What does Sup Forums think of Sonic Lost World?
What does Sup Forums think of Sonic Lost World?
By itself. An ok game.
Going for 100%? Sucks.
Being a Sonic fan who after enjoying Sonic Color's and Generations? Awful.
It was okay. Hated the bosses though.
Most stages were fine. Bosses were terrible. Music was great! DLC was fun the first time around.
The Deadly Six shouldn't have existed.
I like it's tone and aesthetics. And the fact the bandits look just like they do in the Genesis manuals. Only in 3D.
One of my favorite Sonic games.
Really damn misguided Sonic game.
Mediocre game that fell into the same Adventure trap by tossing every gimmick they could think of at the game while giving the gimmicks zero polish and depth, the only difference is Sonic is the only playable character even though half of the gameplay is dumb gimmicks that have nothing to do with normal Sonic gameplay. It had some good ideas that could form a good game if given development and polished, but the end result with Lost World can be best described as "aggressively mediocre."
And while Sonic stories and dialogue aren't anything special to begin with, it had by far the worst story and writing in the entire franchise. Yes, worse than Heroes/Shadow/06/Boom/whatever other example you want to bring up.
It's ok. Gets a bad rap but it's not a disaster like people like to pretend it is.
Doesn't deserve all the shit it gets.
On par with 06 or Boom from a strictly design perspective. Everything about the game is scattershot and terrible except for the idea of parkour. Not even the game's implementation of parkour, just the idea of having parkour.
You have two attacks that are functionally the same except for which enemies they'll arbitrarily affect. It was apparently supposed to add depth to combat but the only thing it really adds is a 50/50 chance of eating shit whenever you see a new enemy.
All the bosses seem designed without considering the charge move that kills nearly all of them in two hits.
The level design jumps from gimmick to gimmick without a clue, some areas are about as flat as Sonic CD special stages. A lot of the cylinder stages you can run past all the hazards in a straight line without a care in the world.
The tone is similarly muddled, with Eggman telling the villains he'll rip off their heads and shit down their necks one minute and making baby jokes the next.
At launch rings didn't give you extra lives, despite this, most of the secret areas and tricky jumps rewarded you with extra rings that are worthless past the first one you collect. They eventually patched it, but it still means either they designed all these secret areas with deliberately useless rewards, or they removed the 100 ring 1-up last minute in order to make their lives preorder bonus more worthwhile. I honestly don't know which is worse.
tl;dr it's bad
>On par with 06 or Boom from a strictly design perspective.
You'd have to be retarded and lack the ability to compare things to believe this.
Lost World was mediocre at worst. 06 and Boom were trash at best.
You're comparing two games that barely work with one that works but just isn't very interesting in its execution.
>You're comparing two games that barely work with one that works but just isn't very interesting in its execution.
Try reading my post. I said it's on par strictly from a design perspective. Bugs and other technical missteps aren't a part of design. Lost World is relatively bug free but it's about as incompetently designed.
I'd actually say Lost World is on par with the Adventure games in terms of design, because Lost World tries to toss everything and the kitchen sink in the game in the hopes that something sticks, like Adventure did. The only difference is that Sonic does everything instead of there being multiple characters.
What about the 3DS one?
I stopped playing once I realized the 2d sections were my favorite part, and I could just be playing an actual 2d platformer instead like DKC
Literally the worst Sonic handheld game of all time, and this is coming from someone who suffered through whatever other game you're going to bring up. Yes, worse than Labyrinth. Yes, worse than whatever other Game Gear game you hate. Yes, worse than Chronicles or Genesis. It's that bad.
And no, I don't blame Dimps for it because they had literally 6 months to make it.
For every good idea there's a terrible one waiting right around the corner. The game falls apart after the 3rd zone.
