He fucked up big time by feuding with Twitch over bitrate and getting himself banned, it was the worst decision he ever made for his "business." I know it's kinda the whole joke behind This Is How You Don't Play, but he really does have a serious problem with just assuming everyone else is always wrong. He should just swallow his pride, apologize if he has to, and go back to Twitch. He lost out on lots of exposure from the Twitch directory and even some of his diehard fans (who had managed to stick with him this long, for SOME reason) had to have called it quits after they had to start watching shitty YouTube streams and using an IRC client for stream chat.

No one goes to YouTube to watch people play games anymore. (Unless it's just highlights or click bait)

Twitch didn't ban him specifically over the bitrate thing, but while he was streaming on YouTube he was encouraging his viewers to still use the chat of his offline Twitch channel so Twitch staff got fed up and did in fact ban him.

He's also being defeatist and impatient about Twitch, you have to stick with it and stream big games around launch which draws in viewers. Only a small percent stick around, but that adds up after a year or two. Honestly, I think part of the issue is that he wants to be lazy with his brand and still somehow stay competitive. He starts streaming at "noon" but sometimes actually starts playing at 12:30–12:45, streams for a couple hours, takes a break until "7:00" but the same issue where he's probably starting to play by 7:30–7:45, streams for another couple hours, and that's it for the day. Sometimes there's no second stream either because he has errands to run, wants to play something off-stream without having to commentate, or is recording some "week in preview" video nobody watches. 2–6 hours a day for a dedicated streamer is absurd, some of the dudes who get DSP's tier of viewership (500–1000 viewers, something streamers work for years to get) do this shit for several hours a day every day. He wants this to be his job, but doesn't want to treat it like a job. His problem is that he's been doing this so long and got habituated to a market that was nowhere near as saturated as it is now. It's do or die, he can adapt to the current business model or bleed viewers until he can't live off this anymore.

Even so, if the man is struggling and can't even afford the slight effort of calling out subscribers if that's what makes the money, boo fucking hoo. I get irritated at my job too, and I'm not playing video games all day.

Eh, I suppose it depends on the game and the person. If you're watching DSP you'd be thankfully silent of any sort of activity it seems. The people I watch get subscribers fairly regularly, but 2 seconds to read out some neckbeard's name on stream is a small price to pay for what it affords the streamer. Even if it drives you away personally, that's what pays the bills. Unfortunately, your tastes may align with unsuccessful business practices.
