The atmosphere of Deus Ex is cool and I am a dreamer (neet college dropout, shut-in). I have yet to play a video game that didn't disappoint and had a genuinely good story-line that was in any way uplifting, inspiring or at all surprising. Portal is probably the only wholesome game I have played, but even there the story was paper thin and merely a veneer for the gameplay.

Deus Ex was campy as fuck and its plot also wasn't that deep. It was compelling because it married the campiness with the cyberpunk artstyle.

There are so many games with decent stories. Kotor and Mass Effect 1 come to mind but they were only part of a golden age of video games and its associated writing.

Deus Ex had few really good story moments though, but like you said it was mostly very campy. Morpheus' dialogue in particular is pure gold and he's a god damn optional encounter.

I also personally liked the focus on future government control, internet and such much more rather than HR or MD's sci-fi racism theme.

HR and MD really like to press our noses into the political dramas of our time, whereas Deus Ex simply played on really basic problems in political theory.

The fun thing about Morpheus is that he spoiled the entire game, gave you the gist in two sentences.

Deus Ex came out in times of political apathy which had subsided by the time HR came out. A shame really, video game writers now feel compelled to shackle the narrative to political agendas.

Played a bit on PS4 now.

Animations in dialogues are much better than in HR, but still quite janky. Drops in heavily scripted are noticeable, but the gameplay itself is really smooth so far.

Aside from the technical stuff, game-design wise this game is polished as f***. Really astonishing. The UI is marvelous, attractive and functional. Every item now has a nice 3D model in your inventory.

Every gameplay aspect of HR seems to be improved AND expanded. Level design improvements are already noticeable. So many small improvements but also big additions in form of the new augs.

And visually the game is just drop dead gorgeous in many places. Not every texture has the same quality on PS4, but the areas where it matters for Deus Ex are as fantastic as always: Rich and detailed, handcrafted rooms and city areas full of stuff, objects, graffities, notes etc.

Prague seems to be huuge. I've already spent several hours in the mini-area around your apartment and Adam's background for this game already takes me places i didn't expect after most of the trailers.

Music is as perfect as ever. The richness of the setting, word-building and lore seems to be even bigger this time around.

Great stuff, already my favorite PS4 game.

(Only noticed the PS4 fans in some of the more heavily scripted dialogues so far)
