People who are better than me: nolife tryhards
People who are worse than me: noobs

Its a term used by people not vested in the game to insult people who vested time and effort into the game.

A term used to purvey superiority over other things in life, which the other person (tryhard) must surely lack because of the time he put in to become better at the game then someone who just picked up the game.

i thought it would mean something like fags that have to try really hard in video games to do above average but still not really great. maybe prone to vidya rage etc too

then you have people that are truly at a natural high skill level that dont have to try hard but are amazing and just better naturally

I always thought tryhards were people who think they're better than they are. You notice them a lot in MMOs.

They try their hardiest to be like the top raiders and world first groups by going over the top on min/maxing and the optimal meta. They think it compenstates for them being an average player and will make them top tier.

Maybe, but the important thing is that it lets you look down on random people you meet on the internet.

Tryhards in CoD were people who used the best weapons, perks, and killstreaks. I think in MW2 it involved:

UMP45
Thumper
C4
Stun Grenade
Marathon Pro
Lightweight Pro
Commando Pro

People who 100% swear by whatever's meta at the moment and belittle those that don't follow it as gospel

They think you aren't allowed to play the game unless you abide by what a small group of "pros" have deemed to be the absolute best
Granted, there's a lot of cases where it gets misused (anyone who is better than me is a tryhard! anyone who uses meta characters is a tryhard!), but the most important distinction is when someone tries to police other players and tries to force them into whatever's meta at the moment

To clarify: A lot of this comes from being unable to think for themselves. Rather than experimenting with different loadouts/classes/characters/whatever, they immediately stick to whatever's the 'best', and refuse to even consider moving out of their comfort zone

u talk 2 much

I was watching some Oroboro Dark Souls PVP video and at one point he goes, "wait, let me just deal with this tryhard," then he went over and killed the guy.

I literally have no idea what he meant by that. Some people itt are saying that people say it when they get killed by someone better who's spent more time on the game but in this Oroboro example neither was the case. Obviously Oroboro was better than the guy and killed him easily, and obviously Oroboro has played Souls far more than the other guy probably did and he knew that.

I just don't get this word at all. I think it means something different to everyone.

People who take the game more seriously than you.
For instance, when I'm feeling really lazy while playing Dota 2, anybody who uses wards, does pulls
or is just generally playing really well looks like a tryhard to me.

As someone who plays quite a bit of souls pvp, I think it's someone who uses a meta build but lacks the skill to utilize it. Just my interpretation.

to me a tryhard is someone that is playing their all and are still average, compared to someone who is half trying but naturally better regardless.

Anyone that stuffs stats over helping their team. It's never anyone on the opposing side that is called a tryhard. It's the dick that steals kills and plays completely offensively.

I think the definition of tryhard is SUPPOSED to be someone who always uses the cheapest / easiest tactics in a videogame to ensure victory rather than try new things and potentially have fun. They're tryhards because all they want to do is win, and they're willing to have a less interesting experience.

Because Call of Duty servers are mostly inhabited by teenage pot heads and actual children, the term inevitably became a general insult for anyone who was better than you or if you're an exceptionally bratty shithead, anyone who happened to kill you period.

I think as it stands, tryhard is just tossed around as a general insult in video games and not necessarily to just specific kinds of players.

The guy Oroboro killed could have been using a Dark Souls build that is developed for easy PvP kills against casual players. Or, he could have just said it because he thought it was funny.

Originally, someone who took something too seriously. Like playing a Halo custom game and some faggot is camping in a corner or something.
Now, its just something whiners say instead of getting gud.

the guy wasn't using a meta build though m8, just some random player build

this is probably it...yeah that's what I think it is in a nutshell. he could even be above average in skill, but still not nearly as naturally talented as the amazing players who dont even have to 'try hard' to be at that level

most of Sup Forums is probably pretty tryhard 2bh

"I-I didn't lose because you're a better player, I was just fooling around"

Someone who forgoes any strategy they might think as even a tiny bit less optimal than the meta, even if it is more fun, in order to minimize his chances of losing because he is physically incapable of having fun if he isn't winning 100% of the time.

>hanzo main

This nails it perfectly. There are some rare cases where the term could actually be used (people who always slavishly follow the trendy meta builds in non-conpetitive environments without even trying to experiment), but mostly it's just a fucking pointless insult that means nothing.

it's not only for use on the internet. that's the ___fag tag

This

It means you place more importance on winning than anything else, including enjoyment of said activity.

