>survival game >hostile wildlife >no lethal means to defend ones self >no hunting and living like our ancestors >pacifist devs
I want my money back. Growing up near the sea and having to deal with hostile sealife, this games approach to non-violence is an aboslute farce. Are there ANY mods to add weapons? Jesus Christ. And the developer using America's gun culture as a motivation to not allow lethal means of dealing with the creatures in this game, is pathetic beyond measure.
Daniel Howard
>indie devs >being liberal cucks stop the fucking presses
John Wood
Yeah suck lets hope they add mod support.Devs are retared.
Anthony Ward
There's enough of this talk on the general every thread, man. The dev is an idiot to be citing Sandyhook and that crap for his reasoning, yeah, but it's not bad that there aren't weapons. A speargun could be cool and there's already a gas torpedo, but it's best to not have actual weapons like plasma guns or something.
Asher Roberts
So I take it you don't really know much of what's in the game, and what's going to be added to the game.
Adam Cooper
It's like these dev's only experience with the open seas is through some sterile tourist package. I've dealt with Giant Barracuda's to sharks. Having a lethal weapon with me was always reassuring.
Jayden Green
As the game gets closer to completion there's going to be more incentive to keep creatures alive.
Kayden Fisher
I think the main point is that you'd be overpowered and you'd quickly notice how bland the game actually is since you aren't hopeless now. Of course you could implement a deeper combat system with upgrades and fights that can kick your ass even with the best weapons like in MH for example, but that would require actually effort instead of being able to sell the game by just spamming "muh underwater horror" meme.
Colton Turner
OP here
I agree with you entirely on what weapons should be added. I'm not asking for some advanced ranged weapons. At least give me and other the option to make tridents, spearguns and hand thrown harpoons. That's not unreasonable.
I just got the game but am curious if the devs will actually allow me to be a proper open water survivalist.
Jaxson Edwards
Guns would make the game too easy.
Why do you want to be able to shoot every fucking thing you come across? There would be no fear left in the game. You can still use your dagger to kill anything. You can build torpedos.
Only that one developer was a liberal cuck, the rest of them denounced him and said it was for gameplay reasons.
Andrew Nguyen
I don't want to keep these creatures alive. Preferably, I would like to decorate the insides of my structures with the bones and teeth of hostile wildlife. But apparently that would hurt the dev's feelings.
Jordan Cox
>I just got the game
Yeah that's what I figured
Hunter Barnes
OP here.
I should have clarified that what I want is at least to be able to have more melee weapons and simple ranged weapons such as a speargun. Nothing too "overpowered".
Henry Price
>I would like to decorate the insides of my structures with the bones and teeth of hostile wildlife. But apparently that would hurt the dev's feelings.
Sounds like a complete waste of time to develop useless decorative shit for your insides. Doesn't sound like this game is for you and you didn't do your research before you bought it. You're an idiot.
Isaac Campbell
Maybe you should play a different game then.
Logan White
Then please go ahead and enlighten me. Because being killed by hostile cunts, and not being able to exterminate them in self defense is pretty silly.
Aiden Gomez
Well it's not like it'd be any more of a waste of time than the other decorative stuff for your bases.
Kayden White
There are weapons in the game that trivialize it more than a fucking spear gun.
Why did you not google or search anything up before you made this thread? You're a fucking moron.
Matthew Baker
Op here
What bullshit this game is being sold on in terms of being a "spookey survival game". You can make motherfucking advanced pressurized underwater structures, yet players some how are unable to add a god damn fucking pole to a knife?
Jaxon Hernandez
Then google it you piece of shit. We shouldn't have to tell you how to play and learn the different schematics in the game. This thread was a complete waste of time when there are several ways to handle the hostile sealife in the game.
Lincoln Moore
You can punt them away with the the repulsion cannon, freeze them with the stasis rifle, shoot them with torpedoes, stab them to death, ram them, etc.
Gabriel Lewis
Like what? The stun rifle?
Ethan Myers
...Is it being sold as a "spookey survival game"? I thought it was being sold more as an underwater survival game.
Justin Cox
Why would you trust Poles with your knife?
Xavier Reed
You're awfully angry. I did google all of this yet only the knife seems to be the lethal hand held tool.weapon.
Chase Bell
Wait what? Did the dev actually say no weapons because of fucking sandy hook? What the hell?
