Because English, always ends up sounding atrocious and cringy, it's better if I don't understand it.
Because there are subtitles? Is this thread serious?
I hate Troy Baker, Steve Blum etc.
I dunno what you're talk about, user.
Why don't you faggots give people shit for playing games like the Witcher or STALKER in their native languages?
>That guy who selects female gender in his video games
Why are you doing this? You're a guy.
This only happens in very, VERY niche weebshit games (which are probably what you play). Any kind of big budget Japanese game usually has a great dub.
Because english isn't my first language so I have no reason for keeping english voices in games.
>mexiIard detected
Because I always selected english when I was a kid and now I can speak english
I do it for Guile in Street Fighter, because he still says English shit. And I like SUMMASALT better than FLASHKICK
English isn't my first language anyways and most dubs aren't very good
>that guy who always plays Necromancer/Warlock in any RPG
But I do. It weirds me out that some dubfags treat learning Japanese as some insurmountable task.
Because the characters never look like japs anyway
>there are only 2 languages in the world
american education, everyone
That doesn't make any fucking sense in this argument. We're talking about people playing a game that ISN'T in their native language. Your post would've made sense if it said something against English players of those games.
oh my fuck
I do know moon so I don't even have to deal with the english dub, or any localization, if I don't want to.
Well, there would be at least a third, Japanese. Might want to learn basic math while we're splitting hairs and feeding trolls.
but i do know when english is annoying
>guy who doesn't invert camera Y-axis on controller
Bugs me when people thing learning japanese because you play a lot of JRPGs is an absolute must and playing the game dubbed is an unforgivable sin akin to burning the game at a stake and shitting on it's grave.
In summary, I fucking hate weebs.
But I do, what now?
Because I'm playing a Ninja
Jesus Christ
I didn't make a proper distinction, my bad. I meant people who play those games choosing to play it in their original languages, like Polish, despite the player not knowing a lick of it themselves.
Because English is not my first language and the voices sound cooler in Japanese.
Looks like kid Hugh Jackman.
I watch my movies in their native languages and It's the same for video games.
Because that how the director and creators want it to be. Dubs are for kids and lazy mediocre people.
The 90's were a long time ago user. English VOs have gotten better, post something more up-to-date.
Kill yourself this is an American website.
Fuck you faggot I do what I want.
Because every time I do, it makes you mad.
And that's funny as shit.
I always play a Fighter but when I can play a Necromancer I'll pick that instantly over fighter.
Something so satisfying about resurrecting skeletons and bewitching people, it's just a preferred play style compared to "cast Fireball, cast Icebolt".
>Because that how the director and creators want it to be.
what the fuck
make me, oh wait you can't
What faggot does this? I don't know about you but I don't tilt my head forward to look down.
I prefer Japanese audio because I can't understand it. When it's English, I can hear all the imperfections and it's bothersome. Or, if there are repeated lines of dialogue, the sound clips will quickly become annoying. With Japanese, since I can't understand it, the clips don't get stuck in your head and they are more bearable.
right you are, Ken
Japanese audio is weird. No matter what game, or what media...they use the same voice for the same personality.
It's stock audio.
If you don't believe me, go youtube a few cutscenes with Japanese audio, and by the second one you'll be able to pinpoint every character.
>You don't know Japanese.
i think both know who doesnt know any japanese
I don't select it, it's just the default option in most of the games I play.
Hope you weebs who will never amount to anything enjoy waiting 5 months for Persona.
何言ってんの?
この美しい俺様に、日本語は簡単だぞ!
>You don't know Japanese.
But I do
The main reasons to select JP over English dub
The way Japanese acting is, everything is supposed to be exaggerated and it flows a different way than English/Western acting. So a dub will usually sound awkward unless the director behind the dub knows what's he's doing and localizes it into something that makes sense. Which is why there is usually a lot of dialogue changes in the process.
Usually most directors for dubs are absolute trash because they typically hire the bottom of the barrel to do the minimum work necessary which is why people hate dubs in games and anime.
