No. Just download that soundtrack.

I liked the game but
>too many characters
>it goes from an ok story into some messy shit

first 30% or so is exellent, but it goes downhill fast.

it's a bit easier to swallow if you think of it as experimental art and not an rpg. honestly I'd just look for a way to patch out the common battles.

Not really, its heavily flawed in many aspects. From characters having less personality than a random pokemon, to the story being poorly paced and at times meandering. Even the gameplay elements are a bit lacking, but allow you to at least mostly customize your individual character's abilities.

That said, if you can look past its flaws, it can have a rather interesting story behind it all. Though honestly I'd recommend just reading a LP to skip all the bullshit instead.

Yeh. It has the same problem Xenogears had, but not nearly as bad. It's mostly great.

it is an amazing game and comfy af

the characters at least talk in xenogears.

serge never talks, and none of his companions talk. it's fucking either meant to be surreal, or a massive misallocation of resources. or both, which seems likely.

the latter half of the game is an acid trip, and serge lacks connections with any real people.

being called to question the reality of your existence doesn't strike me as comfy, but I've always been odd

no according to nintendrones

it is a bad chrono game.
but it is a great game by itself.

Technically not true. The characters do talk. The problem is actually worse than that however. Literally every character is just an accent filter for a generic line based on their position in the party. There is no unique dialog save for when they initially join or get their final techs. With a few minor exceptions if they're relevant to the story at some point.

>With a few minor exceptions if they're relevant to the story at some point.
and there's a huge chance that you miss that point.

I dunno about that, man. Xenogears was really half-assed, but Cross felt at least 78%-assed to me.
Xenogears is half of a game, but the story at least makes a kind of sense. Cross, as a game feels mostly complete, then the story stops trying to make sense right at the end.
Who was the giant stone face inside Terra Tower supposed to be?

Why is she so perfect?

they had unique dialogue in the jp version, actually. somehow, they ran out of disc space in the american version for text. don't ask me how that happens.

but it was still only a few unique lines.

I think we agree. gears less less finished, but at least comes together somehow and covers the basics better.

cross lacks coherency beyond a basic point, which is bad. but you can tell it wasn't really intended to be completely coherent anyway.

Comfy as fuck and excellent battle gameplay but i always end up losing all interest and dropping it

because she dies

...

Looks and sounds so amazing it's really curious how they managed to make everything else so underwhelming.

Don't listen to these faggots OP. Chrono cross is one of the best JRPGs ever and has some of the most beautiful dialogue ever committed to a game, especially in the FATE HQ portion. It even tops trigger for me

> the most beautiful dialogue ever committed to a game

This made me laugh. Thanks.

Cross > Trigger

Deal with it

...

If you dislike stories with convoluted time or space based elements, then this game is the equivalent to sticking your head in a blender

SaGa Frontier > Trigger > Cross > Shit > SaGa Frontier 2
