What do you believe to the worst part of the gaming industry these days?

What do you believe to the worst part of the gaming industry these days?

Marketing, broken games, DLC etc.

Kickstarter and the like.

Uninspired settings/premise and prioritizing almost anything but gameplay

Paid dlc rather than expansions, day one patches, prioritizing literally anything over gameplay, etc.

SJWing up the localizations.

Bullshit politics that have nothing to do with games. Fuck off leave my vidya alone.

Early Access or selling clearly unfinished games.

>I just want things to stay racists, bigoted and misogynistic

sorry but that's not how things work, user. progress in society involves fixing shit like that.

you're the equivalent of old racists people saying how much they miss the 60s when they didn't have to share the goods with blacks.

>Bullshit politics that have nothing to do with games. Fuck off leave my vidya alone.

I know the feel user. We just see it as entertainment but politics see it as something popular to latch on to.

Bioware
Early Access
f2p mechanics in 60$ retail games IE packs of random items with no guarantee to get what you want

Marketing broken games with day-one DLC.

It's bait falling for bait hour.

Lack of focus, especially on the game's original strengths.

>Zero Escape had a strong narrative. But to make ZTD more appealing, they focused on the visuals and it all fell flat.

>Hotline Miami had strong level design. So they focused on the narrative and "more this, more that" in 2 and it suffered

>MGS had strong characters and narrative. So they focused on open world gameplay and it wasted too much time and money to complete.

The list goes on but you get it.

The idea of appealing to an wider audience, people think it's silly to blame casuals, but if you talk to someone who plays games on their phone, you can already they most don't even have any interest in video games, which is why LP's are a huge thing.

This reminds me of the Thief reboot.

Most publishers playing it too safe with tried & proven gameplay which makes it all feel too familiar.

>SFV has a season pass that doesn't include all the dlc
>FFXV is going to have a season pass that's missing certain dlc too

Lack of passion and companies trying to appeal to the wrong demographisc and/or people's social justice complaints.

Simply shitty unfinished games

put some effort in your bait next time

Games are too often unfinished piles of shit and there's no more innovation.

As well as broken promises and the finished product being completely different than what was originally shown

Excessive reliance on focus testing, and following trends that produce bland games with boring plots, settings, unremarkable gameplay, and characters

DLC definitely. However, I don't consider what we have these days to be "DLC". DLC used to be post-game content which developers made after the games release, or expansions. Now DLC is literally parts of games that are just cut out and sold separately. Imagine buying a game is like buying a bicycle. You used to buy a bike from the shop and be able to take it home and ride it. Then later if you wanted to add pegs or a light or basket or something, you could get it later, but the bike would still always be usable as is. Now, you buy a bike and take it home to find out that, "Oh brakes don't come with the bike now" "You needed to pre-order if you wanted the bike to come with fucking tires on it!".
That and online multiplayer. It is shoved into every game that doesn't need it.I play some games just to relax and have fun, I don't need to have a co-op partner for Zelda. Leave it in the games that actually benefit from it like shooters or racing/sports games.

F2P is also shitty. I can appreciate how it means anyone can actually pick up and play it, but they are all riddled with game breaking P2W shit and make learning the game and skill irrelevant and doesn't reward putting time into the game.

devs with an agenda to push

Endless sequels and 'spiritual successors'

We need some new ideas

EA

Deadlines. Day 1 dlc. "Season pass" Bullshit. Half finished garbage sold at full price. Game winds up costing $100. They have the rights to some of the most popular franchises, the $ to promote the hell out of them, and Fuck them up every time. Since they are market leaders like Bioware, other companies adopt their business model.

This is the cancer of the industry.

I'll go on to say picky gamers calling everything "shit" if it doesn't meet their every standard are the herpes of the gaming industry.

The death of demos.

Games being made for consoles then being ported to pc instead of pc to console. Everyone ends up with a substandard game instead of the best possible version their system is capable of.

Piracy

I hope the whole Nioh thing works out and developers take notice and begin to more actively look for feedback and suggestions.

>these days
Piracy has been around forever and will continue to be around forever.

The lack of piracy.

Just because it was around in the past doesn't mean it still isn't one of the worst parts of the gaming industry today

I don't really think so.
I don't for a motherfucking second believe the bs lies people on here spout about, "Well, I'll pirate and if I like it, I'll buy it!". Bullshit. The truth is that they are cheap and were never going to buy it regardless, so I don't think it actually affects sales or quality in the slightest. The problem with games is that they are software, and software isn't tangible and when it isn't something you can hold and own, people will always want to steal it. Rather than spending so much time and effort fighting the inevitable piracy, why not just focus on making a good quality product that those who are going to pay you for will enjoy. Hey, maybe if a game does actually get good enough they will make more sales and some of those pirates may want to get a physical copy, who knows?

>why not just focus on making a good quality product that those who are going to pay you for will enjoy

this is legit the reason why cowadooty games are rising in popularity still and others are copying the more popular formulas

piracy punishes creative risks
why would anybody deviate from what works if all that's going to happen is it'll be pirated in the end

Cinematic Experiences

Fuck you naughty dog

No creativity. It seems like every game nowadays is just a reskin of something else. I don't even see a difference in sports games anymore.
