There's this

I hear there's nudity in this game

It's really easy actually.
Quicksave in the Void and always care about your garden. If someone is going to raid it, load an old quicksave.
gg ez

Adding Pangolin as a pain in the ass bad designed boss fight imo.

grow colour and feed the sisters of your choice
just make sure you use the right colours in the right chambers and have colours to spare ti enhance your seeding and offering or whatever it's called

Get the easy or medium patch from the Ice Pick Lodge forums, vanilla is hard mode.
>Plant only 2-3 trees per garden at a time
>Always fill your hearts with golden before donating to a sister and violet before planting, silver any time is possible.
>Performing actions damages the gardens so avoid killing enemies as much as you can and if you have to remember to fill your hearts with crimson, green and blue.
>Explore for new hearts
>Don't waste color
>Save often in different slots
>You will eventualy have to choose who is best girl because reasons, choose wisely but try to not choose sister Death in your first playthrough, she is more expensive.
Yeah he is pretty shit however the battles against the brothers are pretty good.

Plus you should put silver and azure when traveling the void into your body. You can also take colors from your body which I realized very late.

the patches changing the colour/damage values completely ruins the point of the game i'd recommend against this

>the battles against the brothers are pretty good.

Indeed. Besides the one with the trumpets or what it was who is just way too easy and teleporting only.

I really love Mantid's design.

just use the console to give yourself color whenever you need it

>mfw reading this thread

I'm sure it makes sense in context but it looks like fucking gibberish

Seconding this. Vanilla is hard and it is somehow predistined that you fail your first playthrough as you don't know shit what to do. So actually don't read any posts AND PLAY THE DAMN GAME!!! Once you know what's to do and start over it'll be challenging but not a mess of colors.

whaler is literally /r9k/
>hates new things and new people
>wants to show you all the funny faces he has
>shouts a lot

Lurk moar.

this guy spooked me ngl

It's a pretty strange game.. Basically you die, and instead of going to the afterlife you get caught in a void. The void is inhabited by a small number of the girls "sisters" and "brothers". The sisters want you to bring color back to the void and the brothers want to stop you (I think). You are given different colors and each one has its own reserves. Each color does something different and you can use them to grow trees and flowers and stuff to bring color back into the void. However, color is also your life energy so you can't waste it otherwise you die. It's been years since I've played and I never beat it, so I could be very wrong.

Learn to hold color in your heart

It's pretty accurate.
It will still sound gibberish to anyone who didn't play it I believe.

the plot is open to interpretation

It sounded like gibberish to me and I'm the one who wrote that up. I might have to go back and play it again. I stopped because I misunderstood what was required to run. I thought it was just holding shift, but apparently you need blue color as well.

Yeah azure gives you speed, is it the void or in one of the spheres. Besides it won't deplete outside the void.

I had a lot of trouble getting the shapes/patterns to register. I would think I was doing it correctly, but the game just wouldn't accept it.
I just reinstalled it the other day, and I'm looking forward to trying it again.

No, the sisters are selfish beings. They take color into themselves so that they can ascend. Every one of them is just trying to go up and survive. Except one.

That's why Sister Death is best girl.

Whoever ascends will "color" the new life (which is more likely to be a depression than actual death). Ascending each sister means you're ascribing to their traits, it's not just what's happening here and now.

Saving at all messes up the game's theme, it's best to feel the tension and make gut choices based on it. Letting yourself fail is part of the understanding the game.

Restarting is fairly quick, and by that point you've learned ways to progress and can do so more easily.

I had a big ol' pet theory about The Void being depression as well, in which the Sisters are the way they are because they're seen through a sort of /r9k/-lite filter of "girls are lying manipulatiive seductresses trying to steal your joy and life force"

Of course when you get past that second heart opened up they really start acting like more reasonable, hopeful, decent people instead of the warped selfish manipulative aspects at the start. Probably because they're depressed and needy as well.

The ascending sounds a little like a depressive person getting into a relationship for a girl in the hopes it will 'fix' them, like if you give all of yourself to make someone else happy then at least your life will have had meaning. The Adit end is more like the 'by your bootstraps' type deal where you try to pull yourself out before latching on to anyone else.

It's a lovely game, I could probably english-major fanwank about it for hours. Most of it would be nonsense at best but at least it gets me thinking.

I dunno, I'm kinda with him on quicksaving. Some of the bossfights can be bullshit and the Pangolin and especially the Worm can cripple or outright fuck you over if say you get them down to 10% health after wasting your entire color stock but there's no more creatures around to Parasite.

And sometimes you just wander into a boss with none of the right Color he's weak against and the fight is downright unwinnable.

Guess it depends on how frustrating you find dying versus how atmospheric you find the tension.