Connor Cooper
This It doesn't excuse it but it should be expected I would also think having hitscan guns in a wide area with no cover would be way overpowered
Levi Russell
WTF I HAVE TO HIDE FROM THE MONSTERS? WHY CAN'T I JUST SHOOT THEM WITH A PLASMA RIFLE?
Lincoln Torres
Spear.
Juan Rodriguez
Well in terms of lethal options, there's of course the survival knife, gas torpedoes and electric defense grid (though it can take a bit) for your seamoth. In the experimental builds you can load stuff from your inventory into your propulsion gun, including gaspods and crash's, and I believe the Exosuit will be able to have a torpedo launcher like the seamoth.
In terms of less-than-lethal options, there's the stasis rifle, repulsion gun and vortex torpedos for your seamoth.
Levi Stewart
They added nerve gas torpedos even though that particular faggot dev complained. It's one guy on the team, he doesn't make the final decisions. I've got a very big penis.
Christopher Garcia
He basically said he was sick of violence in the world and wasn't going to add to it by making more violent media.
So he wasn't blaming Sandyhook on vidya, if that's what worries you.
Liam Carter
There's a knife, bruh. Get good at defending yourself with it, pussy
Charles Sanchez
I like the relative lack of guns, to be honest with you.
This is a game about water spoopies, and isolation in a vast ocean. I think the disempowerment works like an absolute charm.
Christopher Powell
seriously though, it's a medieval castle surely there's some swords or axes lying around
Jace Cox
>Dev. caves to pressure and includes weapons afterall. >Misguided youth shoots up aquarium.
This will be on you, Sup Forums
Evan Morales
Nice simplification of the argument, retard. I suppose you think that wanting spears and harpoons is equal to wanting underwater sonic weaponry and advanced energy weapons?
Ian Nelson
>no lethal means to defend ones self >no hunting and living like our ancestors Both of those things are in there, you dopey fuck. You didn't even play the fucking game.
You can catch fish to cook and eat, and the seamoth has a pulse-weapon upgrade that can kill the larger fish, like the Stalkers and Sand Sharks. Also I'm pretty sure the Exo-suit in the experimental build can be used to beat the shit out of the Reaper Leviathans.
Ryder Garcia
But don't animals still attack you? Is that not violence?
Jayden Hernandez
>no guns becuase guns are evil and hurt animals Ironic considering the last game of them was about space marines exterminating cute aliens
Luis Young
If you're having trouble with the creatures that are small enough to use a spear on, I've got bad news for you.
Eli Campbell
What kind of a lethal weapon have you carried that does anything to a swarm of barracudas?
Christian Green
He's a cutie though.
Adrian Moore
Fear of the sea is a real thing, I think it's called thalassophobia or something. Phobias are just that; irrational fear of things you may have rational means of defence against. No rational human being should be afraid of spiders; they are easily disposed of. Yet arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias among people.
Nicholas Sullivan
>worked for UWE during NS2 alpha to release >know the devs >hear about this SJW faggot dev
He honestly has to be new, and Charlie gets the final say with people like Brian and Max having says above everyone else but Charlie, and Max is their golden goose programmer.
Hugh is sadly an actual pisseater who thinks hes more worthwhile than even QA devs. He sits on twitter and forums and his job consists of using google. That said, he does really give a fuck about UWE a lot so hes shilling is passion shilling.
He honestly did way more work before he was hired.
But yeah, just make fun of that 1 SJW dev and realize none of the others are like that.
BTW, while I havent worked on Subnautica, im almost 100% positive having very limiting weapons was ALWAYS a thing. They talked about it a bit near the end of the NS2 release(this is before anyone even knew about it) and that was like iirc one of the major design choices from the start.
Christian Davis
I cant go into water were i cant see the ground. Its the fear of the unknown. Dosent matter if ocean or lake.
Dominic Rodriguez
They're phobias. They don't have to make logical sense and can be weirdly specific like that. That's why they're called phobias.
Sebastian Martin
NS2 is one of my favorite games and a top contender for those >pick one online game that gets resurrected into its prime threads
Robert Cook
Actually, it's the fear of large, open bodies of water. Lakes aren't(usually) big enough to elicit the same kind of feeling that being in the middle of the ocean would.
Ryder Moore
Is there a difference between strict thalassophobia (fear of the sea) and fear of large bodies of water (ie. lakes)?
