it wont

Directly proportional to how badly they're fucking up the paper mario series.

Nintendo deserves it.

It's literally impossible for it to break a million sales

Not bad enough.

Not as bad as it deserves to.

Tripfag is right for once.

This.

Somewhere between Federation Force and Kirby Rainbow Curse

Enough that we will NEVER EVER get another Paper Mario game ever again.

Thank fuck.

They'll just port it to the 3DS to make up the losses, watch.

Why are they doing such weird shit to paper mario? Why do they hate him so much?

Because "We can't have two Mario RPG series".

>The old Paper Mario games, they were obviously RPGs and had a lot of good elements, but they weren't just about the RPG elements. They were full of solving puzzles, solving mysteries, the color factor, the visual style. For the Paper Mario series, we're focusing more on those elements — the puzzle-solving.

>So, one thing we thought, so, the basic Toad is red, and if they have something different about them, we'll change the color. And of course, a lot of the personality comes out in text. And so, you can also use the fact that they all look alike as the basis for jokes.

>I think people will progress in the story, they'll see, it's a lot deeper, and I hope people feel really close to Huey [Mario's companion character in this game] and think, "Man, Huey's a real good guy." I hope they get a lot out of the story.
This.

Because they are trying to appeal to the new generation of kids user you are no longer their target audience

If that were true they'd make paper mario for the smartphone.

Don't give them ideas.

Paper Jam seemed conceptually cool, anyway.

>We wanna seperate Paper Mario from M&L
>That's why we're copying the M&L's emphasis on zany gags, quirky over-the-top levels, and super long attack cutscenes

Why are these people so fucking stupid?

I watched the trailer. What is wrong with the game? It looks like a fun game for kids.

somebody get the giant chart

>On the other hand, the Mario & Luigi RPG series is created more in a 2D space. And obviously, because we have this fully realized 3D world in the Paper Mario games, we're able to have much more dynamic events
>meanwhile M&L has gone 3D while still using a stylized sprite style

This bitch just dances around all the hard questions

it will not

Every single Wii U game has flopped because the console itself is a flop.

Nintendo is one of those game companies that actually really could use a leak or two of what the big wigs are saying behind closed doors. There is no fucking way they're as full of rainbows and sunshines as they're letting on with all these weird spin offs.

this.
People always buy Mario games, even shitty ones. Ultra Smash and MP10 sold half a million and one and a half a million respectively.

She most certainly does not.

Paper Jam sold like 400k, despite being hyped up and on the 3DS.

This game will be one of Mario's biggest flops

It won't.

you guys should rejoice. you don't have a Wii U anyway so if the game was good, you'd be sad about not being able to play it

Nintendo always thinks of you guys first!

I don't really see it bombing, but on the other hand, I don't really see it making much of a splash

you ignore the power of "no games".
Wii U owners are really desperate for something. I can tell you because I'm one.

>Wii U owners are really desperate for something
is that why every title that isn't splatoon bombs

do you people just own a Wii U and nothing else?

Hey I read about you!

Just like #FE and Starfox, right?

It objectively will

10

This.
I own a Wii U, and I don't think there's been a good game since Splatoon or Woolly World, which ever one came second.
I'm not going to buy Color Splash, I might pirate it though.

What about Xenoblade X? It came out in December.

Oh right, forgot about Xenoblade.
It was pretty good as well.

It's on Wii U and the fans don't like it. DOA.

>Kill Paper Mario because you don't need two RPG series.
>Meanwhile turn a bunch of your smaller franchises into generic NSMB-esque platformers when you already fucking have NSMB.

paper mario is pure autism
the 64 was good but the rest is garbage
why are you guys making a big deal about color splash?

They needed games during Wii, 3DS, and Wii U droughts.

Their reasoning is kind of skewed. Apparently Mario is only allowed one series per genre, but if it's not Mario then whatever, anything is fine.

This is probably why we can't have real Mario vs Donkey Kong games anymore.

I just don't know anymore, earlier on I was a bit convinced but now it seems like people are warming up to it & it does seem a little better than Sticker Star. I mean people thought the fucking pig was so funny for some reason and I doubt it'll get poor review scores since Sticker Star has a 75 on metacritic so people might look at those & think they should buy it. I just don't understand why it needs to be this way.

Got a link to the interview? I need to read this.

A bare-bones "RPG" with pretty visuals?

It will sell well enough for a sequel.

I work in a game store, and I'll tell you right now even from my small sample size, more people were interested in Star Fox Zero than this. I haven't sold a single pre-order.

usgamer.net/articles/risa-tabata-on-paper-mario-color-splash

Thank you.

Man that interviewer was a real twat.

Isn't it entirely possible that this could very well be a good game in its own right while at the same time having nothing to do with 64 of TTYD?

Just humor me, I liked both of those games and yes Color Splash seems to have nothing to do with them, but I don't know if that automatically makes it shit. Now to be fair, I've seen a bit of the game and it doesn't look fun to me anyways it looks like a boring game for babies, but my point still stands.

>implying it's his fault Tabata has no idea what the fuck they're even doing with the series

>Isn't it entirely possible that this could very well be a good game in its own right while at the same time having nothing to do with 64 of TTYD?

It could be, but if you look what's happened to even Pikmin 3DS which already had a proper entry this generation. Some people aren't remotely prepared to acept any differences in these series.

It's like a proportion of the Nintendo fanbase has turned entirely against spin-offs and new ideas and think every game has to be The Super Ocarina of the Thousand Prime Fox 64.

Sticker Star was complete shit regardless if it was a Paper Mario game or not in my opinion. While Color Splash is definitely stepping it up that gameplay looks really unappealing to me so that alone makes it hard for me to really think it looks like a overall good game on it's own.

