So we can all agree that Kojima is actually a god-tier genius?
He took us to a level of immersion unheard of with any game before. Not only did we BECOME Big Boss, we got to feel the same feelings Medic Boss felt. The whole thing about medic boss is his pain and his phantom limbs represent that. Meanwhile, we feel the same type of phantom pain from the hype of a good game and all we got was this steaming pile of shit.
Kojima knew we'd be disappointed. He knew we'd STILL be so fucking mad almost a year later. He knew we'd have at least 4 MGSV threads up at a time. He didn't just want us to witness medic boss' pain; no, he wanted us to feel it ourselves.
Bravo Kojima. No game will ever affect us like this again.
he left us with the phantom pain that Venom Snake had

Camden Gonzalez
>He took us to a level of immersion unheard of with any game before. Stopped reading there. For this to be true, he has to have made a GAME. Not a cinematic experience.
Noah Kelly
Your post is bait, and way over the top, but I'll bite anyway
"Kojima is a hack" is an insane forced meme. He's a great creator, and Konami fucked him.
Noah Evans
>I didn't play TPP It has a lot of steam shit flaws, but that's one you can't say. It did have a lot of gameplay.
Brandon Hill

Adrian White
For the billionth time. You are playing as Big Boss. The real one. He is what is called an "unreliable narrator". Paz cutscenes and paz tapes confirm this. He suffers from schizophrenia and dissociative disorder.
He halucinated many things in the game, including (but not limited to) Liquid's paternal test coming out false, the entire TRUTH mission, and pretty much anything else that made him think he and Big Boss were diffirent people.
Right before you start the TRUTH mission, the following quote is displayed on a black screen: "There are no facts. Only interpretations." - Nietzche (famous philosopher)
I've redpilled you enough. The rest, you'll have to connect the dots yourself.
Venom is Big Boss.
Juan Jackson
No, I didn't "play" TPP. Because TPP needs to be a GAME for it to be playable.
All I saw was 5 hours of cutscenes and 50 hours of dialogue and exposition.
Jace Mitchell
Holy shit fucking kill yourselves my man the world will be a happier and more peaceful place without your presence
Literally like 30 minutes total of cutscenes and a million hours of running 4000 meters across the map through an open world of fucking nothing.
Brandon Martin
...
Bentley Price
The delusion on this one.
Bravo, Kojima, you fucking madman.
Levi Reed
You guys ready for MGSVI?
William Myers
You do realize Kojima half-assed this shit just to make the Big Boss dying twice thing in his first metal gear games make sense right?
When are we gonna see MENCA requirements on game development to be qualified to be called a genius?
Blake Cook
KOJIMAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Joseph Lopez
Well you've made your point clear and your opinion completely invalid. The most common complaint when it came out was that they took MGS4 is a movie talk too seriously and there was a massive lack of cutscenes and story. It's fine not to like the gameplay but to say there is not enough gameplay in MGSV is moronic.
Luke Morgan
So sahelantropus is REX right
Joseph Wood
I don't get it
Lincoln Cox
Explain me why Big Boss doesn't have a horn in the future.
Robert Cooper
seeIt's not enough to just have gameplay. You can't have too much story either, no matter the gameplay. I don't want 100+ hours of boring gameplay if I have to suffer through cinematics and story of this caliber.
>they took MGSIV is a movie talk too seriously
I hope you don't think this. They didn't take it far enough.
Ethan Gonzalez

How do I fix this on PCSMX2?
Gabriel Robinson
The sounds of the underlined words in Japanese create new words.
Cryptography
Cameron Perry
You know what, I'lll gladly take your advice, user. Being cinematic experiences, it's very easy for me to not play them.
Still, i wonder why gameplay stopped being the most important things in a game. It's odd.
Angel Anderson
you don't because pcsx2 is the worst emulator ever created.
Ayden Kelly
Clearly it's all because of Undertale
Levi Mitchell
the paz cutscenes explicitly show the medic/Venom noticing the second bomb and saving her. Her entire storyline stems from Venom's trauma of letting the second bomb pass.
