What went wrong?

Why did this game fail so hard compared to previous games? Even though DS 2 wasnt that good either it had much more replayability compared to DS 3.Thoughts?

fuck bandai namco. it's their fault that ds2 and 3 exists, if miyazaki didn't wanted to be the director of ds3 they would make another awful game like ds2 just to grab money of autistic children that only care about MUH PVP

Fast combat is a cancer on the series. It's alright in Bloodborne because it's well executed and it's nice to see a different spin on things, but the strength of Dark Souls was always the slower approach with a variety of playstyles. They also haven't even come close to matching the compact design of Lordran that makes exploration rewarding and interesting while increasing replayability. And I personally find it impossible to get immersed in DS3 due to the constant references to previous games.

Dark Souls 2 is garbage though, 3 is better.

It was okay. I had an easier time playing through it than DS or DS2, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I think you just have unreasonable expectations.

I disagree with 2 being garbage. The reason people think 3 is better is because the world is detailed and the visuals are the best ones in the series. The game also has very good boss battles after the first half of the game and that is it really.Dark Souls 2 has a richer lore to discover.Better story progression while having really bad world design and level designs the progression is interesting and non-linear for the most case.Better gameplay balance and pace where you can play with any build and still be viable. The game isnt autistically fast so every weapon differs from eachother unlike in DS 3 were a regular greatsword feels like a longsword when 1 handed.DS 2 also has the best game mechanics so far that is power stancing.I could type more about how DS 2 is mostly superior compared to 3 but it would take so long.

bloodborne enemies in a dark souls game

Rehashed Souls 3.0

I didnt say it was garbage mate.It just didnt have same replayability like in the other games. The game is good alone but not a good souls game.

DS3 was a good game, it's just that the Souls gameplay has lost its novelty.

I liked it, but i have never replayed any of the games more than twice i dot really get why people cant enjoy this and ds2 new areas and enemies > replaying ds1 10 times

?because the world is detailed and the visuals are the best ones in the series
No.
People think 3 is better than 2 because 3 doesn't have terrible level design and garbage bosses, and it's actually fun to play. You're harping on about a bunch of little things when DS2 just fails at a core level, which is why it's the worst of the series.

You said it failed "so hard" in comparison to the rest.

I never cared about Dark Souls 2's lore because of how awkwardly it handled being a sequel and some things being so poorly executed. I just never bothered with it. It doesn't help that I can't get into the setting at all due to the world design and visuals of the game.

I also hate the gameplay. It's slower, but weapons are still much closer to each other in terms of speed than they were in DS1. Your character moves like he's in molasses (pic related) so the game just feels like shit to play, and on top of that everything has too much windup and recovery. It just feels terrible and at the same time combat seems thoughtless relative to the first game.

Power stancing is nice, but it doesn't add that much for me and doesn't even come close to saving the game. They killed the RPG aspect in some ways too, with having four ring slots and equipment not mattering and titanite being abundant.

>literally your opinion
Also the only flaw with the combat is the tracking. It has the best gameplay so far out of other souls games. Not including BB to this though.

Yes, it's my opinion. Didn't think I needed to specify that, as it wouldn't really be anybody else's.

But seriously, it has the worst gameplay easily.

Your opinion means you prefer a faster combat.Faster combat makes singleplayer better i agree but in the long run, it kills the pvp.Pvp is one of the major reason i love the series because you can make cosplay builds, some interesting builds and fight againts people with your fresh made builds.I just like trying something new each time.I couldnt do that because the game mostly revolve around shitty dex weapons because the combat is too fast for its own good.Phantom hitxboxes are also worse because of the fast combat.

I don't think it failed completely, but it's seriously lacking in content. It doesn't have DaS2 variety or ng+ nor BB's "different enough to feel fresh" factor and spookiness.
Maybe the dlc will make it the best of the series, but probably not.

I don't prefer faster combat, I prefer Dark Souls' pace. Dark Souls 2 is just shit despite being slow.

2 controls like shit, the areas are shit, the enemies and their placement's shit and the bosses are shit.
It's not fun to play, it's a fucking chore from start to finish.

