Yes since UT is free and it supports user created maps and mods
Delusional
People will always flock to the free game thats a fact
No, it killed itself by having a drm client that controls the game and not a game that includes a client.
Isn't UT too hard for the casual masses? OW fits the bill better for them.
>an Unreal Tournament game
>that isn't UT99 or UT2004
It's already dead.
I love UT but this game is dead as fuck. Nobody cares about arena shooters any more. Move on.
UT is easy to learn. Unless you're a pleb
Then how is overwatch surviving
>UT2k4
Thats why its dead before arival. Anything past ut99 is cancerous.
Overwatch isn't an arena shooter. It's a class based shooter.
hasn't the new unreal has been out for awhile now?
i just don't see a reason to leave ut2004 though.
>oberbotch
>arena
HA HA HA.
I've been playing and it's surprisingly fun.
I don't think you can really compare the two though. Overwatch and UT are completely different games.
Can I play as a cute girl?
I tried UT201X last month, thought it ran well, had interesting and fun movement options. However, no one was playing it. Game was pretty bare bones too țbh. Wouldn't play it given the choice between it and other games in my possession.
The user driven content is a nice ideal tho.
it's still in alpha. Once the full game is released and advertised it will attract more players. And the fact that it's free makes it even better
- It has no marketing
- It's barely even in active development
- Arena shooters are dead
- The UT brand means nothing to younger players
- The FPS market is oversaturated
- Unless there's some kind of modern matchmaking system the skill gap between players will be off-putting to newcomers
it's been in alpha for like 2 fucking years. How many devs are actively working on it?
I want UT to be great. UT99/UT2k4 was once the DEFACTO PC game, and inspired hundreds of gamers to making gaming their career choice. I want that to happen again with UT201X
The new UT is fun once you get an idea of movement and good teammateas. But the player base is so low there it's frustrating trying to get good. But oh so worth it.
>dat feel when shockcomboing your teammate over a wall to score the last point
I think it's dead in the water. They aren't doing much development wise except tweaking shit that's already there.
Fuck that. The game doesn't need tweaking, it needs CONTENT
UT2004 was so alive we got like 2 retail games out of the modding scene.
>it's been in alpha for like 2 fucking years
That's typical for a standard video game dev cycle.
Usually when "public alphas/betas" for big games come out, they've already been in development for 2 years. It takes a lot to build a game from scratch
So why is it dead
Fair enough. My concern is that the game will not get developer/consumer attention it needs to succeed.
Have they replaced all the UT3 weapon models yet?
This (and Quake Champions) will kill Overwatch like HotS killed DotA - not at all. You're too late to the battle, the war is already over.
I have real fond memories with UT2003/2004, hope this turns out to be good
Why are these games ded on Steam? With multiplayer functionality you'd except much more people playing it
>It takes a lot to build a game from scratch
The UT4 dev team didn't need to make the engine. Or design the game modes or weapons. They've made FPS games before and they have the old UTs as a template so they know what they want to program. Their biggest job is to design and create new art assets and levels.
They already doomed the game. To have a succesful game you absolutely need a Steam release of it. Only a big ass company like Blizzard or EA can have non-steam games out there.
Yeah when it's actually out. They really need to pick up the pace.
>TFW can't into C++ or Maya so can't do it for them
Wait, it's not going to be on Steam?
Just download some mods and you can play as whoever you want.
they should put it on steam desu
it's good but not many people really want to have to make another account and download yet another client for one game
t. shitter who never played any of the games.
What if you could play a game on PC without having to use ANY extraneous digital platforms? Why the fuck is this so hard, why can't I boot the game and access the online without bullshit?
I have tried the new UT from time to time over the past two years, it has potential but nowhere near what I expect an UT game to be, and I don't hunk it ever will.
It will never have the same massive amount of content as UT2004. It will never have the same game modes, amount of characters, mutators, maps etc.
which sucks because I really miss a game like ut2004 updated with snazzy new features and built on UE4.
Heck they are even streamlining weapon alt fires because "hurrrr data shows it's rarely used". Like the rocket launcher alt fire.
