Why do people hate DK64 over SM64?

Why do people hate DK64 over SM64?

DK64
>same bullshit collection objective
>same multiple run through of levels
>has actual bosses
>has multiplayer
>lot more comical
>minigames

Do I need to list more?

DK64 was just a poor man's Banjo.

>Do I need to list more?

Yes.

I don't get it either, it's a good game.

because it needs an expansion pack and my mum brought the game for me at christmas, but brought one without one. I'm glad nintendo moved past restricting there games

because DK64 is a shittier, much glitcher BK and BK was already a much slower Mario 64

All of DK's mini games were fucking trash

Because SM64 doesn't have arbitrary collectables assigned to five different characters.

Also Mario 64 actually has platforming in it, whereas DK64 is just empty areas full of shit.

You got that backwards friendo

Banjo came out before DK64 enemyo.

Shittier camera

That has nothing to do with it, DK64 is a more expansive and rewarding experience.

>pic related trash

Did any of you ever even finish DK64? I remember playing it a ton when I was younger but not actually finishing the game ever.

>DK64 doesn't have platforming

dk has a lot of content

mario has more replay value / better gameplay

DK64 is ableist as FUCK and i can hardly play it due to my colorblindness.

DK64's physics suck limp chode

>mini games listed as a positive
BEAVER
O
T
H
E
R

I think we can conclude that the actual reasons for the hatred are twofold:

1: Dumb salty poorfags
2: Casuals complaining about 'muh unnecessary collectables' when really they were just too casual.

DK64 doesn't have scuttlebugs

I've finished it at least twice, it was my favorite 64 game.

>minigame involving chasing beavers around
>bad

This is why you're forever a virgin

Mario 64 plays like a retarded Banjo Kazooie.

>the "Mario 64 is a sandbox collectathon" meme

the stars are goalposts, they aren't the focal point of the game. rare never got this so DK64 and both banjo games are shit

this
rare 3D platformers are trash

kek

>the stars are goalposts
>collect 8 red coins
>goal post
>collect 100 coins
>goal post

Nigger are you defending Beaver Bother?
Anyway, they are both good, SM64 has better gameplay and controls, but DK64 has much more character and variety. Play them both.

...

Less levels with worse level design.

Well good news, the bananas are just goalposts too! I can arbitrarily rename things to my liking too you retard

but DK64 was packaged with the expansion pack

Conker was better

Most of the 8 red coin stars have them in some sort of central location and use them more as a platforming puzzle.

The ones that aren't though and all the 100 coins aren't goal posts, but even so that is far less of the games content than DK64's.

>I'm glad nintendo moved past restricting there games

This has to be bait

A He is a He. You can't say it has style or grace.

I like DK64, but it's a collectathon gone nuts.

You still have to revisit the area twice, your image is only a 33% improvement.

>You can still hear the laugh to this day

Things you need to collect in SM64:
>stars
>coins
>red coins

Things you need to collect in DK64:
>golden bananas
>bananas
>banana coins
>banana medals
>banana film
>blueprints
>oranges
>crystal coconuts
>weapon ammo separate for each Kong

I've tried twice, once when I was 10, the other when I was 20. The first time the canon on the small island didn't spawn, so I couldn't progress. The second time the interior of the first level past the canon glitched and I couldn't get the banana. Never touching the game again unless it's a 1080 UHD remaster

Okay let's lay this out on the table.
BK>SM64>DK64>BT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Conker (if your twelve otherwise don't even play it)

I hate DK64 but I'm amazed no one knows you can just fucking trip kick his ass at the start and he'll never catch up.

Sm64 barely qualifies as a collectathon

You forgot battle crowns and the Rare and N64 coins.

no it is

Nothing made by Rare was actually ever that good outside of maybe Goldeneye but with todays standers it becomes almost unplayable.

it sucks, plays like ass

No

Donkey Kong games have always, always been shit and only idiots with low IQ like them

Mario isn't quite as shit but still babby tier

This pretty much. Hugely overrated.

Both Banjo games are still top 5 best 3D platformers.

Though it's been a dead genre for years now.

>Both Banjo games are still top 5 best 3D collectathons.

Fixed

>the joke

>your head

I enjoyed it, but compared to all the other 3D games, DK64 felt empty as fuck. Most of the time it's felt like i was playing a beta and the atmosphere was just spooky as shit.

I rented the game so i finished it on a emulator instead some years after

Honestly, I had more fun playing Jetpac and DK than I did the entire rest of DK64.

Say what you will about DK64, you can't deny it had the best boss battles of any 3D platformer/collectathon in its era.

I did this at the last section where the finish line was and it was like tasting peach cobbler for the first time.

>fighting k rools toes

Footfags aside that was pretty creative

>Mario
>walk
>run
>crouch
>crawl
>punch
>kick
>dive
>jump kick
>jump
>double jump
>triple jump
>back flip
>side flip
>wall kick
>long jump
>slide tackle
>ground pound
>all easily chained into each other, preserved semi realistic momentum

>DK
>walk
>jump
>attack
>jump attack
>long jump
>back flip
>crouch
>roll (dk/tiny only)
>highly divided and binary movements, significant ly less preservation of momentum, one walk speed with little acceleration

One is the best 3D platformer ever made one isn't.

