>hates desert themed stages
look at this shit taste.

REMEMBER THE TIME
WHEN WE FELL IN LOVE
REMEMBER THE TIME
WHEN WE FIRST MET GIRL

RUN
ON
SENTENCE

Marble Garden will always be my most hated of the original sonic games.

Fuck that level.

Probably Mushroom Hill, there's a part where you're supposed to get on a rope and swing into a wall to break it but I always go flying off in another direction and never finish the level.

I can literally do a speedrun of sorts of all the games then give up right at this point.

This cunt right here. I will say Sandopolis Zone is the close second.

boards.Sup Forums.org/vg/sthg

This isn't a general retard.

yeah sandopolis is a bit shit i agree

The carnival zone in sonic 3. Its just real fucking annoying.

Yup, easily this

Although every level in Sonic CD sucks

I hate desert levels, but primarily because I've lived in a desert my whole life.

I disagree with that second part. I like Sonic CD for the most part, I just really hate Wacky Workbench.

I've always thought marble garden was ok and easy to breeze through if you have all the emeralds before then. Sandopolis however, is shit.

>Sandopolis
>Bad

Then why do you post only sonic threads?

Ghost Timer gimmick was annoying and drew out that boring level longer.

>Having trouble with the ghosts

Carnival Night is the worst

>am I the only one who hates desert themed stages in general?
I sure hope so.
least favorite 2D is Aquatic Ruins while 3D is the extremely long pain that was Eggman Land

Honestly it's not as bad as people say. It's tedious as fuck if you're a kid with a low attention span, but it's actually easier to memorise the layout of than say Marble Garden

I recently replayed S3&K a while ago and I was surprised how much I actually liked Sandopolis now. Must be the music/atmosphere.

I liked it.
Both acts.

Please delete this

Sandopolis Act 1 is a fantastic level, certainly amongst the best in S&K

Oil Ocean
Marbel Garden
Never had that much of a problem with Sandopolis, personally. Plus Lava Reef came after so I had that to look forward to.

What?

>liking desert themes/music
why?

what's not to like? desert music in Sonic is always great

I can't pinpoint a particular zone, but I know for certain it's in Sonic 2.

Desert themed stages are ass.
>Everything looks brown and yellow
>Obligatory quicksand that makes moving difficult.
>Obligatory sitar music that has neither a catchy melody, nor a driving beat. just kind of meandering note plucking.
>Obligatory sand worm.
>If it's an RPG: Obligatory segment where you get lost in the dunes.

This is the ONLY sand level music I found to actually be good.
youtube.com/watch?v=r8rkKEHv8zA
The night music as well.
All others suck balls.

i was born and live in the middle east, yet, i don't like any of these. sorry senpai

>Metropolis

uh being from a certain place doesn't mean you'll automatically like something inspired by said place,in fact it might make you biased against it.not really gonna call your taste bad or anything

...

any zone with water.

>Implying Hydrocity isn't fun as fuck

>Aquatic Ruins (most underrated zone imo)
>Chemical Plant
>fucking HYDRO-CITY

youtube.com/watch?v=Ih8c6I1zH7I
Fucking Oil Ocean

I don't even really remember what it was that made me start hating it so much. Every year I replay it and it feels like a chore, even if I kind of breeze through it. Mystic Cave comes second.

Shit, for as much as I played Sonic 2, I realized I don't like it as much as the other games.

like i said.

>Chemical Plant
>good

Mystic Cave is dope, don't hate.

Sonic 3&K is the only one I usually play to the end every time. With 1 I usually stop at Labyrinth and 2 I usually stop at Metropolis.

is that cliffy b

Pretty much every zone after Hydrocity is shit in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. There's 4 or MAYBE 5 zones past that one that are fun. Even then, the game mostly bombards you with shit levels culminating in Death Egg which is where they go all out with how shit they can make a zone.
I'm inclined to believe the only reason people prefer Sonic 3 and Knuckles over the other two is because of the gimmick shields and abilities. Probably the same people that like wisps.

Crash 3 had good desert music

sky high act 2, that fucking emerald in the clouds...

>tfw no one else has listed sms game levels, didn't even remember aqua planet for water levels
iShiggy.

>Hey you know how Sonic's all about speed?
>Yeah
>Well what if we had a level that was basically just a maze?
>Ok.
>And underwater, which slows you down more?
>Sure
>And makes it so that you have to breathe every 20 seconds or else you die!
>Sounds great!
>Just one more thing
>Yeah?
>You know the bubbles Sonic needs to survive the level?
>Uh huh?
>Why don't we make those appear randomly?
>I like the way you think!

The pits put a damper on it, the stabby-ceiling pillars would nab me on sheer luck, and the moving platforms weren't really hard but I don't like mudding through it.

...

At least if you know the trick you can beat the first act in under a minute.

Hey. Flying Battery, Lava Reef and Ice Cap are great!

And only idiots who couldn't figure out the drum mechanics in Carnival Night hate it.

>>Hey you know how Sonic's all about speed?
>>Yeah
Stopped reading.
Leave Sup Forums, Rich.

>pic related act 2
fucking ghost

Sonic CD

HOW THE FUCK AM I SUPPOSED TO GET TO THE PAST IN THIS LEVEL
AND STOP FLINGING ME UP TO THE GODDAMN CEILING
FUCK

Never had a problem with this.

Anyone who did has a double digit IQ.

