Is the concept of a backlog anxiety producing? Every time I have a backlog I always feel like I need to beat the game I'm playing so I can move into the next one and so on in order to clear it. I can't think of a single situation when I've had a backlog and not felt this. I don't have one right now and I feel so liberated in a way. It allows me to enjoy what game I'm currently playing. I'm replaying a game I've had and plan to replay another when I'm done with this one.

Do you have a backlog Sup Forums? How do you keep it under control if you do? Is yours out of control? Does it cause anxiety for you as well or not?

I just play whatever game I feel like.

Lately I'm picking huge games instead of shorter games, so I find I can't finish games very quickly.

The thing for me is that if I don't beat a game, not even 100% it, I feel like I'm not done with it. I have so many of these games I've just lost interest in and not bothered to beat. But I don't like it. Like when I beat a game I just feel so relieved.

What larger games are you starting to play recently?

>Have huge backlog that keeps growing
>keep playing games not on backlog
ive already given up

Do you keep buying games too? My problem is that I impulse buy way too damn much. I stopped myself from doing that just recently with DQB and the rest of the Hitman episodes. But now there are so many sales going on that I wanna impulse buy again. I'm holding off right now and hopefully I won't give in until the sale ends since I know I won't buy these two games at non sale price.

How huge are we talking here?

>I have so many of these games I've just lost interest in and not bothered to beat.

I'm like this but it doesn't upset me. I buy a game, if I like it I play it a lot if I don't like it that much it tends to get forgotten.

I'm not going to force myself to endure a game I'm lukewarm on just because I spent money on it. Yes its a waste, but I'd rather do something I enjoy instead of suffering for the sake of good value.

I think you just gave me an epiphany. The problem is that I waste money in this way more often than I'd like. I always think about the bigger picture. Like sure it's $10 here, but how much was it throughout the year? Or the last X years.

50+ and those are just story based ones, i try not to include ones that dont really end. like puzzle and rouge likes

Jesus Christ. How'd you even get to a backlog of 50? I panic when I'm at 3+.

I've resorted to creating a backlog to motivate me to play games. If I just played whatever I felt like, I probably would only play 1 game a month or not even that.

Backlog of games I kinda want to play: 1-5 games.
Actual accumulated backlog over the years: 100+ but not in the mood to play most of them.

What do you mean by this?

You make a list and say to yourself "okay gotta beat these soon"?

I've just accepted I'm a weak faggot coward who'd rather play the same games over and over than risk something new.

The longer you go on and the more you've wasted money on it the more hesitant you are to purchase. For instance I held off buying GTAV when it was 40% off because I knew it isn't really my cup of tea.

So many times I've told myself "I'll find time to play it, probably on one of those lazy days where you scroll up and down your steam list seeing if anything takes my fancy"

In general, if I think like that when I'm about to buy a game I avoid it, especially if the game is more than $5. Just gotta be aware of your own behaviour.

I have a 100+ backlog because I spent a year saving money for a gaymen PC while buying games I couldn't play yet when they went on sale

>a year

Better be a good fucking PC.

a few are because my system isnt good enough to play them. im making an amazing build next month . but i also just have problems. i have restrained from games because i am afraid of my log getting even bigger. or having more distraction games

>I'll find time to play it
Holy shit. I do this all the dam time. For all those small games I've bought but never quite got to the end. I find myself doing it more often with games I already have beaten though. Like I've been saying to myself I'd go through the ME trilogy again forever. Even bought the actual trilogy collection on a PSN flash sale for $5 since I put my 360 in the closet.
But the game runs terribly on PS3 and the DS3 just sorta sucks, so now I gotta wait for them to make 2 and 3 available for xb1 backwards compatibility.

I think the best thing to do is to have a small backlog of stuff you are either working on, stopped part way through, or want to beat ASAP for whatever reason. If you focus on every single little thing that you own (especially steam users) it can become overwhelming.

I've actually done pretty well with this system and have beaten 6 games within the past month (many were half way through, but still). Its also not a bad idea to use websites like HLWB to see how long a game is and prioritize stuff you can beat quicker over titles that might take 30-40+ hours.

Yep, you think you're getting convenience but so often it ends up just being a waste of money.

Yeah, I've made a tiny list of 1-5 games that I realistically have the free time to finish before the end of 2016 and these are games that I'm actually motivated to play soon.

The rest of the games go into a bigger backlog for 2017 or even later. I don't think about playing these games (until they go into the shortlist) to avoid overburdening myself and burning out on having too many games in-progress.

The thing is I'm pretty lazy with games so without this feeling of 'gotta beat them soon', I'd probably have many more games unfinished.

If I had a gaming pc I'd probably never play anything. The ability to play any game you've ever bought, and the ability to emulate anything would pretty much make sure I never beat anything.

I did that recently actually. I beat Blood and Wine after stopping it like mid-June, and the remainder of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir since I only had the final book left. I beat 2 games within days of each other and I felt fucking great.

Yes. Thanks for saying that. Like I said there's this sale going on and both games I sorta want are only $10 each. But I keep asking myself if I really wanna play them, and why not just save the $20 for a future game I actually do want. And if I bought them I'd have a backlog again. Thanks user.

That's kind of ingenious in a way. A backlog for your backlog. Makes things seem more doable.

Eh, kind of sort of. It's got better since I've let myself ditch games I know I'm not going to want to play or continue playing, even though my backlog is at nearly 200 games at the moment.
Just let yourself dip your toes into games and don't feel compelled to play all the way through. After all, there's nothing stopping you from going back once you've sampled something if you have even a slight interest in it.

I don't use steam so my backlog is only like 20 games that I know are good. I add one or two a month and play through one or two a month, including replays of old games.

biggest backlog ever

but I plan play all the games, so there is no rush

also no way to succeed, so no pressure either

Its a when I get to it kinda thing

I guess an alternative way of doing it would be to assign high/low priority to whatever games you wanted to play first.

I only do it because I'm really lazy with getting around to playing games. For example, I've only just finished Deus Ex Human Revolution but I bought the game way back in 2011. Real life got in the way which put the game on the bigger backlog until now.

>forcing yourself to play games you don't want to

Capitalism

I'm gonna try to stop doing that if possible.
