Was the combat really that bad? I played this game twice, once on normal and once on death march, and had no problems with the combat at all. In fact, I actually had fun with the combat, and once you unlock the spinny move, it's glorious to turn fools into a blood tornado.

If you want to hate this game, hate it for the
>retarded crafting
>ugly armours (except witcher gear)
>weird alchemy
>terrible skill tree with abilities you never need or use
>terrible framerate and performance issues
>20 fucking gigs of patches
>countless glitches
>broken quests
>same five npc faces and voice actors in the entire game
>question marks that add nothing to the game and are completely useless (just turn them off if you ever play this. you won't miss out on anything)
>bloated first act
>novigrad is by far the least interesting location
>horse movement is below average, which is unacceptable given how much time you spend riding your horse. should have been rdr level.
>sub par story that goes on way too long for you to care

Tbh, I'd say the combat is actually one of the strengths of this game.

>it's a contrarian cunt tries to shit on an objectively well made game because many people enjoy it episode

>question marks that add nothing to the game and are completely useless (just turn them off if you ever play this. you won't miss out on anything)
Couldn't agree more.

>novigrad is by far the least interesting location
The place has some good character, and the siexe of the place should be the benchmark of RPG cities. I rather liked my time there, honestly.
That said, more life and quests were needed, each district with its own content stepped up etc. Velen and Skellige could get away with having large areas of semi-empty wilderness, while Novigrad as the centre of culture in the North, had to not only be big, but feel big as well.

>same five npc faces and voice actors in the entire game

I think you were supposed to put a picture of a Bethesda game there.

Isn't there that enhances edition mod that 'fixes' the combat?

I literally discovered parrying in the shadows fight during HoS, cause I never had to parry in a single fight before that. The last fight of the main game is literally just "roll, hit 3 times" and the boss before that was "dodge, hit 3 times".

The only fight I ever had a problem with (or would have had a problem with) was the vampire fight at the end of BnW but I was so suped up on a billion and a half potions that I just spammed my way out of that fight.

If you really want to be lenient and not say that just macroing a left click repeater was an easy way to get through the entirety of death march, then i'll add that Aard + Execute deals with 90% of the game and the other 10% is killed with Igni.

TW1 and 2 both had a mod for that. And then CDPR actually went and hired the guy who did both to be part of the team in charge of TW3's combat, I think.

>terrible framerate and performance issues

Where? It's excellently optimised on PC

No, the combat is pretty bad
It feels like a placeholder, alpha concept. No enemy moveset bar some of the DLC bosses (barely) require any thought and they're so generic and similar that you can basically lump them all into the following 6 same ones
>human
>wraith (only good one)
>monster
>large humanoid monster
>large quadriped monster
>dogs

Nah, it's just that it plays like a CRPG, which plebs on consoles can't into.

all solid points except for the "bloated first arc"

The first arc and the entire Bloody Baron storyline is fantastic. It's when you compare it to the extremely flimsy second and third act where it can be called anything close to bloated. I wish the rest of the game was as bloated.

What about the Ifrit?

>Ugly armors other than switcher gear
>Not wearing the Redanian grenadier surcoat

I think a problem is you unlock a lot of quests too early, even when you're way under leveled. Having something there on the list that you have to stare at for the entire game before you're strong enough to do it takes the fun out of it. They should have some of the quests not unlock until you hit a certain level, or get rid of the post boards and actually have you talk to people to start contracts.

But consolefags are the only ones with Monster Hunter and most of the good Souls games
Seems to me PCfriends excuse W3's gameplay because they don't have any better CRPGs to compare it to

>retarded crafting
It's no worse than other series that use crafting.
>ugly armours
Very subjective. I found most of the armours appealing.
>weird alchemy
How was it weird? What standard are you setting this to?
>terrible skill tree...
It wasn't particularly bad. The issue was that you could find a few skills that fit your playstyle and never switch or grow from them the entire game.
>terrible framerate...
I never had issues with this, it might be your hardware.
>20 gigs of patches
Considering the polish of the game at release compared to it's competitors (Skyrim, etc), 20 gigs is a lot of detail to fix. At least they're putting in the effort.
>Countless glitches
Again, I had no problem with this, but also again, compared to it's competitors, it didn't have that many.
>broken quests
Which ones? I've completed almost all of them and I haven't encountered a single broken one.
>same five npc faces
Yeah, what this user said.
>question marks that add nothing to the game
Agreed completely. They're entirely missable and you won't lose anything on a firstime playthrough by leaving them.
>bloated first act
The acts could have had better pacing, this is true, but cutting down the first act is not the direction. I would have suggested expanding the later acts, instead.
>novigrad is by far the least
Again, debatable and subjective.
>horse movement is below average, should have been rdr level
I found it to be on RDR level, honestly. I don't see what the problem was with it. Expand on why it was below average, please.
>sub par story
The main story definitely wasn't the best of the questlines within the game, but it was miles better than most games today. The sidequests were even better. I'd say the story is one of, if not the strongest aspect.

I don't know how you found combat to be a strength of the game, though. Everything leading up to combat was fun, but the combat itself boiled down to rolling and swinging or spamming a sign, which is pure cheese.

x x x x x x x x x x x x x x y x x x x x x x x x y
I love the combat
please dumb down and retard my shit up until i drool

Souls game and monster hunter plays nothing like CRPG's. In regular action games, you press attack and the character attacks in place. If you're too far, you miss. Positioning becomes an integral part of combat. In CRPG, because it's usually played with a mouse and keyboard, you click an enemy to attack. If you're too far, the character will move towards the enemy before engaging in attacks. Not only that, he will pretty much auto attack until the monster dies. Witcher 3 plays like a CRPG because when you press attack, Geralt lunges towards the monster before he attacks. This gets on people who are used to console games nerves because it feels like you don't have precise control over the character.

