I'm playing through Persona 3 right now and I love nearly everything about it, but I can't stand Tartarus anymore. I've gone through I think 20 floors, and they all look exactly the same and have the same enemies. Does it ever change? Especially does it eventually look any different? I want to finish the game, but I'm so bored of same looking environments and enemies over and over.

>I've gone through I think 20 floors
>I can't stand Tartarus anymore
It gets a sligthly different design with every new section
and monsters get repainted and shit
but yeah basically you are stuck with it for the most part
There are different looking sets of floors throughout, with different music and enemies, but it's all fundamentally the same.
Tartarus has over 200 floors total
You can just rush through Tartarus until you can't climb anymore then you progress with the story
>20 floors
>can't stand Tartarus anymore
Try P4 instead. Much more variety in dungeons, each one having their own design and theme.
Just play Persona 4
3 is rather unpolished, pretty rough to play through, even as a fan of the series
>but I can't stand Tartarus anymore. I've gone through I think 20 floors, and they all look exactly the same and have the same enemies.
This is what is wrong with modern day JRPG dungeons. So many of them have such bland and uninspired level design that it kills the game.
>I've gone through I think 20 floors, and they all look exactly the same and have the same enemies.
That's how it is for the entire shitty game. It's garbage, just drop it.
I recently played this for the first time (P3P) and finished it, took me 60 hours.
There's 256 floors dude. Just rush up the floors to get the warp gates and try to reach the next barrier before the next full moon. Go to Tartarus when it's unstable and look for the floors that have powerful enemies, you'll level up 10 times faster.
Raise your social links in the daytime (after school) and raise your social stats at night. You should only go to Tartarus about 3 times a month.
Tartarus gets tiring, some variety happens in there, but nothing too drastic. If you can deal with that it's a really cool game though.
You realize P3 is from 2006 and they've vastly improved the dungeons since then right? P4 has very unique and inspired dungeons, P5 dungeons looks promising as well.
Tartarus only gets worse with time.
Stop before its too late. Leave the game with fond memories and play P4 instead since it doesn't have shitty Tartarus. Or better yet, play mainline SMT and skip the Persona series altogether.
You can't be serious holy shit
It's all the same shit again, dungeons have no variety at all
It changes appearance with each block. More precisely it changes theme, but it doesn't actually change anything mechanically. So the first theme is a pretty standard mysterious school chessboard, the next one is a purple HR Giger nightmare, the next is a cubist/constructivist blue hell, and so on. I don't know, I never had a problem with Tartarus because I was concentrating more on how to exploit the field mechanics of Shadows than caring about repetition. If it gets too boring you can always leave and do it later.
While we're on the subject, I'm trying to design a game with a dungeon similar to Tartarus. How would you guys do it? I'm trying to avoid Persona 4's shitty "worlds" where they're all separate and themed on random dumb shit.
Don't worry OP only 240 left to go! I actually like tartar sauce so I didn't mind. At the very least the music improves the higher you go so look forward to that.
The P4 dungeons are even worse.
If he loves nearly everything of the game, let the dude finish the game first you dumb fucks
Post yfw P5 has handcrafted dungeons with actual level design.
>P4 has very unique and inspired dungeons
lol fucking please. They are straight corridors with prettier wallpaper.
...
So we can agree that Devil Survivor does everything Persona does but better right?
I would introduce a different field mechanic in each block.
Nothing too major, but enough to make things interesting.
I'm thinking thematically of course.
No new mechanics no, but it's a dungeon crawler, so I really didn't expect there to be.
Master of Tartarus is the most hype boss battle music of all time. fact
Muh nigga
I do hope you are playing the FES edition and not the original.
The first one, sure.
Fuck, the reveal with MC being able to participate because he's Abel was so good, holy shit
>The P4 dungeons are even worse.
Oh fuck off you delusional ass licking P3 fag.
P4 dungeons are shit, but still leauges better than the cancer that is Tartarus. Atleast P4 changes the wallpaper and is much shorter.
Fuck, I'm playing through the answer right now myself, 8 bosses in. Does it get better? Because that neo minotaur was garbage, and the slaughter drives and spastic turrets aren't fairing much better.
Why the fuck do people pretend 4 has better dungeon design? The only thing it has over 3 is more pallet swaps. And I guess it has that one dingeon with the "puzzle" section.
People seem to forget that P3's bosses are also fought in area's seperate to the main dungeon too.
Shit, I just remembered that I had dropped P3FES again. It's the third time already.
What's the best strategy for Tartarus?
Mad dash to boss floors, activate check points, grind if necessary.
>FES is an expansion to Persona 3, in addition to adding new updated content to the main game (referred to as "The Journey"), includes an epilogue to the original story titled "The Answer" in which the player controls Aigis. The core gameplay of The Answer is similar to that of The Journey, although the Social Link system has been removed, and the player does not attend school.
It doesn't really add all that much.
Beat all the bosses available to you in a single trip to maximize waifu faging time
I know that, but do the bosses actually get better? The last few I tackled sucked, horribly.
>I love nearly everything except the gameplay
sorry, it doesn't get better
They are exactly the same as far as I know.
>Started watching the P3 movies
>Got hyped and wanted to play the game too
>Couldnt decide between FES or P3P and went back to P4 instead
Welp, I had forgotten how much of a cringe Yusuke-kun is. At least Rise arc is coming up!
Both P3 and P4 have ass dungeons. P4's are superior because
>directly related to the plot and characters
>character events every few floors
>wildly different palettes
>different music for each dungeon that is thematically appropriate
and most importantly
>there's far less floor overall you have to go through
I understand what you're saying, but for some reason Tartarus never bothered me. I liked that it was randomly generated, I loved the modular music. I guess I was too focused on finding treasure and fighting Shadows to care about the backgrounds. But yeah, it is repetitive as shit. I fucking love the aesthetic of this game though, all the weird colors and blood all over the place and music, it all just hits me in the right spot. Fuck I love this game.
Same here, you're not alone. I liked how the music shifted just a little with each block. And you had the option to explore around and get shitloads of loot or just book it for the stairs at your leisure.
I understand people saying it drags and it's a slog, but that made it actually feel like climbing an endless giant tower to me. It SHOULD feel like it's taking forever, it takes you an ingame year to climb the damn thing.
Definately m8s. The feel ans design of Tartarus is just so thematically appropriate to the entire tone of the game.
>I liked how the music shifted just a little with each block
Yesss youtube.com
It's always nice when fans of a game admit that something is shit but they like it anyway. We need more of this and less bending over backwards in defense.
a lot of Sup Forums is the type of person who's incapable of looking past flaws.
personally, every single game I've ever loved or that really stuck with me has been flawed pretty badly in some way or another. but they more than make up for it in other areas.
fuck polish. it's a good thing but it's vastly overrated.
don't think I'd call Tartarus shit though. thematically ace but not the most fun to spend so much time in.
>shit
I didn't say that at all. I'll admit that it's repetitive, easily. But then most RPGs are.
I haven't read any interviews, but it seems like the devs paid a lot of attention to the theme and aesthetic of the entire game. For instance, if you die, you get that blurb from Igor talking about how all journeys come to an end - and the screen goes black at the exact same instance the final piano chord is struck. I can't overstate how much I love stuff like that.
the game as a whole isn't shit, but I'm not going to say that every little tiny bit is perfect. It's definitely not for everybody, and it's not like you have to be like super intelligent or whatever to appreciate it.