They are literally the same pace. The only difference is DS 1 doesnt have deadzones like in that webm and it has better weapon tracking.

No.

>shit this shit that
nice arguments

As opposed to ranting about lore? That doesn't matter. It's not enjoyable to play. It's a bad game.

You played DS1 and it was great then you played DS2 and it wasn't as good as 1 and everywhere you looked there was a thread about people bitching about it so it may have made it look even worse. People could just have been burned out by now. Once you feel like you've done all you can do gameplay wise then all that is left is story to keep interest, and a play through or two can drain all the information out of it.

I guess you need to git gut then my friend.

Because no poise souls.

At least in the second one some enemies still had poise and while they removed the slow pace for being fast, it still had some slow pace to it.

Dark Souls III is just you running to the mob and R1 spamming him, it's sad.

I actually bought the first one and the second one and I thought about getting the third one too. Yet I see they fucked PVP yet again and it seems that there's a steamfix for the online anyways, I don't see the reason to buy this game.

Dark Souls is dead to me, I still play the first one to this day, but I simply can not be arsed with the other two.

Get a better game, more like.

People who whine about DS 2's difficulty and saying it is artifical are just bad.I've seen how they play they dont have any self awareness when playing the game and rush in to kill mobs then when they get ganked to death they whine about it on internet.I guess you need to learn playing it before whining about it being unfair.

Perhaps you're shit, that's why you see it all around. You're seeing through eyes of shit.

Anyone up for PVP in dark souls 3?

Exaclty. They play like its DMC thinking they would jsut hack n slash through enemies and when they get fucked they whine about it.The game requires more strategical approach than any other souls games.Since their crutch build from DS 1 didnt work with DS 2 they just blame the game.Epic memes

you forgot to say that the npcs are shit and retarded and that lore is shit
>hey this guy on my side is my father
>hey this girl on my side is my daughter
>they never talk to each other

>People who whine about DS 2's difficulty
>before whining about it being unfair
I didn't.

After DS, DaS, DaS2 and BB people are tired of the genre. It's dead and has been since DaS2.

Isn't this one leaking active players?

Sup Forums, no matter how much you fucking try, you will NEVER be able to force the "DS3 is bad" meme.
I know you guys want to force the Zelda cycle into everything but it just doesn't work. DS2 was irefuckingdeemable compared to DS3. At least DS3 had some cool enemies and bosses. What the FUCK did DS2 have?
>Knight guy
>Knight guy with a mirror shield
>Ornstein
>A knight guy
>And one of the most pushover final bosses in a souls game next to fucking Gwyn.

I think it's great that people are having so many arguments over which souls game is better. It shows that From did designed each game to be different enough (while still keeping the same core mechanics) that different people with somewhat different tastes enjoyed at least one of their games for various reasons

Also I feel for people that 'hate' one or more Souls games, as I enjoyed every one of them in their own way and wish they did too

Seems like if you like BB the best you liked DS3. If you liked DS1 the best you hated DS3. I liked it and put it second behind BB. But I didn't exactly love DS1. It was fun but it didn't suck me in like BB did. Hated DS2

I feel like DS1 is extremely dated in terms of its controls. Button layering is fucking hell, and it's really dumb that you can only roll in four directions while locking on. The game set the stage for amazing sequels, but it's controls feel so dated.
I've never played demon souls so I don't know what to compare it to.

DS2 was hot garbage but I still got more hours out of only playing vanilla DS2 with no expacs than I did out of DS3 which I enjoyed a lot more. If more weapons and builds were viable in DS3 then it would have been okay

ds2 can never ever be forgiven for its sins though, simply awful game that needs to be forgotten.

The awful combat and world design killed the game for me. If it excelled in either one of those, I'd enjoy it a lot but it does not. It's not enjoyable to explore the world because of how linear and straightforward it is, and the combat is shitty R1 spam that cannot compensate for the linearity. The only improvement in the game is the boss design, everything else is just Dark Souls 1 minus quality.

Irredeemable is also a stretch. You people need to tone down what you expect. Especially from a sequel.

As DS3, DS2 is a good game and it is more than enjoyable.