The second problem is the fact that video game actors/actresses are the bottom of the barrel most of the time as well. So you end up with a small pool of talented people and a large pool of theater students trying to get a paycheck. So when you combine that with the fact that the director is most likely going to be there to just get a paycheck as well it just ends up shitty.
You can easily compare and notice which dubs have good direction and knows how to localize dialogue to actually fit the narrative versus dubs that try to imitate the japanese and have shit direction.
I'm a person that prefers the native language of the game/movie/show anyway. If it's a french thing, I'll watch in french. If it's german I'll watch in german and etc.
Yes I do...
If you don't hear enough of a language, everyone sounds the same. When you get to the point where you hear and understand at least some of the language you can differently see they're not using the same "voice".
this is only acceptable whe you are playing a flying game, otherwise you are just pretending you are playing a flying game
>select French audio
>part where asshole bad guy laughs is replaced by airy, posh chortling
I tried to play the Witcher in filthy Polak for MAXIMUM SLAVIC IMMERSION but I found it too difficult to read the subtitles during gameplay.
With Jap games I cannot stand Japanese voice acting. There's too much random gasping and uguuu~ bullshit and they only have 4 voice actors in the entire country. I was okay with Yakuza since it's a fairly realistic depiction of Japan but anything else is a no.
>That guy who cares what other people do in a single player video game
Why are you doing this? You must be autistic.
What's your opinion on Japanese games that ONLY have English voices?
Japanese audio sounds better.
English subtitles for understanding.
I see no problem here.
>That guy that doesn't just let people pick their own audio choice for a game
I'm not even sure it's that though. I hear differently languages constantly. Mainly Russian, Spanish, Japanese, and Finnish. There's a little French through in too from time to time, and Japanese is the only one I notice it with. I've even taken some classes in Japanese for shit and giggles when I was dicking around in college. None of the others have that issue. I swear it's because the Japanese go hard for the archetypes.
>but I found it too difficult to read the subtitles during gameplay
average burgerlard
Whatever the medium, I always prefer the original audio, with subtitles in a language I understand if necessary. If it's a movie/game originally in english, I'll prefer the english audio. if it's japanese/spanish/french/italian/whatever the fuck then i'll prefer that audio.
There is simply almost always some loss of quality in dubbing, and while there ARE examples of dubs better than their original counterparts, they're in the minority.
I'm a maplenigger and the problem is the subs are tiny and when I'm in frenetic combat or the janky horse controls its too much.
it's just the Sup Forumsutistic newfags who think there's some artistic integrity to be upheld when using nip va. there's not. this type of thing only applies in film where dubbed over voices can compromise the integrity of the film. there are exceptions like the dollars movies though
If it's an older game I just deal with it unless it's really really awful. I honestly feel modern games have no excuse with not giving a dual audio option nowadays so unless it's something I really want to play(Looking at you Persona 5), I won't buy it on release.
To be honest most companies nowadays that bring these games over know their audience(Except maybe the US division of Atlus) so I don't have that problem where a game is dub only anymore unless it's on a rare occasion. Most of the time you're more likely to run into a jp only localization unless it's a bigger game
This.
I don't know why but hearing Guile in Jap, I just refuse to change him back.
Japanese voices make me cum
This.
The only exception is Shakespearean DmC which is to be played in Spanish.
English voice acting does not have a high budget, is not seen very highly, has a poor talentbase.
English in vidya is silly because what you feel you hear with japanese is literal in english, and makes stock jap voices sound unique.
Sorry I meant games like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dead Rising, etc where there actually is no Japanese voices at all even in the JP version despite being a Jap game.
If a game is about Japanese people, I'd like to hear them speaking Japanese. Just makes sense.
For example: Fatal Frame 5. English dub was atrocious.
I think English works better than Japanese in EDF, mostly due to some of the inane shit they can say and strange accents thrown in. The Japs just sound like they were cast for the wrong role.
No they don't. Even big budget titles outsource their dub to some fucking shitass dub-mill studio who will rush it out asap using the same five cheapo VA's every time. The Japs don't give one single shit how the English dub sounds.
