The entire plot to MW2 exists to create as much marketing hype/controversy as possible, from the airport massacre to the invasion of America, and to the brief segment as an astronaut so they could keep pace with 4:MW in the number of player characters killed and show off how the game would have a space segment (which unlike today with all the people complaining about sci-fi, this was a novelty in Call of Duty).
