Because we had three of those in a row. It's not an unreasonable thing to be mad about. Fire starters have so little variety compared to Grass/Water starters, in both typing and appearance. I don't usually pick Fire starters so I don't care about it being bipedal, but a bunch of autists do.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what type it is though, it's probably going to learn just as many Fighting moves as Dark moves anyway.

I do pick all fire starters, and ingame it makes some sense. Both Roark and Roxanne are rock gym leaders, and at least in BW1 by the time tepig evolves your next gym is a normal type. The problem with fire is not starters only, water types naturally get better moves, primarina's movepool is already surf-mb/dg-ice beam-filler, and most grass types are carried by their second type if they have one. Even with 4x ice weakness, sceptile got better with a dragon typing, just look at Meganium and Serperior they get fuck all for moves because their only option is grass stab, and grass sucks offensively
