Kingdom Hearts Voice Thread

Why are 90% of the voice actors in Kingdom Hearts games objectively shit? Sora's somehow got worse after he hit puberty and everybody likes to sound really OFF for some reason. I honestly would feel more invested if I could believe anybody was showing emotions but I can practically HEAR them in the script room.

Alright then.

WHEN YOU WALK AWAY

This desu famicom. KH1 definitely had the tightest acting, but it also had the most cringeworthy script in retrospect.

>listening to Aqua in BBS

I just wish western copies of the HD collection had the Japanese VA so I can actually experience the game in a different way for a change.

YOU DON'T HEAR ME SAY

PLEAAAASEEEEE

I seriously have no idea how Sora and Kairi's actors got WORSE between games. Like Sora is at least a little understandable due to him hitting puberty between games but it just sounds so off.

Honestly it might just be he has the deeper voice while the character has barely matured. He still tries to do goofy dumb kid stuff with the voice of a 20 year old.

OH NAY NAY

OH BABY

DON'T GO

On the other hand, Roxas and Axel were bretty good in KH2, and completely forgettable in the few scenes they had in Days. Actually... most of the acting went okay in KH2, except Sora's.

>Near 30 year old*
FTFY

But aside from that I think it will be better with KH3 since people perceive Sora as being older anyway. Even though he's really not.

Kairi and Sora just stood out as so bad to me in 2. Everybody else was fine in my opinion but it was so noticeable. Also can we talk about what the fuck is going on with the delivery of ALL the characters in Birth By Sleep?

>ALL the characters
McCartney, Hamill, and Nimoy were absolutely fine.

SIMPLE AND CLEAN

MY HEART'S A BATTLEGROUND

I was talking more the main cast. Ventas sounded FINE to me but his dialogue was... weird...

Yeah, the high profile actors were good, the rest was just average, but if I had to pick on one it would be Aqua's. It's sad because I really want to like her character, but it's hard to do so when she whispers half of the lines and just straight up eats letters.

>he thinks BBS is the series worst voice acting

You've clearly never played the English version of Re:Chain

She sounds better to me as of 0.2's demo. I guess that time on Arrow helped a bit but of course some of her lines are still a bit meh.

Isn't Sora 17 in KH3?

He's reaching "grizzled badass" stage of anime lifespan.

Not likely, if anything he would be late 15/early 16 but Nomura has pretty much addressed that, it's his outfit that's making him look a bit taller, but his' proportions are the same as they were in KH2. Seeing as we have a timeline of how the games happen and they pretty much happen back to back after BbS he's probably nowhere near 17. But we also don't know his exact birthday either.

It still baffles me how Sora's heavy ass claymore style of using his keyblade left him less muscular than Riku's fencing.

Riku just seems to be more naturally built than Sora. Darkness probably also gives you gains.

I always thought the opposite, that a lot of games have bad voice acting but Kingdom Hearts actually had really good voice acting. Especially the first game because they all sound like actual children instead of like an old woman pretending to be a little boy. KH2 was good too because they sound like teenagers which they were in that game. I still think they sound fine, Sora is older now.

This is pretty much where I'm at. I could think of a couple of examples from the games where the voice acting was real bad, KH2 Aeirth, but other than that I generally like the VAing in KH.

The issue is mostly Sora's delivery. He sounds too artificially whimiscal. Like the actor is trying to sound dazed.

Deep down there's a light that never goes out!

I guess in DDD he kind of sounded that way but I think his character in general seems like he was written that way. DDD went a little too far with the naive Sora angle.

It's weird, because Vanitas has an awesome sounding voice. You'd think Sora would get a bit of that edge in his voice after formally fusing with Roxas.

Why would he?

Because Roxas was noticebly harsher? And they're one person now?

I don't think that's a straight comparison. Roxas while a harsher character wasn't literally the physical embodiment of a person's darkness and besides that, there were times were Sora have a harshness to him just not as notably as Roxas and on the flipside, there were times where Roxas would act more like Sora in terms of tone and what he would say, something that Riku remarks on.