Tryhard to me was always like a blowhard. Some know-it-all who actually shit but tries to swing his dick anyways

Noob is someone who tries really hard but is too dumb to be good basically. Tryhard is a meme term for people that stomp them, implying it's a bad thing to do your best all the time.

This is a bait thread, friendos

There's no such thing as "natural high skill level", there's tons of practice and proper analysis of your gameplay though.

This in Hardcore, Stopping Power in core.

Literally like the Flash with a golden gun and an instakill grenade launcher.

Someone who joins a server where everyone is using gimmicky weapons only and continues to use far better weapons for no apparent reason in settings that do not yield any sort of reward.

Do not be confused with tryhards who call others tryhards in competitive settings as a scapegoat for them performing poorly.

Someone who was utilizing the games meta but then switches to inferior motives to play off they were never trying.

Everything above is a tryhard regardless if their performance reflects it.

it means someone who prioritizes winning and the appearance of being good above all else, including fun.

The ideal is to relax, have fun, AND be good at the game. Sacrificing both for one is retarded, and is worthy of insult.

How so? I only see a calm discussion and no one is arguing against one another. It's pretty much almost a consensus thread.

tryhards are people as it literally says that are trying too hard. they don't seem to be having fun approaching a game as a form of entertainment, but as something more important or serious, like a job or a position of power. that's why they tell other people what to do all the time and get unreasonably mad when people aren't taking things as seriously as they do.

How can you tell if a winning person doesn't have fun though?

Ignore all the dumb faggots who think it means "trying to win."

Tryhard is the metafaggot. The guy who thinks there's a "right" way to play and you have to play that way because he saw it on some stream somewhere or heard it from some forum. Tryhards are the spergs who go full nuclear autism because they don't like your pick or build or how you play. And they're always bad.

They're called TRYhards, not winhards. They lose and they blame everything but themselves because they're infallible in their mind following whatever retard pathos they've developed.

Basically, because people are niggers and bought into their bullshit of "I just want to win, stop having fun" the term because useless, so we get more faggoty terms like "toxic" to describe these cockstains. Except because that type of term in itself is stupidly generic it's used as a catchall for everything else that might make a person buttmad like simple banter or a few "bad" words or the piss garglers who are actually intentionally losing.

So with no term to specifically call these people out and many developers(looking at you riot and blizzard) that go out of their way to actually cater to these annoying fucks, communities in general have degraded as their mental illness becomes accepted as standard.

>There's no such thing as "natural high skill level"
yes there is. people have naturally higher ability potential than other people. it's why there's only one messi in the world right now. sure messi trains hard but if you trained as hard as he did or even more you would never be able to be nearly as good as he is at football.

same applies to video games. some people are just naturally better than you. doesn't matter how much you played quake, you would never be able to be on cypher's level:

>caring about stats in an unranked match

those are the only tryhards, I don't care if they're trying to win, but if they boast something in an unranked match and their rank is dogshit it's stupid as hell

When I was growing up you usually didn't get called a name for going out of your way to do something. It was merited. Now that I am older, people say stuff like "going ham" and "tryhard," although I don't really see where the insult is supposed to lie being that the requisite of any of them is that you apply effort to something.

A label to make others feel better. There are a lot of these in the world, try to keep up.

He's probably still complaining about something and being a bitch in general

A good example of this are people in tr4sh for glory that exclusively play high tier characters, or do nothing but follow flow-charts for characters like Mario, Samus, Captain Falcon, Bayonetta or Link.
They don't come up with anything unique or mix-up anything, they just do the same moves over and fucking over again until they win.
It's predictable, boring, and sometimes it works a little too well.

You get these faggots in rainbow six that are In a clan running a 5 man squad all golds and they're actually shitters. They win some ranked games against solo ques and act like hot shit in casual matches. They usually run all the meme strategies on YouTube, and a lot of times when you beat them they cry hacks or some shit. Its not just rb6 though, I've seen this in a bunch of different games over the years.

That's some tryhard tier explanation.

Says you, shitter

Don't forget to make a tier list for the explanations and spam it around in every thread henceforth.

there is an appropriate way to approach doing things. if you're at a party that has a contest with kids, you don't fuck over all the kids just because you want to win, and you don't get mad at kids who are on your team, if they don't perform well. tryhards don't care about the context, they don't care about fun, they only care about winning; and yet, are often the reason that their team doesn't win

lol k you butthurt faggot. go join the ufc and see how high you can go. it only takes practice. hell while you're at it why don't you cure cancer too.
