this, there is literally no point anyway
>no manual
>have to install the game anyway on most systems
>the game likely won't even work right without the day 1 patch, so you're still tied to servers anyway
about only reason left is reselling, but if you were going to keep it either way...

This.
Slowly the disc you will be getting with PS4/XboxOne games will only be gateways to server installations.
Those 5-10 years down the line most of those "bought discs" will be useless anyhow and they can sell you the game again via digital or some other means.
They see via Nintendo how they have been able to resell Super Mario Bros 1-3 over and over and over due to most normies (aka the bulk of the costumer base) not being able to hook up an old NES to a modern TV and "whut is an emulator?"
This is true.
Playstation would have done this years ago, but they were unlucky that even 20 year old PS1 games still work on most PS3s.
>purchase game
>preorder incentive is DLC that should have been in base game
>no figures, key chains, or other useless crap without paying $10-$40 dollars extra
I remember getting a really nice Metroid t-shirt for pre-ordering Hunters way back when. Banjo-kazooie came with the soundtrack. Darkwatch also came with a shirt.
>wearing videogame clothes
I mean this was a really neat Metroid shirt.
PC games are already like that, most of them nowadays have like 50MB of data on the disc then launch a steam downloader
..and heck, many old physical games also don't install anymore due to broken DRM, and need to be cracked despite legit
Well the whole PC gaming market is a mess doomed to fail from the beginning
I love PC gaming but it's fucked.
>open up case
>no disk just a download code for the game
It really isn't.
>Preorder Ocarina of Time back in 90s
Get free Ocarina of Time T-Shirt
>Preorder Hyrule Warriors
Get "clothing" for my "character" in-game
I guess companies feel like it's not like we leave the house anyhow
>Buy Scott Pilgrim from Gamestop

Fuck me. This is the future.
>Buy XSEED game on console

>Comes with a 2 years delay and shit optimization
Just download it online nigga
>go online

>open case
>a 4 pages "manual" explaining basic controls
>one paper with an "exclusive" code
>one paper with an incoming game
>get watchdogs for PS3
>"FREE CONTENT EXCLUSIVE FOR PS3"
>expire code
FUCK OFF UBISOFT
>game explains everything through well detailed unskippable tutorials
>still has a manual that explains the same thing and has nothing else
for what purpose
I never got why a _PS3_ disc can't have its exclusive PS3 content, most of the time it's just a 100kB unlock and it's on disc either way
But I mostly buy retro games. Carts can last forever.
carts degrade pretty bad over time, and sensitive to how they are stored
humidity is especially bad for them
>manual has babes in it for you to jack off to
>hook up an old NES to a modern TV
>modern tv
>not an LCD
Holy shit, now I know how being triggered feels
That's why you take care of them, numbnuts
>LCD
CRT*
Wow, I don't even know how I made that mistake.
>put disk in console
>have to install the game
blu ray is the biggest cancer in this industry
except they still degrade even if you take care of them, it's just a matter of how long it'll take
Well my copy of Transformers G1 for the Famicom still works so clearly I've been doing a good job.
Plus worse comes to worst, you can replace them, carts are dirt cheap.
>play Mafia 2
>find random poster
>pick it up
>it's a FUCKING NAKED LADY MAAAN
>game literally has dozens of playmate magazines scattered all over the game world you can pick up and jack off to
>get Rockstar game
>get a free map
I love these guys
>Buy Resident Evil 5.
>DLC is on the disc.

>Opens Fallout 3 case

this was useful in the days before easy access internet porn

You missed the part about normies.