It's an average game with nothing a whole lot special going on but people like to overrate the flaws of the game and act like it's the worst thing ever because it's now incredibly popular to hate Sonic games even when they're totally fine. Does Lost World have problems? Sure, but nothing about the game is overtly terrible, the boss fights and story are weak but basically on par with a kid's cartoon show. The gameplay is gimmicky but there's still a lot of depth to the controls and how to move around in a level (watch a speedrun of the game, there's a lot of nuances to very small shit that you'd probably miss). It adds some neat things to the series and is on the whole a worthwhile addition and a game worth playing. I hope some of the mechanics like the parkour and the kick make their way into future mainline Sonic games because they are cool features that could be greatly expanded upon should Sega take up the task. It's not gonna blow your socks off, but as long as you go in with an open mind it's a pretty 7/10 game that is still enjoyable at times with some good levels scattered throughout and good music.
>Worse that Genesis
This is a bold claim.
>but it doesn't randomly crash and it doesn't kill your loved ones so why are you guys saying it's a bad game, it's average at best
Fuck you. It's a bad game.
Also a correct claim.
Lost World makes the average Saturday morning kids cartoon look like a Pulitzer winner.
No it's not, it's a very average flawed platformer.
Exactly what I'm talking about when I said people overrate the flaws.
You know average means bad right?
No it doesn't, bad means bad.
The worst sonic game since 06
Sammy please. Don't you have a dress to wear?
I don't even know who you're talking about, fuck off faglord.
Sammy please
So unfun I'd rather play Sonic 2006 just because it was more of a Sonic game. Felt like the game was a budget title Sega was trying to get out quickly because not only are the levels badly designed, even the story and cut scenes felt rushed. You'd think with a more simple art style, more time would be spent elsewhere. Nope.
Now enjoy this picture of Super Sonic with 2 mouths because fuck effort.
I have never been so mad at a sonic game before
It's not fun and is full of abhorrent design choices
There is no good reason to require a run button
Even while running you're so slow you can barely clear gaps
They have a special 'skip to next checkpoint after 5 deaths' powerup and give you 10 lives on a game over, they fucking KNOW how often you die but rather than fixing the levels they just tried to minimise the impact of death. They even keep the music playing during a death because they knew it'd be happening so often that music restarting would be annoying and mean you heard a repeat of the first 20 seconds of each song over and over
Only really played the 3DS version
It's okay, I was surprised by the amount of content. The 2D Levels where ass tho. I would say like 30% of the levels where good and I did really enjoy those ones.
100% was not too hard in the 3DS version at least
I think it's fucking lit
>inb4 Mario is even more lit
Faggots that play sonic deserve to be shot down
>physically cannot jump over this
>touching it is instadeath
Did they even fucking test this game? There's so many little things that should have been easy to fix but they didn't
Did they just run out of time? Or do they really not give a fuck?
Not good but not as bad as people say it is either. I'm shocked people claim it's almost or just as bad as 06. Proof that people really like to over-exaggerate Sonic games. As shitty as Lost World's level design or lack of physics are, at least it's not a glitchy unfinished mess. Just misguided.
LW is defintely not a broken game, just poorly designed and executed.
Sonic 06 is ultimately the more fun experience
Fun for all the wrong reasons though. Just because you can have more fun playing 06 drunk with friends doesn't mean it's the better game.
"better" is subjective to the context.
LW is a "better" game in the context of not being a broken mess
06 is a "better" game in the context of actually having fun with what is presented to you, however internally broken it may be
The worst game I played in 2015. What a waste of effort porting this shit was. Should have ported Unleashed or Colors instead.
>real stories like in adventure and unleashed were sacrificed for this garbage because "le saturday morning cartoon is da best for sonic! xD haha its so lighthearted :)"
Would I find any enjoyment in this if I had fun with the demo?
I regret purchasing this wretched game.
Needed a lot more polish, needed a lot more levels like 2-1 or 3-1, which focused on forward movement and somewhat interesting platforming that took advantage of the game's mechanics. Getting stuck on weird, pointless gimmicks hurt the game in some areas. I'd still say it's far, far better than '06.