Jacob Morris
I don't know much, but there is a separate word for it, so probably. It's Limnophobia.
Phobias are weird as shit, though, so you could probably find all kinds of words for very specific fears.
Luis Thompson
I'm going to make an AR-15 mod for this game when it comes out just to piss this dev off
Jason Scott
While I agree the dev's reasoning is pretty retarded but there is so many alternatives to add in weaponry. Like maybe explosive tipped harpoons? Or nuclear torpedoes? Plasma cannons? Fucking something to make the Leviathans go eat a bowl of dicks? This pussy stun baby shit is useless. There should be nothing bothering me when I get to that point I have a base with a moonpool and everything. Like it'd be awesome to hunt and kill a Sea Emperor with small nuke torpedoes.
Owen Jones
How complete is Subnautica and how much staying power does it actually have? Is it a kind of "play it once see everything" game or is there lots of replayability? I know you guys had a bunch of FOTM threads a few weeks ago but I didn't really check them out.
Jason Martin
Why does every game need hostile weapons? The tools given to you in subnaut actually make the game better, if you could sick 360 quick harpoon everything it would be shit.
Xavier Young
You don't even need weapons. Everything that's hostile can be out swam from the moment you leave the pod and once you have the sea moth you're invincible against everything. What purpose would there be to have a gun? The stasis rifle is more than enough as is.
Isaac Myers
This right here man
I remember once I was relatively near the surface above a huge drop with nothing but empty ocean on all sides my sea moth got attacked by a reaper leviathan out of nowhere. I throttle away and lose him. I get out fix it and swim around a bit thinking he is gone . He then comes back. I get back in and he damages it again to the point it is almost destroyed. This happens a couple more times. I get out then swim around in circles and try and lure him away from the seamoth. I then swim back, quickly patch it up, slash him in the face with my hot knife, get back in, and gtfo.
Sure spamming LM and blasting him to bits with a plasma rifle may of been fun but a good ol game of cat and mouse is way more satisfying.
I don't see why the dev's stupid political views should have any impact on my opinions of the game.
Justin Russell
>"Hostile" weapons There's a certain point where that fear of the unkillable big monsters wears off and turns into frustration. It's the god damn future and you can't craft explosive torpedoes or harpoons? What baby shit is this prepulsion cannon and stasis rifle? I got a base and all the materials in the world, why can't I invest it on something cool like explosive tipped harpoons and mini nuke Torpedoes to go after those fucking leviathans for giving me so much shit?
Jason Rogers
Because other people than 12 year olds play it.
Isaiah Bailey
You fucking faggot. You wanna kill shit, go play cod. Subnautica is fucking great and doesn't need to please kill frenzy kiddies like you, OP. Eat dicks.
Jordan Turner
>pacifist devs
HERE WE GOOOOOOOOOOO, again.
1. There is only one dev that acts like a faggot, and his opinions were shrugged off by the rest of the team. 2. There ARE weapons in the game, but weapons like spear guns and shit detract away from the survival aspect of the game.
How can the game be tense if I can just kill everything around me with ease?
Wyatt Cruz
Yeah, lets add a load of weapons to a horror game, that won't ruin it at all. Moron.
Oliver Miller
Subnautica isn't a horror game, but yeah I don't think there should be too much of a focus on guns in it.
Connor Jones
I got almost 20 hours out of it before getting bored, and that was with using the wiki to find a few things, so I could have probably squeezed a few more out of it if I did it completely legit.
Unless you're into exploring and scanning plants and animals, or just building elaborate underwater bases that don't serve any real purpose ala minecraft, there's not much to get out of it once you finally build your Cyclops and get your base situated in an area that you like. The gameworld is also completely static, so there's not much replayability re: the exploration.
But if you're into gathering/survival games, it's one of the best ones out right now, even as an EA game. For $20, I didn't feel like I was ripped off.
Samuel Adams
I think it's hilarious how right winger political types keep attacking this game because they can't fire AR's under water
Jackson Reed
Holy shit are Subnautica devs worse than Hello games Nu-males?
Anthony Williams
>Subnautica isn't a horror game
It sure fucking feels like one.
Nathaniel Foster
>horror game This isn't a horror game
Dominic Garcia
Not purely, but has a very strong horror element that would be destroyed with weapons.
