You are thinking of pixel not voxel. Voxel is typically used for minecraft-likes.

If you aren't making a building or crafting game, you have no business using voxel since it is ugly as sin for any other gameplay.

Starmade is updating really slowly, but he has a solid as fuck base.
Sadly it has no flora or fauna yet since he's working on NPC faction ai systems atm, so it's really just a building and playermade game right now.