I don't think so. It can be a bit hard to look past '06's technical flaws to see it's core design, but even then, Sonic '06 has boss fights that involve an immense amount of waiting, character battles, which are idioitic even when they're technically functional (see: Adventure 2), the insanely stupid decision to not give Rouge a radar in Kingdom Valley, the bizarre bubble sections of Aquatic Base that have no reason to exist at all, very poorly-designed hub worlds, missions that serve extremely minimal purpose, and the mach speed sections, which have more than just technical issues.
>It's worth than Genesis
It's really not. Genesis takes what is an already mediocre game and mangles it into a nearly unplayable state. Lost World 3D has issues that lead it to be kind of boring, but Sonic still controls reliably and the soundtrack doesn't make my ears bleed.
The first level is by far the best one, and I assume that's the one in the demo
shit...
Sonic controls better in it, very sharp but the level design is ass so what's the point?
Probably. The levels that are like the early ones aren't as common as they should be, though.
It's only fun if you forget about 100% the game. If you try to do that, you end up going super slow and everything will suck.
Just go fast friend and don't worry about anything else.
It was an ok game, unless you try to go for the Red Rings. Still more enjoyable than Sonic 4 as a whole.
>lets make every tubular
>but let's also make the flattest blandest levels in Sonic history
It's ass.
The Sonic Boom cartoon is OBJECTIVELY the best executed sonic narrative
Fuck off
Sonic boom is complete shit, every facet of it. The show is so unfunny and awkward to watch
>he's too autistic to appreciate deadpan humor
I would say that the Sonic OVA had the most compelling "narrative".
Really surreal/mysterious world and a very engaging conflict between Sonic and Metal Sonic that ends in a fantastic way.
This game would be so good if the level design was great. It's a shame really.
If it was actually funny it would be humor but its not. Its awkward low budget animation with shit writing that makes even the most die hard sonic fan cringe. You know what good deadpan was? Orbot in unleashed low key telling eggman he was an idiot failure
Can someone post that green chick? I find green chicks VERY hot.
It was a decent game. Amazing soundtrack. Had some shoddy execution and some unnecessary gimmicks, but overall there's a great Sonic game in there somewhere. It's also the first time in years Sonic has actually felt like an actual 3D platformer, though you could argue whether it's a good transition of 2D Sonic gameplay into 3D or not.
It's kind of a shame they're either going back to boost or re-inventing the wheel, because the potential is there for a good game.
I'd still say Lost World is better in that regard in that even the gimmicks are usually related to the main gameplay in some way.
Adventure literally throws entire genre shifts at you for padding.
It hasnt been THAT long since 3D platforming in sonic was a thing
Boost gameplay is objectively a better application of the sonic concept than lost world. Reaction based precision platforming is better than impossibly slow """parkour"""
It's not really that slow, though? It certainly kicks along at a faster pace than the average Mario game, and those games aren't terribly slow, either.
I can't find it.
Huge momentum killer for the series. Great music.
The idea of changing Sonic's speed by holding a button was a good one but it was implemented very badly.
>and the mach speed sections, which have more than just technical issues.
I think if you remove the technical issues, the mach speed sections become pretty good. Also it would've been nice if they told the player that light speed dash will immediately center you again.
Running in Lost World is slow enough to make the simple task of clearing gaps excruciatingly difficult at times.
I don't have footage on hand to prove which is faster, let's assume LW is.
I would argue that even if LW sonic's still faster than mario, mario's level design is much more saturated and compacted so that while movement is slower, reaching the next "thing" takes less time.
Lost World was full of wide open expanses of literal nothingness, and it took more physical time to get anywhere regardless of the faster speed of movement.
>Yes, worse than Chronicles
You can't just throw that shit around willy-nilly, man.
>Running in Lost World is slow enough to make the simple task of clearing gaps excruciatingly difficult at times.