But DK had guns.

yeah I beat DK64 when I played it for the first time a few years ago. Didn't 100% because that's insane

For the most part I guess you're right. The final boss took way too long though, you should've at least been able to skip the cutscenes. Dying on the final part because the timing is weird and having to do the whole thing over again sucked. Also, I remember the lighting in the boss rooms being very distracting

DK64 had more interesting levels, animal transformations, multiplayer, better bosses and better music.

>you should've at least been able to skip the cutscenes
What the fuck?! Why would you ever want to?

>What the fuck?! Why would you ever want to?
Because it's a 20 minute long boss fight and I don't want to watch them twice when I died on the last hit of Chunky's phase

But weapon ammo is shared between kongs despite their projectiles being different.

@350830459
>tfw no one replies to your perfectly good bait

HE

BUT

CUMS

great feedback

I wouldn't necessarily say that. At first I wanted to agree with you, but when I thought about it, it really just has more padding.
Yeah, it's technically "bigger," in that it has more stuff crammed into it, but it almost feels like it's too much and sours it.
25 golden bananas per level, 500 bananas, all only available 1/5 at a time?
The fairies and the tokens and blueprints, it just feels like over kill.

Banjo Kazooie 1 felt like a much more reasonable game with really only having jiggies, jinjos, and then the occasional book page or something.

>levels
It's areas are way too big for what it's trying to do. And having to do them multiple times with each character was annoying.
>animal transformations
I personally hated most of them. They never really controlled all that well in my eyes
>multiplayer
Never really cared about multiplayer personally.
>better bosses
Yeah but honestly some of those fights just go on way too long.
>and better music
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

The animal transformations are used in literally four parts of the game.

Post one SM64 soundtrack that's better than all of the soundtracks in DK64.

And they're still more satisfying to use than any of the powerups in SM64 except maybe the winged cap.

Are you seriously saying anything in DK64 is better than SM64 soundtrack? Really?

I can post anything and you will most likely say "naw it's shit"

Not necessarily. I have the ability to objectively judge music.

Go ahead, post.

SM64 isn't really groundbreaking. Memorable, but nothing entirely special. DK64 in spite of its Banjo-esque feel has much more variety and flair to it, typical of the Banjo games.

Slider alone is better than any of dk64s nonsense.

It was groundbreaking for it's time tho. Personally I love collectathons, and I loved both of these games, though oddly I never owned banjo Kazooie.

>what is perfect dark

What?! Out of all the choices you could have picked in SM64 as your argument, you picked slider music?! Dude, at least pick one of the bowser levels or at LEAST Shifting Sand Land.

I meant the music, not the game. Sorry.

I take it you haven't played DKC2? That shit was fantastic. Controls were amazing and it has great music too.

Shit.

Donkey Kong Country 2 is probably the greatest 2D platformer of all time.
Second after that would be Tropical Freeze, Rayman Origins or SMB3.

Hi, epic PC gamer.

worse framerate.

THIS KONG

Are you seriously comparing Mario's 6 stars and 100 coins per level with DK64's 25 golden bananas, 500 regular bananas and a fuckload of other collectibles, all colour coded so only one out of five characters can collect them?

That's a fucking QTE, not platforming. How can you be this stupid.

I liked banjo kazooie alot more than banjo tooie. Banjo tooie felt too big. Lots of empty space to run through in the levels. The gruntilda fight wasn't nearly as cool either. I mean putting a quiz in the middle of a fight? Really?

>m-muh framerate

Fuck off memelord.

This user gets it. I personally think Super Mario 64 was a better platformer than all the 3D Rare ones, although I still enjoyed them all, but nothing can touch Donkey Kong Country 2 for 2D platformers.

The best thing is, DKC2 still holds up well (control wise) today, unlike many older platformers.

>le epic pc gamer face XD
Sorry, forgot my reaction image.

What said, but on top of that, you usually had enough stars to move on to the next stage and do the more interesting stars.

Used to be a time where I enjoyed DK64 over Mario. I think people hate it because there are too many collectibles. Also, some people complain specifically about revisiting levels later on, when you unlock other monkeys. There is a lot of revisiting places. Some don't like that.

DK64 has more content, a better developed world, and more interesting bosses. To some it gets overwhelming.
Mario just feels like a training parcours, developed on a computer. None of it's worlds feel alive. But nowadays I prefer M64. If just for the fact they give you all abilities right up the bat.
On the other hand, I don't care about plattformers anymore.

>banana medals, crowns, and the Nintendo and Rare coins literally do the same thing

Why is this allowed?

MARIO 64 OCCASIONALLY DROPS TO 29 FPS

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

GARBAGEGARBAGEGARBAGEGARBAGEGARBAGE

This.

I agree that Rare is vastly overrated. Hell, I even think the DKC trilogy is overall overrated.

But DKC2, in particular, is just pure fucking gold. One of the best games ever made.

I don't get why people think a game being a "collectathon" is a bad thing.

DK64 went a little bit overboard with it though.

The boss battles in DK64 were terrible.

1. No they weren't.
2. Compared to the SM64 bosses? No they weren't.
