Nope, it's consistently low.

It doesn't but it won't get better either

everyone says it's good but I thought it was boring as hell... bland gameplay and general melancholy, bleh

never really got the dicksucking of okami viewtiful joe and god hand are way better games

I'm okay with that.

I haven't played Viewtiful Joe, and you may have point about God Hand, but Okami gives out warmth that few games do. It's fucking beautiful.

Send me 60 dollars, in cash.

Then I'll tell you.

fighting repeats of bosses is sort of it's only downside, it's a great long comfy game.

the time travel part didn't really seem to be needed though

I'd say it's lowest point is the start and only gets better and better the further you go.

Bland Zelda, but a decent time

The ending is amazing, go on OP

>fighting repeats of bosses is sort of it's only downside
fuck you, that was one of the greatest aspects of the game, also, spoiler that shit next time

>time travel part didn't really seem to be needed though
yeah, it was only THE major plot point of the whole story

i hated these things so much.

I would have been fine with fighting orochi and whoever else multiple times if they did anything new, orochi didn't feel like I was fighting a snake with 8 heads because not all of them were active. I also felt that the time travel shit could have been explained without actual time travel.

Gameplay-wise? No. But story gets into unnecessary loop.

it's a beautiful game but it honestly feels a bit dragged out towards the end. at least 1/3 of the game adds nothing to the gameplay and is just extended same content.

especially a certain easy as shit boss that you have to fight 3 freaking times.

What would had made the game so much better for me it would had been that it went kinda Zelda like and that after killing orochi and cutting his heads each head would had turn into a different boss and you would had to go search for each one and kill them

I admit having to cheat on the last one. I just couldn't do it.

i couldn't get into this game because of the 'random encounter' nature of it, battles take place in some ethereal arena instead of just in the overworld. seemed fucking stupid desu.

>if they did anything new
they couldn't, because you were reliving history. Also, sake

>the time travel shit could have been explained without actual time travel
The whole purpose was to show that it wasn't just a retelling, or two coincidental stories. History was that way, because you were there that time. Without the time travel the original fight would have gone very differently. Basically half the game prepares you for the knowledge needed to fight that fight, and make history run its course. So you learn from the legends of that fight, how to do that fight, so you win, creating these legends that you learned from.

The game in general is largely about folklore and fairy tales. Even if they may not add to the game mechanics, they are necessary for the environment. The game itself is a best-of of japanese myths, wildly blended together. Half the shit that looks completely random to us, makes japanese viewers with some interest in folklore smile.

Kamiya himself said he didn't want to make it a difficult game because learning about Japanese myths and folklore should be easy.

yeah, it makes the game work well, it's an entertaining stroll, not a challenge, not meant to be one. And when you're on a stroll, you don't rush. You look at everything on the side of the path. So the game has shitloads of whimsical shit to keep you occupied. If you're not in the mood for it, it will look needlessly distracting and lengthy

The time travel part was not needed. Try to justify it all you like, it adds nothing to the story. Take out that segment of the game, and you lose nothing important. The whole reason you even time travel is just because one child walked into a place she shouldn't have. It could have been replaced with her walking into and getting lost in the ice dungeon.

>orochi not the big bad guy in the game
>big breast dies and gets replaced by nine tails midway
>it should have ended with the nine tails boss

You lose that sick co-op part with your past self when you're at full power. Any time someone else used the celestial brush during a fight I got a metaphorical boner. Story-wise, yeah, I suppose you don't lose anything. But, personally, I enjoyed the entire time-travel segment right up until the repeat boss fight.

>you lose nothing important
if you don't consider it "important", that's your issue. Look at the other posts, you can't "streamline" Okami

>>it should have ended with the nine tails boss
It's even weirder when you consider everyone, inclusing Nine Tails him(her?)self, refered to Nine Tails as the "lord of darkness."
And then, nope, the real lord of darkness is a fish.

I really like Clover's other games, and lots of slower paced games, but Okami did nothing for me.

It felt like playing Chibi-Robo (reptitive and easy gameplay punctuated by everything being drawn out and sluggish) but without any of the charisma, which by the way manages to carry Chibi-Robo.

Hopes for Okami 2?

that it should never happen. I love Okami, but its story is told. Okamiden was a nice side story. The whole thing is complete

The time travel adds nothing.
Cut it out, and you lose nothing.

it's a good game but it's not a good Zelda game

I wouldn't say it dips, but depending on yourself you might get sick of it.

what made you think it's a Zelda game? Different name, different protagonist, different developer, hell, originally it wasn't even on a Nintendo platform

Similar mechanics, different cast. Same whimsical humor, but perhaps set in an altogether different era/mythology.

They do take place on the overworld, they just add a barrier around you.

I'm getting a not-so-vague sense of deja vu.

have you played Okamiden?

