1080 vs. 1070

What's even the point of getting a 1080 honestly
>400$ cheaper
> basically the same performance, only 10 or so frames difference but still way the fuck over 60

Why would ever wanna get a 1080, just for excess?

I'm trying to build a PC, so i'd like to know what everyone thinks.

1070 is legit. I'm sure 1080 has it's roles and purposes though.

Don't try to act like since you're building a PC you are a genius on GPUs and their performances in every kind of scenario.

I'm not, i'm legitimately asking "is there any point of getting a 1080 when the 1070 exists".

I got one since i own 144hz monitors

60hz isn't smooth enough

There's a time and place for everything, including the 1080's performance.

The issue is whether or not that time and place is worth so much more price-wise.

How much ram do I need? 16 GB seems like a lot. Would 8 Gb suffice in this day and age?

Depends on how much you multitask. If you don't 8GB is enough, if you do you need 16.

can 1080 even run 144z on latest games? even in 1080? let alone anything above. if no, whats' the point?

I have 8 gb RAM and it is more than enough to play a high-end game and browse Sup Forums at the same time.

I have a 980 ti and let me tell you this. Anyone who buys stock cards of the 980 or 1080 are total retards. You ALWAYS wait for the ti version. I pirated No man's Sky and I get perfect 120 fps where people with the 1080 lag like shit.

The ti always has better architecture.

The 1080 is essentially a more future-proof 1070 for 1440p. Otherwise you can kinda ignore it, yeah.

DSR

That applies to all cards made at a later date. Same logic applies to the 1180 having better architecture.

Eventually, you're going to have to buckle down and get a card knowing it will be outclassed within 2 years at most.

What is the actual architectural difference between the two besides 'this one plays better'?

Do you guys think there will be a 1070ti? I have a bet that they'll make a 1080 ti but not a 1070 version.

do you have a 144hz monitor or 4K TV? 1080

still 1080p? 1070

>there will never be a non-founders edition of the gtx 1070 until gtx 11xx details leak

I really wanted that $380 deal

diminishing returns

Wouldn't think so. Master race people are some of the biggest liars and bullshitters. Funny how many posts I read about peoples pcs that have specs 2 years older than mine but still for some magical reason they get 30+ more fps and 'max out' modern games.

And inb4 b but muh oc!! I've oc'd since the 90's but even oc'd I can't compete against some posters magical old computers. Funny huh?

Can't wait for the I run Witcher 3 at 300 fps maxed out on my 1080

Are you kidding? There have been tons of jet deals for the 1070. The lowest I've seen is 340

not him but I have a 60hz 2k monitor (2560x1440) so could I stick with the 1070?

With a 6600k oc to 4.6 and 1070 no oc at all i get 144fps minimum on witcher 3 in 1080p on ultra.

you buy one so in a years time you can play all of the unoptimized new releases that will only run on a 1080.

>144hz
I don't even notice the difference between 60 and 75

I'm getting a 1060 upgrade, but that's because my budget is restricted.

I'm building a new rig and have basically every component except the gpu. I'm sitting on my hands here because I want to get a 1080 but also want to get it knowing in the 3 month step up period the 1080ti is released so I can take advantage of that. Fucking hell I want play vidya now.