Besides that, Venom is noticeably different in personality to Big Boss, and willingly pursues nuclear disarmament and peace when Big Boss wanted a war without end.
And your entire theory is retarded, you might as well just say that he never got out of the coma and all of mgs post GZ was a dream
Zachary Collins
Prove it
Joshua Fisher
i don't know if you're joking or not, but there's actually a disturbing amount of similarities between Metal Gear and Undertale.
>gameplay was an afterthought >the entire point of the game is to tell the story >pretentious messages about politics and privilege shoved in >propagated memes just to be popular on tumblr (le basketball skeleton, le played like a fiddle) >no replayability unless you're a diehard fan of movie games
I wanted to like these games, but why focus on story in a video GAME?
Jeremiah Perez
>I am bait
Colton White
Denial stage, huh? Kept us waiting
Brandon James
I love the perpetual asshurt this, basically perfect, game caused because it didn't perfectly align with some fans' headcanon
Elijah Walker
> and willingly pursues nuclear disarmament and peace when Big Boss wanted a war without end. Nuclear deterrence prevents wars. Disarming nukes helps create wars without end.
Ian Peterson
>gameplay was an afterthought >Metal Gear >pretty much invented the stealth genre >iconic stages like Shadow Moses, Tanker and Grozny Grad >memorable boss fights >le gameplay was an afterthought xD
Bentley Phillips
This is exactly what Skullface was trying to achieve, too
Connor Hughes
If the gameplay is afterthought why do I fucking hate every single thing about MGS2 that isn't related to gameplay or Liquid's voice?
Luis Brown
Invented stealth, you say? Okay. Let me ask you this then: can I skip past all of the cutscenes AND the load screens associated with them? That means I don't even want to skip them. I want them gone entirerly from any given playthrough, kinda like the "speedrun" mode in Axiom Verge, or the "alternate" mode in Freedom Planet which skips all the story.
Jeremiah Martinez
The cutscenes in V are great and altogether roughly as long as an average MGS game, and the best thing about V is that there is a story reason to continue playing after the end
Oliver Allen
Cutscenes are skippable yes. I don't know what are you whinying. Can't you press start?
Nathan Phillips
I want to also skip any loading screens associated with them. This was the reason why I hated MGSIV so much. Also, no dialogue in mission, or voice acting.
See, I just can't handle that, when I skip a cutscene, and the game decides to just throw the story at me anyway, as if my effort was in vain.
Josiah Garcia
Well, to be fair, it's hard to hate Cam Clarke
Alexander Gutierrez
The biggest problem with MGSV is that normies just DON'T GET IT
5 hours of cutscenes for a 100 hour+ game is extremely good ratio for modern day. And for reference, here's MGS4 youtube.com/watch?v=5AhGj4oisfU which was only around 20 hours.
Daniel Garcia
You seem to pretty autistic to get so nervous about story in games. You could play Angry Birds, perfect game for nostoryfags like you.
Cameron Hall
Wow, you're really down the rabbit hole.
Joseph Brown
hd collection :^)
David Nelson
He fucked himself, fag. He went entirely over budget and still couldn't finish the game. It's easy to blame Konami because they're a shell of the company they used to be, but in this particular instance, they were entirely in the right to fire his ass when he blew all of the cash they gave him and still couldn't deliver the product he promised.
Brayden Thompson
sadly you'll have to change to software mode but try one of the latest git builds and it might have been fixed on hardware
Kayden Foster
If: >Venom Snake is the Big Boss from Metal Gear 1, >The real Snake is the Big Boss from Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid 4, >Eli is Liquid Snake, >The Third Boy is Psycho Mantis, >The Man on Fire is Volgin, >Huey is Hal's cuckold of a father, >Kaz is Master Miller, and >Ocelot is Ocelot, then I see no reason why Sahelanthropus can't be REX.
Andrew Fisher
Kojimbo is a fucking hack. The producer that kept his crazy ass in check left after Snake Eater and it shows.
