Is there any point in going back and playing this if I've already played Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia?

I played it for about 2 hours and it just felt old and shitty, ugly, floaty and with poor controls. I respect that this game is where metroidvanias really started proper but it feels pointless to play after all the more modern and more polished newer titles.

>I respect that this game is where metroidvanias really started proper

What? There were metroidvanias long before this entry,

It is literally the best Castlevania. You are just trying to be a contrarian faggot.

>contrarian faggot
Fuck off. I love castlevania. It's one of my all time favourite series. I've played all the good 2d metroidvanias and even some 2d classicvanias. I just skipped sotn and don't see the point in playing a game that has clearly been refined upon and improved upon over years and years.

Metroid is one of my all time favourite series but I would never reccomend the original Metroid to anyone when RoS, Super, Fusion and Zero Mission have all improved on the formula so much.

You fuck off. SotN is the best one ever, anyone that says differently has not played it, or, like you, is being a contrarian faggot. Faggot.

Its in my top 5 games of all time.

Yes.

>It is literally the best Castlevania
Also, What makes it the best? I'm not calling the game shit. I haven't even played it more than 2 hours yet. When does it get good? What does it do that cotm, hod, aos, dos, por and ooe don't do? What makes it unique? It feels like all the following games have taken what makes sotn good and improved on it, making sotn redundant.

>SotN is the best one ever

And you can't just say 'because it's the first one I played'.

You know sotn had a unique spell casting system, a castle with level design that's never been attempted in any other game and bosses not found in any other castlevania games right? Play the game faggot. Protip: press up, down, right(or left)+ attack as soon as you gain control over Alucard.

>You know sotn had a unique spell casting system
No, I legitimately didn't know that. That sounds cool. Thanks.

Is it like the soul absorption in harmony of dissonance? or more like the spell glyphs in order of ecclesia?

It's short and easy. It also has really good music and a cool story. Might as well play it again to finish off your Igavania playthrough.

You have to do some directional inputs and press attack, like a fighting game. It's kinda shitty to be honest, but it does give you more options than just "equipping" the special moves. Alucard still has a limited moveset compared to most other Igavania characters.

There's all the familiars, unique weapon attacks and Shield Rod spells, mind you.

Unique weapon attacks were in DoS and PoR.

>Is there any point in going back and playing this if I've already played Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia?

Yes because it's far superior to all those games. They're like far-reduced clones of it. you done fucked up and played in the wrong order.

SOTN is the best single player video game of all time imo and I've been playing vidya since 1987

>it just felt old and shitty, ugly, floaty and with poor controls.

I'm fine with you nor enjoying the game because you decided to play the ones that refined the formula afterwards.

But to straight up lie like this? That's fucking bullshit user.

I'm just saying Alucard has more than just those abilities. The shield rod spells add up to a reasonable amount, just not as much as the other games.

armor and weapon variety in sotn also far eclipses those portable games.

even cloaks etc have special effects

I didn't say the only had the spells, just that he had less moves than most other protags.

Its like street fighter actually

All weapons in SotN had the same basic attack though, in other games you had different classes of weapons.

Dunno about that, I'm pretty sure AoS, DoS and PoR had more weapon variety. A lot of SotN weapons are just variations of the same sword, occasionally a knife or the same sword with a fancy effect.

>This whole thread
What the fuck OP, stop being a whiney faggot.

>All weapons in SotN had the same basic attack though

no they don't, not whatsoever. there are various classes of attack and then there are tons of variation within those classes. then there are special weapons like crissaegrim shield rod etc. you are not only wrong but like blatantly completely wrong.

once again wrong

seems like a lot of you played through with guides and ignored most of the weapons in the game.

rune sword is a generic sword. sword of heavens is a generic sword. right.

You mean without guides, right? If you had guides you'd find those weapons.

Aside from some special weapons they all work like the shortswords from other games.

>they're all the same except the ones that are different

SotN has a lot of special weapons but there's a shitload of weapons that just have a different sprite and the only thing differentiating them is the attack power. not to mention most of weapons are broken as fuck as well. The only challenge I ever found is if you play Luck Mode, Naked and with fists only. Essentially ignore most of the game.

Is Aria of Sorrow worth 40$?

The only Igavanias that are challenging without self imposed rules are PoR and OoE.

it was worth that when it came out but it's quite old now

it's still a great game but honestly I'd emulate or buy a cheap preowned cartrige from some second hand shop
