Who thought this abomination was a good idea?

Who thought this abomination was a good idea?

Clearly the devs and publisher

what's this?
looks cool

suits

>"I've got a great idea! Let's make a new Thief game and make it AAA trash, the complete opposite of the original. Audience will suck it's dick!"
>"FUCK YEAH!"
Surely they must be mentally challanged.

Thief 2014.

Do you like pandering to the lowest common denominator? Do you like bland level design? A jack of all trades, but the master of none? Congrats, it's a game for you!

HEEY FUCKEERRR, IM GOING TO THE FUCKING BEAR PITS TOMORROW, YA WANNA COME WITH?

The people who saw that the classic games were getting more recognition and popularity and wanted to make money from it.
People who look at market research but have no involvement in the media itself.

It figures. Too bad gamers today consume their half baked products.

Where did it go so wrong?

Terrible game but I don't mind so much because we were never going to get another good Thief game anyway, the promotional Thief Gold giveaway probably introduced a lot of people to the series proper, and I still have fan missions.

>Terrible game, but I don't mind so much because we were never going to get another good Thief game anyway
Unfortunetely, this couldn't be any more true.

Well, it's not entirely true. There's a full-length fan campaign coming up that's looking pretty sexy (pic related).

have anyone played dark mod?

>hey, you know that old game we still have the rights to? The one with the small but dedicated fanbase?
>yeah, let's reboot it but make it the exact opposite of what it originally was
>brilliant, this shit will print money, I tell ya

Does anyone have the donte fuck you speech but then with taff you.

focus groups
this board is fucked

...

Devs saw that Dishonored went well so they thought they could revive, trouble is people played Dishonored for the killing. lore and powers, not the stealth or non-lethal stuff.

except dishonored also fucked up bigtime with its nonlethal bullshit.

>dude you are an awesome assassin
>but dont try to hurt anyone, thats evil and we dont want that, do we.
>ow you do, well fuck you, here is your daughtru being full evil, the boatguy suddenly being butthurt and a storm in the final level.

...

I kind of wish dishonoured had less of the powers and other things it's still too simplified though
it's also a better thief game than the actual thief game
this is funny

Never understood this meme, the game just gave you more corpses, rats, zombies and high security to play around with if you played a murderous psychopathic demon. The story just reflected what you did. It's non-canon anyways so you still get to play through it again non-lethally to get the proper storyline.

Ah, heres the obligatory 'game punishes me!' retard, couldn't even contain this bullshit meme to the Dishonored thread.

dont do that

Starting with Blink was seriously the thing that trivialized every mission in Dishonored.

If Blink was something you got like in the final 3rd or 4th of the game it would be a -very- different game.

I digged the aesthetics of the city in Thief, I liked the dirty grimdark atmosphere, shame they wasted it on a psuedo-stealth game though.

>trailer shows the guy stabbing people
>game has a nonlethal route

I appreciate that the devs wanted to make it so players could traverse everywhere in a level but blink did take away from it. Looking at , it's exciting because I know that I could probably reach every place visible in the image. You can probably find a way onto those buttresses, and that platform with the metal hammer, and that darker area at the top-center where the magic streetlight is. But that's the thing, I'd have to find a way there, which could be tricky. In Dishonored, you don't have to think about anything like that because the obvious solution to everything is to use blink.

Like the original Thief games?

>game has different ways to play it
>they offer different outcomes gameplay and storywise
>Sup Forumsirgin is mad
just when I thought this place couldn't be any more retarded, you post this

>yfw you first played Down in the Bonehoard

>game offers dull way to play it and exciting way to play it
>if you play it excitingly you get called evil
>this is somehow okay
just when I thought Sup Forums couldnt be more stupid we got these apologists

dude you murdered your way through hundreds of innocent guards, how are you not evil? furthermore, why do you care, you had fun playing the game and it called you a bad word at the end, this somehow diminishes all the hours of fun you had?
I played the game only once full lethal and it was great but I don't see what's the fucking problem with someone wanting to play it non-lethal

...

>If I give you the possibility to shoot the rope arrow everywhere... I will have to reduce our intention for the narrative"

Spoken like a true pleb who's terrible at level design. I've made Thief FMs with lots and lots of rope arrow/climbing possibilities and always took them into account with the narrative. This actually requires effort, something these hacks are incapable of.

It was actually a good game with you used a custom difficulty setting, which the game provided. Forcing gameover at alerts and kills, and optionally knockouts, makes it a pretty solid stealth sneakan game.

Still not a particularly good Thief game, but better than the base game on a regular difficulty setting.

It's quite solid.

Dishonored is quite mediocre, compared to a proper stealth title like Styx.

I assume you're talking about Dishonored.

It was a dumbed down level design from the original games. How's that a good thing?

Bad writing, mediocre protagonist, dumbed down stealth, game tries to be so many things and ends up being none. This isn't a good game, user. Don't delude yourself for a second, there. Styx is a good game, Thief 2014 is garbage.

Why is Styx so underrated? "MUH NOSTALGIA THE GAME", fuck you critics.

Devs from the original knew exactly how to restrict rope and arrow, and also how to make it reasonable in the game's world.

By "narrative" I'm sure they mean cutscenes and scripted sequences.

>you will never play The Dark Project for the first time again

I know, but my post still applies.

I only played an hr or so of theif 2014 at someones house, it wasn't bad

>you will never run the marathon with skeletobros again

It's your run of the mill triple A garbage.

i bought it day 1 and completely regretted it. Could've been good if it wasn't held back by the ps3 and 360 versions

The ps3 and 360 didn't make them restrict movement the way they did, or make the story an unintelligible mess, or cause all the glitches, or make the devs abandon the excellent setting established in the first games.

Styx is awesome. Best stealth game since chaos Theory, and a great story.

Too bad it's so overlooked. Pretty excited for the new game.

>dishonored

...

you can kill people without getting to high chaos, just don't slaughter every single guard

This. Thief 4 is a mediocre as fuck game but it had very good world design.

Character design though, that's another story. Garrett and Erin both look fucking stupid in my opinion.

>no shadows
>don't have to worry about making sound as long as you're crouched
>not centered around Thieving
>max difficulty doesn't cause killing to result in a game over
>objectives don't change depending on difficulty
>no opportunity for fan missions
>good Thief game

>14 fps on "next gen" consoles

It's mediocre af.

It's not evil, it's "chaotic".

The nonlethal ways you can get rid of your targets are more horrifying.

...

That's bullshit, but I like it.