Ayden Morris
>Grand Theft Auto >DMC3 >Doom
I'm terribly sorry, but I disliked every one of those games for similar reasons, but one reared its head more than anything else: too much story.
>5 hours of cutscenes for a 100 hour+ game is extremely good ratio for modern day. Nah, that's actually pretty terrible. A good ratio would be, oh say, 800 hours of gameplay for 10 minute of cutscenes. That seems like a fair one.
Terraria, Dwarf Fortress, Super Mario, Gradius, Contra, La Mulana, FTL, etc. They don't force a story down my throat, so I consider them far better and more "videogamey" than Kojima's cinematic movies.
Leo Fisher
Because Otacon made REX
Hudson Barnes
He went a bit overboard with the parasites. The idea of an intelligent epidemic that kills people who speak specific languages sounds cool, but it ultimately fell flat.
Logan Powell
>don't like Kojima because he George Lucas'd himself after MGS3 >think he's a better idea man than director/designer and he works better when he has a co-writer to keep him in line like MGS1 through 3 proved >think he's egotistical and arrogant if interviews like the one with the MGS1 localizer and other have proved >think he really dropped the ball with TPP because he was so desperate to make it feel more like a movie/tv show that he put the rest of the game on the backburner for unnecessary, pointless features, to say nothing of how he fucked the story even further >also don't like how for whatever reason he decided to start hating Solid Snake and start slobbering all over the one-dimensional, emotionally manipulative Big Boss' cock >have said all of this time and again in a concise manner >"YOU'RE AN INSANE SHITPOSTER KOJIMA WAS A GENIUS IT'S ALL BIG BAD KONAMI'S FAULT MGS TURNED INTO WHAT IT DID!"
It's not worth it at this point.
Brayden Johnson
What's wrong with stories?
This. The concept is pretty neat but with poor execution.
Ayden Wood
And it's still the best PS2 emulator
Christopher Miller
and he proved Sup Forums that it's better long-ass exposition than gameplay.in a fucking MGS
Elijah Wright
>Terraria What are you 12? Why not mention Minecraft as well? >Gradius, Contra, FTL >800 hours of gameplay It's 40 minutes to an hour tops, repeat playthroughs don't count, or one can technically claim any game has infinite "hours" if they are autistic enough to keep replaying the same game over and over again.
Landon Perez
FOX
Jace Lewis
He was chief engineer on the REX project. That doesn't necessarily mean he started from scratch. He could have very well used (knowingly or unknowingly) parts procured from Sahelanthropus by DARPA.
Nathaniel Martinez
That is your opinion and I respect it but I don't share it.
Ryan Johnson
>also don't like how for whatever reason he decided to start hating Solid Snake and start slobbering all over the one-dimensional, emotionally manipulative Big Boss' cock
I don't think this gets discussed as much as it should because it IS really jarring when you look at the series as a whole and how it always had Solid as its heart. Personally, I think the idea of a cloned person learning to fight for their own agency and ideals outside of the pre-programmed life they were born for is more compelling than I KILLED MUH MENTOR HERE'S A BUNCH MORE SEQUELS WHERE I FIXATE ON IT AAAAAAA. Big Boss' story should have never continued after Snake Eater because every subsequent sequel has only cheapened his character and made him more and more unlikeable.
Nolan Lee
>mgs4 has infinite hours of gameplay >but also infinite hours of cutscenes Jesus Christ
Alexander Hughes
>"...dies? But the FOX Engine came out on top? Thanks, FOX Engine!"
Brayden Turner
What's wrong is when they're given too much focus. If you're interested in a game for the story, then just watch it on youtube. A game needs to be about gameplay more than anything else. That means no other element should have the spotlight, not even for a moment
>What are you 12? Why not mention Minecraft as well? >repeat playthroughs don't count Do you know why I count repeat playthroughs and better replayability for these games? Because their appeal isn't the story. It's the gameplay, which is so well polished that it can hold itself without any story whatsoever.