All it needs is an UI Facelift and a Steam Release with Workshop and it'll probably get a massive boost in popularity.
It'll even let Valve sneak paid workshop mods back in to the ecosystem.
>Twitch shooter
>Killing casul FPS
Yeah, and Battlerite will kill LoL and Dota2
Theoretically but you'd have to make her yourself.
>it's been in alpha for like 2 fucking years. How many devs are actively working on it?
I think ~8-10. It's basically a skeleton crew. The bulk of Epic works on supporting the engine. The plan was to have the community to step in and do shit for them steam workshop style but bugger all people have.
>The two series that were born from UT mods are now more popular than UT
It's more that a shit ton of people use steam. Vs praying that someone notices the new UT out of the 50 million other things on the web.
I tried it like 5 months ago, got bored pretty quick. There was like one or two player models and only a few maps if I remember right.
Why do games have to "Kill" other games?
no, because a solid portion of Overwatch players are people who literally only play Blizzard games. No non-blizzard game, regardless of if its better or not, will ever pry them away from it.
>Heck they are even streamlining weapon alt fires because "hurrrr data shows it's rarely used"
Something is wrong with the people playing UT4 because that was never the case for the previous games.
They keep making retarded pointless changes out of nowhere and that no one fuckin asked for, alienating oldskool UT players while pandering to a demograhic that doesn't care about arena shooters anyway, the game suffers from an identity problem and slow development and doesn't really care what the community thinks, it's already dead and i have way more hopes for something like Quake Champions, which is actually being developed by a team and not just guys who take it as some pastime hobby.
>Heck they are even streamlining weapon alt fires because "hurrrr data shows it's rarely used". Like the rocket launcher alt fire.
Yep they trying to make this "safeplay" no fun allowed kind of shit a la overwatch, i hope the game fails for betraying the core UT gameplay which was all about fun and less try harding.
>because a solid portion of Overwatch players are people who literally only play Blizzard games. No non-blizzard game, regardless of if its better or not
I swear I will never understand why this is a thing
Because it streamlines community management. Otherwise you have to go back to a bunch of external stuff which nobody can be fucked to use anymore. Everyone wants their stats tracked so they can dickwave to their friends list, then right click and invite them to a game rather than alt tab to AIM and send them an IP
>core UT gameplay which was all about fun and less try harding.
How do you explain the popularity of instagib servers?
All I wanted was UT2004 with better graphics. I could do without the vehicles even, just gimme the UT2003/4 gameplay with all the fun characters, colorful maps and multitudes of game modes.
I played every UT game to death and back, but nuUT really put me off. I had really hoped it would work out, but with each update it's mostly just UT in name.
Last time I booted it up about a week ago they had changed many weapons. Like the impact hammer is gone because "derp it confuses players"
A game doesn't need to be easy to be popular. All it needs is fun gameplay and other shitters of the same level playing the game.
Wait, it's just gone? The basic weapon that was in UT99, 2k3, and 2k4 wasn't it? Jesus. How did they screw up the rocket launchers alt attack too? I used to love that thing.
The grenades on the UT3/4 rocket launcher sucked. They were removed in 2k4 and put on the assault rifle and in 4 they have been put on a seperate grenade launcher. They worked in 99 because you could lob 6 rapesticks down a hall way and isntakill someone on 200health with shieldbelt. That doesn't work in this one and the bounces made them too unpredictable and shit. Removing the impact hammer from DM was fucking retarded though and everyone gave them shit for that.
Like how do you explain the popularity of gungame in CS 1.6? That didn't mean CS source should have been focused on gungame modes.
There was always room for people who loved vanilla UT and those who preferred instagib.
Impact Hammer was replaced with the Shield Gun in 2003/4 which was basically just the hammer with a different alt fire.
>The modding scene is stuck with bethesda and minecraft due to the audience of autists despite the shitty conditions and support; or just jumped ship into indie games development.
Why the fuck is life so shit? It's not even cruel it's just straight up retarded.
Where did they say this?
I think we can all agree that the Assault Rifle was one of the few genuinely awful things about 2004. I know you can kill people with it but it's a really unsatisfying and awkward weapon to use.
