That image says enough. Compare it to the original art, vibrant, loud, powerful. Now look at the edit for WT, heavily desaturated almost sad even as the scene depicts heavy grays, life without colour is depression and that is what this image is screaming. The blood spewing from the alien also colourless, as not to offend the sensitive.

However, this doesn't excuse the fact that they've taken every purchasable version of DN3D, even 3D Realms' original (although not sure about PSVita or 360 versions), just so they can solely profit on the Duke now. There's no Duke games on Steam at all besides Forever and this shit.

I'm kind of torn on this, would love to have a version of this that can run on a modern PC at modern resolution without DOSBOX or fan ports/mods but at the same time I don't want to support gearbox.

Have you PLAYED the expansions? They're so-so. The only one of any redeemed quality is the beach one, because of the new graphics. The other two reeked of user map quality. Just saiyan.
What are the chances that someone would be able to extract this new episode and make it playable with the megaton version?

They probably shut down all the old Duke games besides 3D so that 3D Realms wouldn't get any more money for the games, period. Like a fucking tantrum fit where once they realized what they could do with the rights, they promptly took an unholy dump over everything 3D Realms made to deny them further profits for their efforts as a personal revenge for the court battle over the Duke rights.
If the new Duke uses the same engine etc. shouldn't it be possible to play the new episode on eDuke32? Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition was compatible with eDuke as well.

theoretically. they have the original engine as well as their new butchered rip of polymer, and claims state that they used the original mapster to get the work done for the new maps
but i wouldn't be surprised if they put some DRM or fucked with the engine and it makes it harder than it should be
If that's the case, someone from the community is surely going to recreate the levels to the smallest detail with all the new voice acting etc.

Yes, when games like this are removed from steam for legal factors, the download still remains on their servers.
Wolfenstein 2009 probably still exists on Steam servers too despite that game no longer being for resale.

I think there's been only one or two instances of a non-MMO game being completely removed from players' accounts, rendering it impossible to re-download after de-listing, and those were games that were horribly busted. There are people out there capable of downloading and re-downloading Outrun 2006, Mickey's Castle of Illusion, and Wolfenstein 2009 over and over again to their heart's content. Just not you. Maybe.
