Should I buy a Dreamcast?
Should I buy a Dreamcast?
does it still support dialup?
Yes and buy this
You can find them dirt cheap, they play burned CDs (save for a few late american models), emulation is shit and it has native VGA support. If there's a couple games you want then go for it.
Only one of these.
>buy
As long as you're going to mod it, sure.
>not owning the broadband adapter
Come the fuck on man
Models made before October 2001 don't need to be modded.
The only reason I would get one is to run SHENMUE 1 & if you can find it part two.
Are those the ones you use a cd key on? It's been so long.
Newest models won't play burned games.
No, I mean the old ones, where you had to insert a cd unlocker kind of thing before putting the burned game on. I had one of those and used to know all about it but it died years ago and I've been thinking of tracking another one down.
Those aren't necessary any more; they had those at first because they didn't know how to put the game on the same CD as the booter but when that was fixed, the "boot cd" thing became no more.
I see. Cheers m8, thanks for the info.
You could waste $50 on worse things, I guess...
I recommend Toy Commander, Tech Romancer and Red Dog: Superior Firepower.
I suppose you might come across a few images from the boot-cd era though that won't boot by themselves that would make the standalone boot cd necessary, but I would hope that any images out there are self-boot these days. I still have the bootcd thing in my Dreamcast CDs just in case.
>Toy Commander
muh nigga. I loved flying into the sink to fight the ants
What dreamcast is for in 2016:
-a collector for the sake of collection
-an indy/homebrew supporter
-someone who really enjoyed Naomi II games(e.g. crazy taxi, marvel vs capcom 2, virtua fighter 3tb, capcom vs snk 3) and wanted an arcade perfect port of those games without buying Naomi II
-someone who wanted to play Quake 3 Arena or Phantasy Star Online on console
-someone who wanted glitch-free local co-op4-player Power Stone or Chu Chu Rocket
-someone who wanted to play DC games without paying for XBLA/PSN and/or don't want to worry about those servers discontinuing
What dreamcast is not for in 2016:
-monetary profit
-emulation machine, since psp/xbox does much better
-someone who has a mild interest in the exclusives but already has XBLA/PSN
-someone who wanted a VCD player(Saturn is the better choice)
-your only interest in DC are Neo Geo or CPS3 ports (i.g. Last Blade 2, KoF98/99, Garou MOTW, SF22i/SF3TS all are faulty ports)
-you don't enjoy big default controllers
-you don't have CRT and can't be arsed to buy a VGA adaptor
Dreamcast plays VCD?
Do they even have cheap S-video cables for Dreamcast? The only ones I see on Amazon are either expensive or "don't work".
It's the best console, get some Crazy Taxi!
Dreamcast still has Shenmue and some other exclusives, best versions of Rayman 2, Skies of Arcadia and some other games.
yes, its unironically my favorite console from 6th gne
It's a shame no one has done some kind of sound fix patch for the Skies of Arcadia gamecube iso, since if it wasn't for the sound issues it'd be the better version of the game.
VMUs are pretty cheap
like $7-8 bucks on Amazon
does turning your dreamcast upside down damage the system at all
Anybody else play this? This game is actually really really good
It's never not the time to buy a Dreamcast.
Why not? Dreamcast emulation was still flakey as fuck last time I checked, and you can literally just burn CDs for any game.
Emulate unless you can get an early DC that reads CD-R. Later models dont.
Most of its games worth playing have been ported to other consoles. You're probably better off softmodding a huge xbox since for a brief time it was more or less the unofficial sega console.
>Most of its games worth playing have been ported to other consoles.
most of the time the dreamcast version is the best version though
Depends on the game.
>you can burn almost all the games for free and they work with no modding
>you can play almost any dreamcast game
>you can play this game
Jesus christ, OP, why HAVEN'T you bought a dreamcast?
>What dreamcast is for in 2016:
-Sega Rally 2, Canon Spike, Armada, Cannon Spike and Gun Lord