You seem to be expecting a jump similar to Megaman > Megaman X in every iteration of the series. If so, you're bound to be disappointed.

They're taking too long with DLC, that's my only gripe.

>The awful combat

Stopped reading there. It's a souls game, what the fuck else do you expect? It plays literally like every other fucking souls game.
Let me guess, you're gonna cry about m-muh poise in a desperate attempt to grasp straws?

It's great, stop being a contrarian just to seem cool.

DS3=BB>DS1=DS2

This is objectively true.

>Phantom Menace released and everyone agrees its awful 2/10 at best
>Star Wars The Force Awakens is released
>>>>>phantom menace is pure kino! misunderstood genius lucas was always right! jarjar is sith!

>DS2 is released, everyone agrees its a 3/10 and would be a 0/10 without the Dark Souls branding
>DS3 is released
>>>>>DS2 is a good game! It's endless list of flaws and negative points are now invalidated!

The only thing I really don't like about Ds3 after going back and playing Ds1 is the lack of poise. Sure damage reduction is nice, but actually trading blows made fights seem more brutal. Plus fighting mobs is reduced more often than not to just breaking the enemy's poise through r1 spam. Albeit, this made the bosses feel noticably different as they regularly punish r1 spams and promote a more defensive play style, making them feel a bit more special.

/thread

Reminder that DaS2 has the best music in the series.

Are you on PS4?

>It plays literally like every other fucking souls game.
You don't know what you're talking about. It only plays the same as the others on a surface level. Souls games are about dodging and countering, not about getting the first hit in and then mashing R1 like a retard until the enemy drops dead, which is exactly what Dark Souls 3 is. Poise would help somewhat, but not much because the core combat and encounter design would still be absolute trash.

worst*
i can't remember a single music from ds2.

>It only plays the same as the others on a surface level

Stopped reading right there. I can tell you're just going to pick cherries in an attempt to glorify the previous games. There's no argument to be had here.

Oh boy, and what does Ds3 have?
>mobs
-big hollow, small hollow, smaller hollow, hollow with wings, hollow with leeches, knight, big knight etc

>bosses
-knight, dog knight, woman knight, bunch of knights, knight with two swords, fucking "hit the balls" tree, fucking "hit glowing bracelets" skeleton, fucking " charge le epic sword 5 times" giant and a fucking DO A PLUNGING ATTACK wywern

Literally the only good song is Majula.

Jesus christ, are all DS3 fags this touchy?

Actually you retarded weeb, TPM was beloved at release.

You just wanted nerd cred and jumped on sites like RLM.

I don't know, are most people on Sup Forums always this contrarian?

only poorfags complain about replayability.

>play a good game for 30 hours

>play a shit game for 300 hours

totally worth muh 60$ cause i played it for a long time DURR

Replayability isn't length you retard. It's depth and variety, something that a good video game should have.

BB has shit for replay value and equipment, why anyone places it above anything but DS2 is beyond me.

3 is great and the ultimate refinement of DS1.

Are you retarded? Have you even thought before typing this shit? Really hope you're bating

the only "depth" ds2 has over ds3 is ng+ which literally is lenght.

Good job simplifying everything, faggot.
Most of that sound INFINITELY better than

>oh...it's a knight guy...nothing special, he's just a knight.

Also DS3 has WAAAY more interesting enemies.

I'm going to be called a memer but literally no poise is half the reason this game failed.

The other half is a ridiculous host advantage compared to the invader.

And the third half is you basically only have one way to go from start to finish. You have basically zero choice in how to progress.

I just followed your pattern, you fucking mouth breather

The visuals are nicer in 3 but the level design is still shit like in 2. It's just so uninspired. 3 controls better though for what its worth but the combat itself isn't very balanced and the weapons even more so.

Yeah? How many areas can you do as your first non-tutorial area in Dark Souls 3? How many bosses can you fight as your first non-tutorial boss? How much out of the way gear can you get? That's not even getting into the build variety. And that's only talking about 2, 1 and Demon's Souls were both better at this. Seems like the only people defending DS3 are ones who don't play games more than once

You would know if you had actually played it friendo. Why some people are so retarded is beyond me.

