Help me understand, where does your feeling of superiority come from, my pc friends? Can you give me a reason to not feel bad about my recent build and not make it feel like wasted money? Is the witcher 3 really that good?

In a similar situation as you OP. I recently got a new gpu and was excited to finally be able to run witcher 3. Got bored of it a few days later and went back emulating old games. They just don't make games like they used to

I have a AMD HD6950. I was going to upgrade but there is NOTHING on PC this 'gen'. I bought a Ps4, WiiU and even an OG xbox for the exclusives and I am literally drowning in games that I cant seem to play fast enough. And now i know the pleasure of my purchase still having monetary value after i buy it instead of my dollars evaporating into digital distribution heaven. My little bro bought a 1k computer with some student loan and all he does is play Overwatch on it.

I'm using a 760 and the Witcher 3 is the most taxing thing I've used it for, going through and custom picking what graphic options I don't mind flipping off just to guarantee a nice buttery-smooth framerate.

I mean, I guess if I played more sloppily, shittily done modern console-to-PC ports I might need a 1k-line nvidia card simply to brute force developer's SHIT code through it, but I don't care about Cawabattlefield 19--or whatever the current most graphically intensive GPU hog is.

Upgrade when you NEED to. And don't try to "future-proof" because the industry caught on to that and began sabotaging PC owner's attempts to do that by making the last-gen drivers perform worse (nVidia) or making the vidya card run so hot it causes a house fire (AMD)

The only modern games worth a shit are all console exclusives. People buying these 1k dollars builds end up playing garbage like batman, assassin's creed, shitty generic dudebro fps #45896728942374 and whatnot.

AMD 480 and 380 are two of the hottest running cards on the market. It's the cost of the higher cost to performance ratio you get for your midrange budget builds.

Exactly. Honestly I regret upgrading my 2012 pc. I should have just stayed with my ps4 and bought a huge ass tv for it and called it a day.

Gaming as a whole is just garbage as of now and we'll never relive the golden age of snes, ps1 and ps2. This hobby is the most bottom of the barrel garbage there is nowadays in the sense that we are literally the modern version of the 90's~00's tv watchers. This industry has gotten too big for its own sake so now they gotta appeal to the masses.

Games are no longer made by a bunch of passionate nerds in their garage for years on end, they are just generic products like anything else in an industry flooded with people who are just interested in money, hence why most games we get nowadays are just endless sequels rather than fresh ideas, and also why the AA industry has completely vanished. Aside from the milking of tired old franchises, you have the farse that is indie gaming, which was hailed as the savior of gaming but in the end it just turned out to be a bunch of lazy people trying to luck it out by trying to recreate the success of things such as minecraft or angry birds.

Soulsborne were pretty much the only things I enjoyed since the last gen because they remind me of an age when you had to find shit yourself and the devs weren't afraid at all to punish you for your mistakes. I'm looking forward to Nioh because the betas were amazing and also Nier Automata because I'm a huge fan of Yoko Taro. The only multiplat that I thought was worth a shit in the last years aside from dark souls was Witcher 3 and that thing might as well have been a visual novel and I wouldn't bat an eye because it's gameplay is pure fucking ass.

I'm gravitating way more towards movies, comics and books right now because this hobby is just a shallow husk of its former self.

Kids still love vidya, ask any adult who played vidya as a kid what some of their favorite memories were growing up and it will often be playing vidya with a group of friends, like halo, smah bros, whatever.all times when they still had their innocence.
I think innocence is lost at an earlier age these days due to the exposure children are faced with in social media and the way entertainment is served up, more online, less encouragement to go and socialize with your friends

You're confusing two different camps of PC gamers. Most have reasonably priced set-ups so they can play indie games as wells as any new studio releases they find interesting.

Then you have the "performance-enthusiasts" and tweakers who are more focused on getting better benchmarks and making their rig look cool.

It's like the difference between someone who buys a sporty sedan and a hot-rod enthusiast who gets off tweaking his car to get a better quarter-mile time.

Both people might claim the PC is the masterrace, but for different reasons (versatility vs. cutting edge performance).

We're actually reaching the point where indie games are frequently capable of the quality of PS1 era games and have a fair number of gems. You really shouldn't write it of that fast, as this is really causing a new Renascence of decent games in place of what you call the 'AA' games of the old era.

Kids love modern vidya because they don't know any better. You can spend 1000hrs in Skyrim or Fallout, kids love them, both are shallow ponds in terms of gameplay complexity.
Or compare Mafia 1 and Mafia 3. 8 hours of same boring gameplay won't get better if I suddenly have my innocence back.

Here's a hint, you don't need the latest and greatest hardware. My CPU and GPU came out 3 years ago and they're still kicking. Don't fall for the silicon jew's pcmasterrace bullshit, upgrade when the games you wanna play don't run anymore. All the cool games that you can't play on console are very toaster friendly. Higher end cards are for people who want to play AAA games better than consoles do.

The Witcher 3 is a pretty damn good action adventure game though, definitely get that the next time the GOTY edition goes on sale. You can play it at 60 FPS with the 480, something I dream of with my 760.

There are some nice games that will scale well with higher end cards, not necessarily PC exclusive but they do play better on a good PC:
-MGS V The Phantom Pain/Ground Zeroes
-Witcher 2/3
-Metro series
-Skyrim SE (with frostfall and some other mods it becomes pretty cozy)
-Gears of War 4 (one of the best ports of recent memory, despite being on windows store)
-Battlefield if that's your thing
