that they made, they would always use the use the beacons left by previous races, they would always use the ME relays instead of making their own, they would allways occupy the Citadel instead of trying to form their own establishment and place of power, they would always form empires and run the fucking show and then always fucked them self with synthetics
Nothing stopped them from evolving on their own.
Logan Anderson
>tfw anyone that knows you like tali calls you a space haj lover
How can she be compared to them when she's actually smart and cute as fug.
John Davis
...
Gavin Torres
Yeah and likely they will fuck it up. They already fucked Asari up what makes you think there not gonna go two for two.
Liam Anderson
>It had a solution, Synthesis Which was ALSO aggressively stupid and not an actual solution. Organics already warred on organics, and synthetics on synthetics. How would fusing them all into the same thing somehow magically stop all conflict? Again it's a poorly thought out fix that doesn't address the root problem and misunderstands why conflicts occur.
And even if that WASN'T an issue here's another one. They could have tried that solution at literally any time. All that was "special" about Shepard was that they were a fucking cyborg. The Catalyst had the tech to make as many as he needed until he perfected the process and could do Synthesis.
The ending was a mess no matter how you look at it.
Gabriel Wood
Advanced races ware producing dark matter, harvesting them insured the preservation of life for the no space faring races
Brayden Wright
I like the new asari.
Besides, there'll probably be more than just one
Lucas Bell
Why would you cuck Garrus ?
Ryder Moore
>Nothing stopped them from evolving on their own. Except the Reapers deliberately manipulating the natural development of civilizations so that they would develop along the paths the Reapers wanted and inevitably fall into the same pitfalls?
Blake Green
>I like the new asari
is it opposite day and someone didn't tell me?
Brayden Morris
The cycle LITERALLY worked If not for the reapers, Humanity in ME universe would have ended up as slaves for eternity in Prothean empire
Owen Miller
sovereign talks about technological development
Joshua Lewis
>This reveal is stupid because it adds to the problem it is meant to solve >NUH UH YOU'RE JUST A WHINER AND NOT GIVING ANY REASON IT'S BAD EXCEPT ALL THE REASONS YOU'LL GIVE WHICH I WILL IGNORE
Michael Morris
>This exchange is over. literally "end of line"
Carter Reed
Oh come on, the way she moves her face is cute
Gavin Hughes
>talk shit about universe >get shot
Ayden Cook
People are unironically defending the ending of ME3 and the motivation of the Reapers. It has to be.
Jackson Jones
that was just EDI wankfest waifu faggotry m8 dont confuse things
Zachary Scott
what the fuck
the logic in this post is retarded in so many ways