Thomas Gray
>devs aren't allowed to make a game how they want, they need to make sure it appeals to my politics! No they don't. Don't buy the fucking game, no one cares.
Josiah Sanchez
Why is it so important for you to kill everything? I, for once, love the fact that I have to survive without weapons or guns It also wouldn't make sense storywise to have weapons
Dominic Brooks
One of the notes say the monsters can't be damaged pay attention to the story you stupid fucks.
Joseph Morris
There is literally no horror elements, it's just memers with their "deep sea so scary lul" shit
Ryder Sanders
I'm not opposed to violent games in any way, but that doesn't mean every game should feature it. Weapons would take away any challenge and the entire horror atmosphere.
Jaxon Phillips
There are no horror elements in it it's just most people are scared of the oceans.
Cameron Sanchez
"Horror is a film genre seeking to elicit a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audience's primal fears."
>Darkness >Helplessness >Predators
You want any more primal fears?
Evan Garcia
was thinking about torrenting from igg games but can my toaster pc run it, i have a generic ass pc with first gen intel graphics, i usally play newer games on low so how fucked am i
Ayden Morales
I never felt helpless or preyed on or scared. It's not a horror game, it's a building game like minecraft
Jaxson Thompson
My 380 4gb and i5-4690k can barely get 30 fps out of this and after playing one save for like 20 hours, the framerate on that save and that save only, got even worse and dropped permanently to like 5 fps
Oh, also non-stop crashing
Michael Davis
You are literally preyed on while in an environment that renders you helpless as a human being. A gun would remove both elements.
Liam Ramirez
>Devs don't want to add guns, one dev says he is motivated mostly by muh gunculture the other say it's for gameplay to feel scarier or something >Sup Forums gets triggered It's like some people are just SJW from the other end of the political spectrum. And yes you can kill shit in the game.
Hudson Miller
I agree with the devs on guns.
Blake Rivera
>game about feeling vulnerable and insignificant in the sea >why don't i get to craft a rocket launcher in the first 2 hours
kys my man
Jason Reed
>I never felt helpless or preyed on or scared. That's cool, but your experiences aren't universal. Lots of other people did, so for all intents and purposes it's a fucking horror game.
Connor Smith
It would because it caters only to retards like you, whereas the regular shit is for all the non-retards aka the majority.
Samuel Rivera
simple shit like a speargun is enough it doesn't have to be effective or work at all against the bigger creatures
Nathaniel Rodriguez
On the one hand, I disagree with them, politically.
On the other, from a gameplay standpoint, being able to just walk outside my base and just own teh n00bf15h with my 133t noscope skills would probably make the game feel a little cheap. Not that the stasis rifle and repulsion canon don't already do an effective job of just that.
Henry Ramirez
Minecraft has all of them too so I guess it's a horror game.
Jayden Ward
This literally goes in reverse, user. Everything you just said I can say in return to your own feelings on the game
Jose Rivera
I don't think you responded to the person you thought you responded to.
Colton Thomas
Reminder it has NOTHING to do with a lack of guns and everything to do with "PERCEIVED LIBERAL THOUGHTS" by the devs. No one actually cares about guns in the game, they're just mad because "WTF THE DEVS AREN'T FAR RIGHT LIKE ME?!"
Robert Sanchez
Tell you what, go get an AR-15, go about 400 meters under the ocean surface and try firing for me and tell me how that works out
Easton Hall
think of it this way user: Making nature a superfluous threat instead of a constant danger would make the experience boring quickly.
Luke Powell
Please read: It's possible to disagree politically and agree with them on a gameplay standpoint. I love the game.
But I just can't agree with their political sentiment.
Jayden Brown
So you're saying that you can kill sea creatures and OP is wasting everybody's time?
Cameron Parker
Underwater APS. Experimental kinda gun, but, then again, those slavs had all sorts of weird guns.
Aaron Taylor
Survival mode has elements of it, definitely. The graphics just make it hard to take seriously.
Ryder Moore
You could also think of it as giving the player a false sense of security by giving them a weapon that is not effective at all against the actual threats
Anthony King
That's not what these dimwits are asking for though.
Isaac Myers
So you actually believe the people complaining about the lack of guns and calling the devs liberal pussies are legitimately upset they can't play underwater COD and not because of the devs reasons.
There would be zero issue if the dev didn't mention sandy hook. No one would complain if it wasn't political.