Gameplay: Only ever gets better, but not by much. You're pretty much given what you get at the start, and there's small increases.

Story: Starts in a good place, ends in a meh place.

What do you mean by midway in this context? Because Rao was dead from the start.

well, it was a long time.
dont know if she was dead from the start, or died sometimes later

I thought it remained consistent throughout, but there were small parts that dragged on.

>all these jackasses saying the story is meh at most
What the fuck? The last part where Issun literally makes everyone pray for you to save your ass was like the most touching part in the entire game.

The first time you meet her She was already impersonated by the 9 tails fox. You find her body in some secret passage and issun comment at how old it is

hm, i really should play this game again

Some people believe it goes on for too long, and that the final boss is disappointing. I am not one of them

Same, How did you do it? I recorded the screen with a cellphone

Yep, same here. I tried for ages and just couldn't fucking do it unassisted.

If I recall correctly the evil fox tsuzurao has hair in front of one of her eye because the fox himself is missing an eye.

It doesn't, it's a better Zelda than Zelda.

(then again, so is Dark Souls)

Anyway, uh, it's really fucking good.

Over half the content is sidequests, like majora's mask, and that's great, so yeah.

Wish there were more games like this. Just so damn comfy, I know that's cliche but the music and art style are what make the game amazing, just running around looking for secrets feels awesome

I kept pressing the PS3 menu-button (and the home button while playing the wii version - never played it on PS2). This froze the game so I could note down the last three areas. Did it 2-3 times and at the end I had all the areas noted down.

Only some fucking memory savant could do that without cheating.

any suggestions on how to tune pscx2 for it? Seems like some things like sound are a bit off. Or would you suggest a different emulator altogether? I'd like to revisit the game, but don't have the native hardware for it.

The last third of the game is the comfiest shit of all time

youtube.com/watch?v=D566niVB0lQ

piece of paper, pencil, and I roughly stabbed the places on the piece of paper while the sequence was shown, then replayed that. Didn't pause the game

Correct.

>the ending

Back when I first played it, I drew tiny numbers on the screen with a whiteboard marker

My dad was fucking pissed when it didn't come completely off

It's my favourite game, user. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I really don't understand why people love this game so much.
I started playing it like 5 times already but the artstyle feels so lifeless and sterile, and the gameplay is so boring that i couldn't make it past 3 hours or so. And the "tutorial" is so fucking long and boring.

How do I play this game with motion controls? Is it always gonna be waggle shit?

No.

>Holding the draw button and controller with my right hand while locking my phone between my legs recording video, and remembering to use my left hand to press the stop, browse, and play on my phone.
What a nightmare.

Its just as bad as having to cheat (i.e the only way to fairly win for non-music majors) at the Final Song at Drakengard 3.

How fucking young are you?

When the game first came out? Come on, man. It was on the PS2. Came out in 2006, so 13

That's something a 6 year old would do.

I was desperate and my brother egged me on. Sue me.

i didnt realise you had to do them in order

Those are entirely different games, maybe you dont get the dicksucking because it's just not your type of game if those are the games you are comparing it with? Personally I just loved exploring the nice looking world

user, the start of Okami is like stamping on your own dick. The only way it would dip is if Kamiya came round your house and shot you in the face.

starts fantastic dips a little in the middle, ends even better than the start

this is my no1 favorite game ever

I think the game started to drag on towards the end, and I don't like the boss rush at the end. Other than, excellent game.

It drags a bit near the end. But the final boss is bretty gud.

I don't remember any issues with it, but if you want to just check out what config they recommend on their website.

Why do people keep bringing up the zelda games when discussing okami?
Okami is all about the world.
Zelda is all about the dungeons.

I only tried it briefly recently (that intro is BAD if you want to test performance) and it seemed as if some sounds were a bit off. My computer is not exactly high end, so that's probably related

okami is my favorite game
it's a shame the combat wasn't cuhrayzee-er though

It was still surprisingly neat for an exploration-oriented game.
>forcing bolts of lighting to strike into the sword of Ninetails

>forcing bolts of lighting to strike into the sword of Ninetails
yeah, the brush technique weaknesses on all the monsters were pretty neat

How is the Wii version? Is it playable on Dolphin?

was your brother 6 years old?

I think the Wii version was better than the PS2, but the main draw was you could use the Wii mote as your brush. It worked most of the time, but straight lines (which is your basic attack) seemed to work shitty for me. I'm not sure how Dolphin works for Wii games that involve waggle, but it's worth looking into.

Okami's easily in my top 5, currently replaying the HD version. Gets better and better as it goes on.
A great case in which the atmosphere absolutely makes the game.

Thank you for your answer love

I can't relate with you on the artstyle feeling lifeless and sterile, I think it compliments the game wonderfully. Tutorial is unbearably long, but the game catches wind when you reach Taka Pass and keeps carrying you from then on.

it only gets better until the end
