I like them
How many of those games are actually good?
Glover, Pac Man world, I-ninja, Bomberman Hero and Kao the Kangaroo?
They're all average tier shite
It's a shame it's a dead genre now.
>dead genre
Yooka Laylee soon, user.
Banjo Tooie is by far the best 3D platformer ever made
Didn't someome make a massive tier list of 3D platformers recently?
...
Now that's a true load of average platformers plus a couple of gems.
it's a shitty genre
at least give me a cute girl to play as
>ripping off my moth design
Where can my lawyers and I contact the person making this.
It's a lot more like some other fuzzy moth person drawing I see floating around a lot with it's humanoid body, while yours has a proper moth physiology with the legs connecting to the middle bit.
In fact it's pretty much a 1:1 copy of the other drawing.
Honestly what's the point if they do nothing 2d platformers don't do?
Dude what
Exactly what I said?
Good job consumer keep on consuming products till you die!
i wish there was a new i ninja
It's my favorite genre still, glad to see Yooka-Laylee is a thing & glad I backed it.
Also how is Kao the Kangaroo? I never heard of that one.
They honestly don't make sense anymore.
They were the pinnacle of gaming and shined during the N64 days since the PS1 games usually looked like dogshit and ran like ass.
But with graphics not being able to wow us anymore and that gameplay being way too simple, it just doesn't make sense anymore.
The same applies to Sonic, but replace N64 with Dreamcast.
Anyone else play this one? It's one of my favourite obscure games.
I'm pretty sure it gave me nightmares as a kid.
Wouldn't mind going back to it now.
pinnacle of gaming was nes and snes
3d was just a change that made some games that were almost as good as snes and nes but there was only a few made compared to 100s of titles.
the gameplay is better then modern games because it is harder to figure out what to do which alludes to their charm.
the next step is VR but i believe instead of it just being a few games it is back to being 100s of games.
VR and platforming would be weird though
It definitely had some creepy parts.
The level where you get sent to hell still resonates in my mind to this day.
If you ever decide to play it again, remember to change the controls. The defaults are terrible. It also emulates well.
I don't think I ever made it to that part. I was pretty disturbed early on as a kid..
There's a lot of forgotten platformers on the OG Xbox
It was very late game. In the second last hub.
>Ape Escape 4 never
>Instead it will be another shitty spin off
You should check out Nitro Rad, he covers a bunch of obscure 6th gen platformers.
I love that shit.
Played Psychonauts for the first time a while ago. It was pretty fun, but took a dip with the fucking Meat Circus. Learnt a while ago that Psychonauts 2 is in the works, what do you all think?
Psychonauts is really meh as far as platforming goes.
Give me an innovative and cool mechanic to revive this genre
You can transform into a motorcycle at will
time only moves when you jump.
you have a gun
It's ratchet and clank but instead of being 90% shooting and 10% "platforming" it's 50% shooting and 50% actual platforming.
Also the enemy bullets travel around the same speed of Ys games, so the game doesn't become a cover shooter, but instead a 3D shump where you jump and shit.
You could just say "make it into Ys Origins".
Not to say that's bad or anything, that game is awesome.
>It's ratchet and clank but instead of being 90% shooting and 10% "platforming" it's 50% shooting and 50% actual platforming.
So, Jak&Daxter?
>What do you think of the genre?
I really like it
>What are you currently playing?
I'm playing Tooie for the first time. I'm finding it way better than Kazooie so far desu. Just started jolly roger's lagoon.
>What games are you looking forward to?
Well, aside from Yooka Laylee theres nothing else to look foward to desu sempai. I relly hope it to be a massive succes, it could mean a new golden age for the genre.
Would a turn based 3D platformer work? How?
Oh neat, PK Out of the Shadows is on that picture. My dad bought it for me at a second hand store because "You play video games, right?". It was average and fun.
FUUUUUCK that noise
let's talk about the only 3D game to successfully combine First Person shooting and Platforming (on the fucking n64 no less)
Watch the scuttlebug autism mario 64 game and make a game that is so complex it will fascinate autists with how much you can do with the platforming in the game.
Make a game that is NES level difficulty
with secrets locked behind skill
Mario64 is not complex. It's just broken as fuck. Literally "it's ok when nintendo does it"
What about a mmo 3d platformer where there is 1000s of platformers who have to have a place and work together to accomplish goals in a level while another team of platformers can attack the other one screwing the other team over. You have your bruisers and you have the cordinated people who need to work together to complete levels
Levels need to be super huge and things need to be super crazy to get to.
My point still stands make a game that can be figured out if you do crazy shit like that autistic guy.
Make a game that you can do that stuff if you want but more and make it even harder to do those things.
Make things that take crazy skill to get to.
platformers are missing the challenge and mystique of the old days
Are there any fast-paced 3d platformers besides Sonic?
Does Quake count?
...which is?
Gravity rush should be on that list. Specifically at the top
It's more of a flying game than a platformer
Lol no. More like the middle.
...
Innovative and cool mechanics don't work for 3D platformers. The fans simply hate anything that deviates too much from the formula.
It was retarded
Blinx was trash though
*blinks behind you
psshh... nothing personal kid
Has Sup Forums ever tried Jumping Flash 1 and 2?
They're unique in that they're first-person platformers. Pretty damn rare and surprisingly fun.
This is on sale for $5 on Steam. Any good?
Post dem platformer webms
no
Always been my favorite genre.
Can't wait for Yooka-Laylee.
>nes
> good games
Even most of the so called classics are barely functional, and the rest of the shovelware is worse than most of the Wii lineup
Oh god bait harder my dude
Take Mario's physics and move pool, and expand upon it without changing or removing anything.
was it really? I wanted to get an Xbox with Malice, Blinx, Oddworld, and Grabbed by the Ghoulies at the time (ended up getting a Gamecube)
NES shovelware is pretty garbage, but it's got a fair library overall.
particularly if you look at post-1988 games
...
What gay'm?
the fuck are you talking about little kid
the gameplay is better then most modern games.
its very OK.. it has fairly plain combat and has Maximo health system which feels out of place to me. that being said it has a little of that ps2 platformer era charm so if you are looking for that it might be what your looking for.
this triggers me
t. kid who couldn't finish Mario 1
This and sonic mania are how sonic should be
Overgrowth. It's been in beta for 6 years, no hopes for it.
I played it and it was a lot of fun, guy you replied to probably never owned an xbox
>beta
more like ultra early alpha, release date 2050
...