It's not bad at all.

It's a dumb meme.

The combat mechanics are good. I have some issues that there aren't any good boss fights and the balancing is not quite right as the game becomes easier and easier as you unlock new perks, potions bombs.

But the base mechanics are solid af

>Was the combat really that bad?
It's shit. Literally a one button combat system worse than the one in fucking Bamham games.

The combat mechanics aren't /bad/, they're just not great. They could have been expanded on a lot more than lateral buffs to weapon and signs, and they can be dumbed down to rolling and swinging your sword, which shouldn't ever happen.

This
>no badass one on one fight against human opponents who are just as good as you
>have to dodge bombs and watch out for oil buffs
>have to watch out for signs
>have to watch out for arrows
Missed opportunity

But they are expanded as you continue playing.

You can unlock new attacks from the skill tree, new spells , new bombs , some potions, and crossnbow that change the way the game is played

The expansions looks like they add more stuff , but I'm on my first playtrough so Im not p to that point yet

There are those kinds of fights but they're rare and optional , like cat school Witchers who have the same moveset and spells as you

You're actually both wrong, CRPGs are the pen-and-payer style games like Neverwinter Nights and Fallout 1/2
>a CRPG is just an action RPG except with autolockon!
Kek, no
Witcher 3 is just a really bad ARPG, with shallow as fuck gameplay and character building elements

No, those are pen-and-paper style RPGs. You just said it yourself.

Ps4 mah nigga

>it's no worse than other series
that doesn't make it not retarded and it is arguably worse than others when you literally dont use it for anything but witcher armor
>find a few skills
the problem with the skill tree is that every build played functionally the same, even a heavy sign build required you to mainly left click things to death
>countless glitches
most are in regards to the skill tree which you won't notice but the alchemy tree was bugged for a huge amount of time and I believe Euphoria is still currently glitched
>RDR level horse movement
RDR had excellent horse movement, way way better than this but thats to be expected since you use horses way more in RDR

Think what you want pleb, but if you google what a CRPG is it definitely won't come up with 'ARPG with dumbed down gameplay'

A CRPG is literally a computer role playing game, so we're both right. But I'm a little bit more right.

The game is fun as fuck to play and the mechanics are pretty tight.

Fuck the haters

a game can be fun for more reasons than its combat

a great game can still have shit parts

>the combat is actually one of the strengths of this game.

Yeah that's how bad of a game it is.

When I said fun as fuck I mean the combat

Only not fun enemies for me are wolves and bears, otherwise i like fighting everything

CRPG
Acronym: Computer Role Playing Game

Adaptation of the pen and paper RPG to the Computer. The first two major CRPGs were Ultima and Wizardry

Why would anyone hate it for actually being supported after release with those 20 gigs of patches that were full of new content and fixes, which is something most games this ambitious need after launch whether they get it or not.

Yeah, I think it would've been better if
>food can only be used outside of battles
>potions can be crafted and used during battle
>refilling potions and bombs require different materials for each one and not just alcohol for all
>weapons degrade faster but you can repair them using spare parts
>sub menu from meditation where you can choose to repair or refill items or just straight meditate
Or something like that. Making things too easy isn't fun. Isn't it kind of weird that fun comes from having some kind of limitation?

It doesn't have the D&D character creation or anything but if you don't think that the game plays like a cinematic third person CRPG hybrid of genres than I doubt you know what you are talking about.

They are expanded upon, but not in the right way. Making your heavy swing a core attack doesn't change the fact that you're just swinging your sword. Getting a spin move again doesn't change the combat. You're just waiting for a chance to attack, getting close, attacking, and then waiting to attack again. This is alleviated in regular trash mob fights as you can use signs (in a limited regard) to affect the flow of the fight, but against bosses it is cut down into this simple flowchart.

>urban dictionary

Nice flowchart, senpai

> Not going a sign-focused build
> Not getting 360% sign intensity with Grandmaster Griffin armor
> Not dual-casting
> Not making yrden traps that spawn more yrden traps ad infinitum
> Not running Magic Sensibilities mutation for 65% crit chance to do 430% more damage in addition to literally exploding enemies from the pure destructive force

Why do you even bother asking anything here?

If subhumans see shitpost they will join in.
If subhumans see praise their contrarian alarm will flare up and they will shitpost just to feel special.

If you want real discussion go to Reddit or something.
Sup Forums is a shitposting board for subhumans to feel like they belong somewhere.

How does le good combat in le dark souls change when you're fighting bosses? You're circling your shield going arround the enemies waiting for an oppening .

Fuck off

Olgierd von Everec on NG+ death march was an absolute nightmare, you cant block ANYTHING, every blow from him is an instant death

>people are telling me with a straight face that the combat is bad

Before I played it I feared it would be something like morrowind.

But this was great for what it was, it was better than assassins creed games while having something other than humans for enemies.

Assassins Creed and Bamham are too automatted, this has the same flow only you're actually dodging and parrying, it's not some automated one button bullshit, you're in control.

Sure, the invincibility frames and parry frimes are wider than Dark Souls, but it's still good combat system.

isn't that Sup Forums every day user? you summed it up pretty well

No stamina management in Witcher 3, for example. Too much I-frames on dodges, no real range options

>same five npc faces and voices in the entire game

silly user, you are not playing Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout 3/Fallout 4! but i get you, totally agree on your observation.