>Pikmin 3ds

Pikmin is one of my favorite franchises, and I'm happy to buy that game on day 1. It looks like a perfectly fine way to transition Pikmin's gameplay to a 2d platform. W-whats happened to that game?....

>lol paper, rofl xD, all toads the saem xP, lolololololol real objects in a gaem of paper hahah
>This game is for those players

It could have been, but it won't be.
Some retard will spout bullshit about how fans hate all change as if all change is good.

>Color Splash is literally a sequel to a spin-off with essentially the same combat system and overworld map style of levels

Nintendo will always get shit if they try to rehash a concept or do a new one. At this point if i were them also wouldnt care about fans whenthe base is so divided in opinions

I'll be amazed if it's not the worst selling game in the series, even if only because fucking no one owns a WiiU compared to the install base of previous platforms the series has been on.

>Let's make a sequel to Sticker Star
>on the Wii U
they didn't think any of this through

Well of course not, they started production pretty much right after Sticker Star.

They did that with 3dland. They use handheld games as way to experiment whst people like and try bring to consoles.

>They use handheld games as way to experiment whst people like
except the sticker star team didn't wait

Have they really done that with any other games besides 3D Land & Sticker Star?

Difference between this and Pikmin is that Pikmin is getting a spinoff. This isn't a spinoff, this is just what Paper Mario is now.

All they really accomplished in changing it is removing what little depth the series had by cutting out all of the mechanics. This isn't even an odd twist, this is just straight up regression.

>I'll be amazed if it's not the worst selling game in the series, even if only because fucking no one owns a WiiU compared to the install base of previous platforms the series has been on.

If the game as well as Paper Mario 64 did it would literally be the best selling turn based RPG on any 8th gen console by a large margin. I'd assume the fact JRPGs sales on home consoles have collapsed is probably why they're calling it an "Action Adventure game" in the first place.

Have you seen the camera in the lemon clips? It's fucking nauseating.

>W-whats happened to that game?....

People jumping on it like it's some kind of "slap in the face".

...

Pikmin fans are being melodramatic bitch babies that think they got some kind of "Federation Force treatment"
And the tryhard shitposters insist the 4th game got scrapped to make the 2D platformer

>JRPGs sales on home consoles have collapsed
Only on Nintendo consoles, since the Sony ones have the weeb market.

Oh shit, it's time to update pic related again. Anyone else want anything included in this beyond just this interview?

As a Pikmin fan I think it's just a small group of people that are really against Pikmin 3DS, the whole thing just comes off as falseflagging to me. That being said I will say I don't understand it needs to be another sidescroller.

That pisses me off. Its been one of my favorite games ever since the first one on the GC came out and the 3DS one looks like a fun, harmless little handheld adventure. After 3 good mainline games on a home console there's nothing wrong with that.

This false flagging shit could be a huge problem in the future. If Nintendo fans start treating every non-mainline game as a color splash or federation force its going to get fucking annoying. People love seeing games fail on here. (I do too, but they have to genuinely deserve it like No Man's Sky). People always want the next TORtanic.

>since the Sony ones have the weeb market.

Name one JRPG on PS4 to sell over 1 million copies.(P.S Bloodborne and Dark Souls are action games).

>implying Japan has moved onto the PS4
Their stuff's still being developed for PS3s.

Why does everyone demoing this game fuck up the basic jump commands? Not exactly difficult to do right.

I'm not pro-Toad but the image with all the Toads should be updated. We've seen Sentai toads, butler toads and ghost toads in Color Splash footage.

I do want to update it but I wasn't the one who originally made the Toad part of that image & getting high quality image of those new ones will be a bit hard. Also I kind of need a snipped image of that Enigmansion Toad & Oasis Toad from Sticker Star to be the most accurate.

The ski lift Toad being revived was one of the few really clever moments in Sticker Star, it was like storytelling by way of gameplay mechanics.

He has valid opinions. It just looks like a slower, simpler, boring version of Lemmings.

Yeah, the snow area (mostly just the Enigmanion portion) was my favorite & pretty much the only area I liked in Sticker Star. It felt like it had the most thought put into it & I just have a bias toward ghost stuff.

Also I think I'll just remove the Color Splash logo off that Toad image now that I think about it, the left side of the image was supposed to be entirely focused on Sticker Star & mentioning Color Splash at all in it seems a bit unnecessary since Color Splash obviously didn't influence Sticker Star at all & that interview is all about SS. Plus it helps me be lazy. I still need those 2 Toad images though, I recall someone bitching about me lacking those & I really should add it for accuracy since I don't wanna give false information after all.

>the 64 was good but the rest is garbage
Did you own a Gamecube, user? TTYD was basically 64 but better in almost every way. The only nit-pick I have about TTYD is Mario's new design

Part of it is just people ripping their hair out in frustration of Nintendo's pig-pigheadedness. Sometimes it seems like they're the old testamant god, ignoring prayers and fucking shit up on a whim just because. People wouldn't be complaining as much if there wasn't the uncertainty of what the title meant. A spin off used to just be a spin off, but with some of the decisions lately people just aren't sure that's true anymore, and they don't trust Nintendo enough to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Dude, he freely admits that he's only speaking for himself in that video and that he saw a lot of different reactions. And he explained pretty well why he doesn't like the look of it, and without whining.

>The only nit-pick I have about TTYD is Mario's new design
It's better than the beta one at least.

>zero hype
>it's on Wii U

What do you think?

>For the Paper Mario series, we're focusing more on those elements — the puzzle-solving.

But the puzzles in Sticker Star were shit. It was nothing more than "insert correct thing here."