Good dubs do exist, but they're an extreme rarity. People also have really low standards. I don't even like Cowboy Bebop's fucking dub, and it's usually cited as great.
I don't know Japanese, but I can sure as hell tell when an English VA sucks huge dicks.
Sometimes I don't feel like hearing Yuri Lowenthals voice for the dozenth time
There is effectively no difference to playing a game with no voice audio at all, and playing it with voice audio you can't understand. Without audio, your brain just fills in the gaps and makes up the voices anyway.
The idea that dub work is intrinsically bad holds absolutely no merit when you're also relying on the exact same dub script to play the game in English, but somehow that's fine, even though the loss of quality and meaning from translation work is orders of magnitude worse than a terrible dub you can disable in 2 seconds.
Oh well, usually those games are written differently and have their dialogue written differently as well so it's not really comparable to a game that has it's original dialogue written and acted in Japanese. The thing about those games is sometimes dialogue will come off as stilted in some instances because it's a Japanese writer writing for an english/american actor. It's like how some songs are in english but written by a japanese person sound a little weird lyrically. But otherwise it's usually fine.
The dub and sub scripts are typically different though. I know in some games like Drakengard they use the dubtitles because it's supposed to match the dub dialogue but when talking about other media the dub and sub script are different.
>Oh well, usually those games are written differently and have their dialogue written differently as well
Sorry man, you don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about. They were all written the exact same way as any other game, and then passed over to a translation team to fill in the audio.
>play game, don't understand shit, can focus on gameplay
Vs
>listening to Yuri Lowenthal 'performance' taking me out of the experience in literally every single game
You tell me, OP
>you shouldn't pick original audio if you don't know the language
>but at the same time you shouldn't learn the language because anything but shitposting is a waste of valuable time somehow
You can't win with these people. They don't want to read under any circumstance, and will do anything to make the way they do things appear as the most valid, reasonable way. At the same time, they'll put down people's genuine attempts at learning a new language as a huge waste of time because there are statistically more profitable languages to learn for applications in business, even though the people saying this are on fucking Sup Forums doing jack shit anyway.
So, you know what, OP? You're right. I'll just have to fucking learn moon speak so that I can play/watch in original audio and not have to read subs. You have trolled me into learning a fucking language. I hope you're goddamned happy.
B-BUT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!! IT'S BECAUSE THE CHARACTERS ARE JAPANESE!!
We're talking about video games here, you dumb faggot. I've never even seen a game that had a separate subtitle track just for the weeb voice option, it'd literally be doubling your work for no reason.
i dont
i realized jap va was overrated since they get the same typecasted actors who do the same phoned in performances every gat-dang time
Me on the top
But I know Japanese.
>playing Metro and STALKER in russian
That was an interesting experience
how much time you waste learning it, weeb?
Because I'm not american and I can't stand your accent
4 years and 1 month as of right now
about as much time as you spend shitposting senpai.
>accent
>when he's the one with the 'bloody' accent
Fucking brits and their prison bitches man
>waste
As long as you don't get in a car accident tomorrow, you'll pretty much always be ahead in terms of time invested for time enjoyed. And after a few years, the investment trickles down to almost nothing, and you're free to watch, read, and play anything you want for the next 70 odd years or so until you die.
>how much time you waste
Compared to what? Chasing girls? Learning the piano?
At least he did literally something, you basement NEET.
Because hearing jp VA's shout things out in poor engrish is way more fun then hearing english VA's shouting shit in poorly spoken japanese.
of which one?
So for a four year investment, how fluent are you? Can you carry on conversation? Does more "poetic" style, prose-y language in Jap media make sense?
stfu losre
>That guy who always makes a Guts build his first time playing any rpg
I'm fluent. I've been living in Japan for 2 of those years though. That said I was still pretty fluent when I first came here, but then again I was grinding words and kanji really hard in the beginning so that paid off I suppose. I don't actively study anymore, just read and watch stuff.