>the third half
you really are an idiot

It's a joke, not a dick. Don't take it so hard, faggot.

Yeah? How many dudes in armor do you face in DS2? How many memorable locations are there?
At least 3's worlds were interesting and had character, unlike Ds2.

What the fuck are you on about?
I'm pointing out how Dark souls 2s enemies are bland shit, you reply trying to say DS3's enemies are bland shit, and I blew you out of the water. There's no "pattern" to follow you fucking homunculus.

You are stupid and have no idea why game actually sucks

personally hate most of the visual direction

piss yellow, overdesigned and cluttered.

too many fucking missable or hard to find quests

>shifting the goalposts already
Pathetic

Enlighten me, autismo.

It played it way too "safe" for lack of a better description. Trying to get rid of most of DS2's mechanics (for better or worse, mainly worse) also didn't help.

>Muh poise

You seem like the type of person that goes in an autismal shitfit and they changed sonics arms to blue.

trust me kid, phantom meance was hated for being shit. rlm didn't even exist when I saw it in the theatre at release so how could they form my opinions for me?

checkmate retard contrarian

>He is oversimplifying by saying that every enemy in Ds2 is a knight
>I do the same for Ds3
>REEEEEEE Don't simplify!!

Huh

Fuck OPEE and his braindead opinions. I FUCKING LOVE DARK SOULS 3 AND CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT.

Didn't think it would live up to my expectations after Bloodborne but there, I said it.

Now what do you lads hope to see in the DLC?

If the precedence is anything to go by (FROM's past expansions) then we're in for a real treat bois.

If you pvp for any significant amount of time that guaranteed stun from literally any weapon gets real old, real fast.

What the fuck kind of mechanics did DS2 even have that should have been embraced? Losing your health every time you die and causing you to grind for effigies for hours?
What about healing gems that people never fucking used because you had an estus?
Maybe adaptability which tied your fucking I-frames to a goddamn stat?

There was nothing worth salvaging from DS2.

>phantom menace was hated for being shit

It got good reviews all around. People leaving movie theaters loved it.

checkmate retard who needs validation and goes with the most popular opinion.

DaS is a good game improved by DLC
BB is a good game greatly improved by the DLC
DeS is an okay game
DaS2 is a bad game somewhat salvagable, but still rather bad, by the DLC
DaS3 is a bad game whose DLC is still to come and likely will fall in the same place as 2.

Namco will jew and make DaS4

Yeah because having over half of the weapons in the game be inferior to toothpicks is perfectly fine

Fail? I thought it was pretty much a success. It was a shit ton better than 2.

Who the FUCK plays a souls game for PVP?
Seriously, fucking who? How deprived are you of accomplishments in your life that you feel the need to be good in PVP?

>It will fail because I don't like it :^)

it looks fucking bad. Piss filters everywhere, bloodborne reject enemies that don't fit the environment at all, 90% castle settings, completely linear world design, still gimmick bosses, bad weapon balance, no poise, and so much more.

I can post random DaS1 screenshots and no das3 screenshots can even compare.

The one and only bad thing about DS2 is the amount of knight bosses. Thats it. Locations are nice and non-linear. Best PvP in the series. And, in my opinion, best atmosphere. Majula is 10/10.

>the need to be good in PVP
I never stated this. I just like invasion in souls games.

I don't judge you if you summon 3 phantoms to beat the boss for you do I, you incompetent piece of shit.

Don't listen to Sup Forums. They try to force the zelda cycle on every game with more than two sequels.

So not only do you play through the games once but you also don't participate in the online elements? Why don't you leave discussion to people who actually play the games and go play some cinematic experiences.

armor is divided into:
>light armor
>medium armor
>heavy armor

>light gives only DEF
>medium gives hyper armor/DEF
>heavy gives poise/hyper armor/DEF

>hyper armor and poise breakpoints are now visible stats

there i fixed poise

this

>4 months and not even a word about the new DLC

I literally forgot a bought this dumb pass.

Do you even fucking understand what are you talking about?