Compare that with MGSIV, where you never wanted to touch the game ever after finishing it. Why? I already know the story, so the gameplay is boring and means nothing to me, since the narrative was so interwoven everywhere to the point where you can't escape it even if you wear out your pause/x button to skip the cutscenes. MGSV did that too, taking you out of the gameplay so much just to tell you some dialogue. It kept getting in the way of the gameplay.
I mean, go ahead. If you can find me a 5 hour stretch of MGSV gameplay that doesn't have a single line of dialogue from any character whatsoever, and no cutscenes, then I will gladly concede that maybe I was wrong.
Julian Hughes
>Doom >too much story
Zachary Morris
>even for a moment You are so narrow minded it's really sad. Stories give context, I don't want to simply press random buttons and magic light appear on screen, I want context, I want to explore and discover a world.
Dominic Wilson
Compare it to the original and you'd be shocked.
Angel Turner
Well, it is possible to do 5 hours of FOB.
You get Ocelot saying the same line every time so that doesn't really count
Xavier Howard
>I mean, go ahead. If you can find me a 5 hour stretch of MGSV gameplay
Do the same for another game you named dwarf fortress.
Cameron Davis
That guy hates cutscenes
One cutscene in 500 hours of gameplay is enough for him to call it a movie
Logan Lewis
So is Episode 51 canon? It's essentially an 18-minute deleted scene.
Gavin Miller
>What's wrong is when they're given too much focus. If you're interested in a game for the story, then just watch it on youtube. A game needs to be about gameplay more than anything else. That means no other element should have the spotlight, not even for a moment
I think the only instance where it's acceptable is if the game is advertised as completely story-focused up front, like Telltale's games and others of that nature are. I can buy something like Heavy Rain or Until Dawn and shittalk it, but I can't really complain about the lack of gameplay when it's advertised from the get-go as having very little of it.
Brayden Young
I thought you were talking about the original.
Jayden Harris
>That seems like a fair one some dopey shit my man
Nolan Robinson
If you want context, a good game will deliver it through gameplay. If you need to throw a cutscene into there to deliver context, then you've failed as a game designer.
Gradius, easily. Also, R-Type. Crimson Clover as well. Ikaruga. Any game you can play on repeat on harder difficulties.
My problem is that these """"games"""" are being advertised as 60 dollar interactive products, and technically you do interact with them, but to such a small degree that it might as well be a DVD player that freezes once in a while, asking you to press the play button at certain intervals.
Isaac Reed
I know a game you might like, it's called pong.
Jordan Sullivan
I hope you're not implying that pong sucks because it doesn't have a deep unskippable 50 hour narrative. Being so simple is what makes it so replayable.
Nathan Bailey
This is literally the worst thread on Sup Forums right now.
Jack Russell
>get 100% completion >never touch it again
Wyatt Lewis
Hopefully it takes place immediately after MGSV. It would be a great way to explore:
>How Venom Snake goes about his operations after discovering that he isn't the original Big Boss >Miller's continued animosity towards Big Boss, and how he plans to use Venom Snake against him >What happens to Eli and The Third Boy >What the real Big Boss is up to
Angel Hughes
>final mission is Venom fighting against Snake >you can't win >post-credits mission is Snake against Big Boss
Brody Turner
I specifically mentioned Dwarf Fortress.
Leo Thomas
Who the fuck plays videogames, they all suck.
Owen James
Yes, you did. What about it?
Mason Kelly
Metal Gear Solid "I've sent the VIs to your iDroid."
"Take a good look."
Caleb Morgan
Hey user do you like Baldur's Gate?
Elijah Sullivan
Not a fan of it.
James Cooper
You ignored it, because it's yet another example you gave which goes against your rule.
All you are doing is proving you are extremely autistic by the way, are you Ulillillia per chance? youtube.com/watch?v=09MzaJVH5b4
Christian Adams
I didn't say every single game needs to follow it, but story heavy "movies" should have one area dedicated to being videogamey.
Bentley Howard
What about Planescape: Torment?
Daniel Torres
Didnt like it either. You'll find that I'm very consistent with my standards.
Shoot, I didn't even like Final fantasy that much because of all the unskippable cutscenes.