Metropolis
>Those fucking star fishes
>Those fucking screws
>THAT FUCKING CRAB ALWAYS MAKING ME LOSE MY RINGS!!!

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Sure is a lot of rings you have there.

It'd be a SHAME if something happened to them.

Use the Zoom Tubes.

There are some tubes that can keep you moving fast enough to go to the past.

DAHNALD

How can all one zone's badniks literally be the worst enemies in a franchise

The mantis and the crab are annoying, but how do people keep getting tripped up by the starfish? You just... keep running.

I think there's one spot I get caught by them on and it's not even on the big screws.

The fucking spike blocks you had to jump on...
For no god damn reason THIS ZONE HAD 3 STAGES ONLY MAKING THE PAIN LONGER
The fucking final boss for this zone
The only way I could beat it was with my younger brother playing as tails taking a few hits for me....

>For no god damn reason THIS ZONE HAD 3 STAGES ONLY MAKING THE PAIN LONGER
The third act was supposed to be Cyber City Zone, but the developers ran short on time, so the level map was retooled into a third act of Metropolis Zone.

>starfish
I know I'll just keep going as fast as I can
>still gets hit
Purely the work of evil

Oh the more you know

They should have just cut the act altogether.

Mine is Labyrinth Zone Act 3, for the boss and the Sonic 2 Death Egg Zone, I have to spend the rest of the game collecting lives for those exact moments in game, just because of a terrible design choice, expecially for LBZ3.

As desert themed stages, I agree, I have like a "desert sickness" when playing desert stages on every game, and it's terrible, never stopped playing for this but when I do I feel a strange nausea and feel somewhat "depressed" and exhausted.

>yfw death egg zone for the first time

So are we only going with Genesis-era stages? Because I have a special kind of hatred for Eternal Engine and Final Fortress.

I'm fine with Zone 1, but fuck the pyramid with the ghosts and lights.

act 1 is pretty decent

as a kid, it always fucked me up
it's not really that hard, but it's annoying when you don't do it right.

actually, another thing that fucked me up as a kid for ages was in Flying Battery act 2, where there was a dash pad facing the wrong way and I didn't know where to go since up to that point, dash pads had always pointed in the right direction (you just jump over it)

I'm triggered.

there's bits where you can get hit by them going up the bounce walls

>death egg
>shit
Aquatic Ruins is either a: a slog if you actually enter the water or b: the second easiest stage in the game if you take the top (easiest stage is Emerald Hill, of course)
Hydrocity is fucking great though.

never did really like Chemical Plant -- at least it's really, easy to spindash jump out of the water if you land in it

I like Mystic Cave, but it took time to grow on me.
When I was younger, I liked Oil Ocean, can't fucking stand that stage now.

Aqua Planet on SMS might be my favorite stage music.
I still wish they didn't change any of the music in the GG version.

No rings
Had 40 lives
Took me 36 to beat it
Shit the pattern took a while

>Run as fast as sonic can
>get hit
>fall back down
>have to leave the area to respawn the screw again

Pure evil indeed

The fucking spike pits ruin it. It would be just fine if it were just a instakill. Instead either you keep picking up your rings every time you get hit or you happen to be Super Sonic and have to wait for either your rings or time to run out.

My guess is they were too far into it to just can a nearly completed level. The Metropolis version of the map goes pretty far back in Sonic 2 prototypes.

Bridge, Jungle, Sky Base, Gigalopolis, Sleeping Egg, Aqua Planet, Great Turquoise, Sunset Park, and Atomic Destroyer are all pretty good levels.

That shit only shows up at the end of the act.

Well shit. Maybe it's not as bad as I remembered it was.

I fucking cheesed it out and only hit eggman when he lands back down.

Took forever but I had like 2 lives and wasn't gonna risk it just to make the fight end quicker.

Metropolis comes to mind.

THE FUN STOPS HERE

Act 3 is worse.

Whacky Workbench has some of the most fitting music ever.

You referring to the JP or US OST?

JP > US

Sonic Boom > Toot Tot Sonic Warrior

This except in Tidal Tempest.

Sonic Boom = You Can Do Anything

I finally got to the past but I couldn't figure out how to get to the machine thing.
I looked it up and holy shit, this is complete fucking bullshit. That shit makes no sense. What the hell were they thinking.

Yeah, it's a load of bullshit. I love Sonic CD but fuck the entirety of that Zone. Finding that first Generator is a load of bullshit. At least the second act's is fairly simple since it's right in the beginning.

>Not just getting the time zones and ignoring the hidden machine bullshit

>except in Tidal Tempest
You wot?
youtube.com/watch?v=HXVuvo7OyXQ

That's clearly wrong but I respect your right to have an opinion.

I used to do that when I was a kid but now I like exploring the levels for them, user.

The JP one isn't bad at all, I still love it, I just think the US one is dope & better.
youtube.com/watch?v=ZYTedTVAdeY
youtube.com/watch?v=_kKPOYC8l-k

The Good Future one is better when it comes to the JP version though.
youtube.com/watch?v=irxxUeJza2A

Tidal Tempest has the best music in the game in both versions.

Well without the US version we wouldn't have this:
youtube.com/watch?v=X0WAn8qEkOU
True. I just absolutely love the JP bad future.

Stardust Speedway Present US > Stardust Speedway Present JP
Tidal Tempest Present US > Tidal Tempest Present JP
JP > US in everything else

I preferred present for JP and good future for US.

Can we all agree that Lost World from SA1 is the best.