Check the video: epicgames.com
so are they bringing back vehicles?
or is this just going to be a straight arena shooter
If anything it might steal away that booming market of BRs and Russians who only play OW during free weekends.
I think I hated the UT3 pistol more but yeah it was pretty shit. The enforcer in UT4 is pretty based though except it lacks the sideways fire and now looks like a bolt-pistol from 40k instead of a 2000AD weapon.
Someone is working on it but it isn't a priority,
People with shit taste and a lack of patience, addicted to quick frags and scores and the reason why we can't have good CTF servers anymore. Instashit became popular only when UT was already dead, just roaches feeding on a dead corpse.
UT2004 is one of the games with most content ever made, makes stuff like Halo look bad, we will never see something like that for an arena shooter again.
Not enough gamers to keep both communities alive
How big does/should a community actually be?
That's like saying Pepsi co is going bankrupt because there are millions of people who prefer Coca Cola.
UT2004 definitely feels like a miracle compared to industry conventions today. The fucking rebate, nobody would do that now.
>Generic Grenade Launcher with Stickies
when is the unreal roleplay server coming online
i want some poz soldier to shoot the goo gun into my neg soldier butthole
no
how does this gun work in real life?
If its like 99 or 04, no because people like shit games nowadays and dont give a fuck about good map design and fast competitive gameplay. FPS are dead and casuals control the market.
>have this smug level of "i'm better than you because i like this"
>wonder why community is dying compared to games where people just play whatever they want without being judged
Nice, a whole video about how to kill all the interest this thread might had awoken in me due to a massive nostalgia boner for UT.
pull trigger shoot bullet
>Casuals rule the market
>Overwatch players constantly bitching about Comp play
It's the same as dota. If it's so casual why are people tryharding the fuck out of it? What's the point?
The same effect it had on me. You are welcome.
mobas and casuals
its like this decade of new pc gamers just don't care about certain genres at all
This. I don't think a 2k4 style modding scene is even possible these days. Everyone is either doing their own shit for profit or pandering to horsefuckers.
I rather would see arena shooter die than turned into only Instashit servers playing the same as freakin maps everyday, there is nothing more sad than looking at all the content and dead servers no one even bothers trying because HURRR i gotta have my quick MLG frags at instagib, adding instagib this soon was also a mistake, the game community isn't as big to support it, testing the core modes should have been top priority.
speaking of the ut2004 assault rifle, does anyone else use the dual version as it's default? its still really bad but slightly better.
>I swear I will never understand why this is a thing
Because it's a concurrent community. If they want to go to another game they have to start over with a bunch of hostile strangers who have their own memes and nuances. That and there are a lot of artfags who don't like playing videogames but like drawing the stuff IN videogames. This is especially the case with overwatch.
>All I wanted was UT2004 with better graphics
Same but at this stage I'll even settle with just more people playing UT2004 too
Then what will these billzardfags do when Activision axes blizzard. Don't say it won't happen because it will
Both UT2004 and UT classic had a slight number increase after Halloween patch for UT4, hope that sends the message how much shitty work they are doing.
All I need is one active public server for Bombing Run. But I can't have even that.
Damn I miss bombing run. That was my shit in UT2003
Move on with their lives? Same thing everyone else does when their community goes. Some go of and join new ones, others go found replacements with varying degrees of success. Others stop all together or some will just come here and bitch and gripe for all eternity because thats what gets them off.
We want competitive games!
oh but that's a bit TOO competitive...
>Move on with their lives
Ha you would have though. WoW fans said they would rage if activision/blizzard were to ever shutdown the servers
Why would Activision axe Blizzard? The company name has tons of brand recognition and they're still making one of the most popular MMOs on the market. They'd keep the Blizzard name even if everyone working for Blizzard collectively quit tomorrow because of the marketing power alone.
They were conditioned by WoW, which is less a game and more a greatest hits mix of all your favourite psychology studies on obedience and addiction.
No, no one is interested in hardcore arena shooters
youtu.be
Something like this I imagine.
Blizzardfags are the cancer of the gaming industry. I hope activision/blizzard just dies with their cod/ WoW releases ever year