So then spindash? There was no point in my playtime of Lost World that a gap was even remotely challenging to get across, since the spindash conserves momentum when you jump out of it.
>the spindash conserves momentum when you jump out of it.
Not if you double jump
Unleashed had the best tone, story and cast in any Sonic game.
2017 might be fucking lit, though.
I would say that a lot of the boost games are more memorization-based platforming than reaction based. You'll be fucking up hardcore your first time through.
This isn't really a bad thing, though. Mega Man made a franchise off of this approach.
No? You still keep momentum when double-jumping. You'll lose it upon hitting the ground since Sonic returns to running rather than spindashing, but that's not the issue, here.
just play colors and generations
Fair point - they're reaction based when you first play and learn the levels, but they're ultimately memorization based once you're trying for leaderboard times. I'd argue that most games become that once you enter speedrun territories of optimising fastness, though clearly some games are designed more for that than others
>lit
What did he mean by this?
Seriously, what the fuck does "lit" mean?
It's a black male thing.
>colors
mah nigga
and unleashed
>and unleashed
It's not worth it. Unleashed does the same shit that every other Sonic before it did and pads the game out with stupid shit to make it a "full game", when you really just want to do the Sonic shit.
Download the Unleashed mod for Generations.
nah shut the fuck up. unleashed is great and totally worth playing. that mod is shit, worse graphics and game feels worse somehow.
Colors has the best sanic soundtrack
>unleashed is great and totally worth playing
Yeah, if you enjoy the game wasting your fucking time. Werehog gets old very fast and becomes a slog. The hubs are comfy but really serve no other point but to slow you down. Medals are tedious. There's no point.
>worse graphics
Pretty sure you can use the Unleashed renderer and that they even updated some of the textures.
ill tell you what wasted my time and became a slog. every act in colors that isnt act 1.
>hubs slow you down
no shit, the point of the game is world travelling and seeing different sights as its pieced back together. even then they can be as short 5 seconds. some slow down that it is as your autism adhd will only let you race to the end of a game, everything else be damned.
>the point of the game is world travelling and seeing different sights as its pieced back together
Then the game should do a better job of making me give a shit. There are plenty of hubs in many other games that are far more interesting and make the player actually want to explore them.
There's barely anything to find in Unleashed's hubs, and even then Sonic controls like ass in them so all you end up wanting to do is get to the next level.
haha holy fuck
you clearly havent played the game, im just gonna stop here. go back to colors kid. if waggling your wii remote to use a shitty powerup in a flat boring 2D level is your pinnacle of sonic, i wont stop you
It's ok.
I never said shit about Colors, but it at least trims the fat a little. The level design is probably the most disappointing part about the game, but at least you know what you're getting the entire game.
Yeah, Unleashed is "comfy". I get it. What's the fucking point though?
SM64, Banjo-Kazooie, Crash, Spyro, etc. all have far more interesting and interconnected worlds to explore. It's not a chore to progress either. Levels open up naturally as you play the game and you're basically encouraged to play the game at your own pace and how you want to. Unleashed does none of that. It's another case of Sonic Team saying "fuck you" and making you play the game exactly how they want you to like in SA1, SA2, etc. Which is sad because classic Sonic games are great for letting you play the games how you want to. Look at CD. You can blast through or you can find everything. Different ways to play without having to completely change how the game is played.
You can barely walk into a new section without a damn loading screen in Unleashed.
I don't hate Unleashed. I want to like it. It's just a fucking slog.
this is one of the most frustrating levels ever made by humans. They allowed 1/2 a pixel of wiggle room to clear those insta death bomb carts.
I liked the WiiU version a lot more than the 3DS version. The handheldversion went overboard with some of the gimmicks and slowed the game way down. It took me double the time to beat the handheld version but only because of tedious shit.
In the grande scheme of things it's one of the better 3D sonic games. After Generations (both versions) a let down but after Sonic Boom I went back and replayed it again on PC and appreciated it a lot more.
git gud
