Just marathoned these for the first time.
I give the first one a 8/10 the stealth elements kind of blew, but everything else was pretty great.
The second one id have to give a 9/10 they improved a lot of the shit from the first one, also dem titties.
For both of them though I was bothered by everyone speaking with Russian accents, and not just speaking Russian. Unless there is a real reason for it. Also how can Artyom be twenty in game, but like 5-7 in his flashbacks before the bombs fell, if the war was in 2013?
What was y'all's initial thoughts, and what are hoping for if they make a third one? I hope for a more open world, not sandbox, but I wanna go around doing Ranger things and such.

>I was bothered by everyone speaking with Russian accents, and not just speaking Russian
Why didn't you switch to Russian audio then?
Many of Artyom's flashbacks are given to him by the ghosts inhabiting the area he is in when he gets them, eg the plane flashback. Remember that in the Metro universe Heaven and Hell no longer exist.
>REDUX versions
you done goofed.
>LL
>improved in any form
No, that shit was the reason even the original was downgraded to casual consolitis levels in the REDUX port.
>For both of them though I was bothered by everyone speaking with Russian accents, and not just speaking Russian.
Use Russian audio, moron. Unless they removed that too in the REDUX versions?
Fuck off shill
>I give the first one a 8/10 the stealth elements kind of blew
Play the first game, and I mean the original first game. Stealth is better.
>I was bothered by everyone speaking with Russian accents, and not just speaking Russian.
Switch to Russian audio and English subs. The Russian voice acting is great.
> I hope for a more open world, not sandbox
I like the linear formula. Did you play the DLCs in LL? There's experimentation with less linear level design in there.
But seriously, play the original 2033.
2033 is literally one of the worst games I have ever played through. Bland ugly visuals. Worthless boring guns. Nothing but one long corridor. Pointless idiotic mechanics- batteries, filters, pneumatic bullshit (kek). Irritating as fuck pacing- forced to wait for people to finish talking in order to advance the game, forced to wait for walking partners, forced to wait for AI to open doors for you, that awful librarian section, etc. Game is constantly taking control away from you in order to force it's narrative on you.
All this trash and I still have to play through LL.
I had no idea I could do that. I will now when I play Spartan mode. Although hearing Strive Blum play every Russian male was hilarious.
I thought the first was better than the second.
The seconds level design was meant to be ghosted through with the piss easy stealth system in the game so enemies were always spaced far apart or there are always obvious hiding and sneaking spots. Also the climbing the tower in the first game was amazing while the bullshit train in the second game was just boring.
The characters in the background don't have subtitles for their audio so you can't understand them
>you can't understand them
Only if you don't know Russian.
What's wrong with REDUX versions?
>The characters in the background don't have subtitles for their audio so you can't understand them
You don't need to. They just blabbering some rubbish about kids, death, monsters.
What is different on the original versions? I got to the library on 360, and don't remember the stealth being better.
I liked the linear levels as well, I guess it's I just want a open world game like that, where I can just scavenge for supplies, and survive. And I'm not talking about fallout.
Nothing just autism
-Ranger Hardcore is literal DLC
-Enemy AI is binary ON/OFF, and totally blind & deaf most of the time.
-More ammo, because "muh dakka".
-Less traps and other environmental things, because causals.
-Downgraded visuals, because consoles.
The original has
>uglier graphics in that monsters look really alien and nasty and people look like they went through a grinder
>gunplay was more tense since it wasn't as good
>less resources scattered
>stealth system was inconsistent but that made it harder and not brain dead easy like in the new one
>crashes like a motherfucker
The AI wasn't half blind and deaf, and actually possessed more challenge because of that.
If you want far superior "METRO" game in open world maps, play STALKER trilogy.
In the Redux you play redlight/greenlight with your watch. You are either visible, or you are not. It works the same on the surface in 2033, but you're either visible (red), partly visible (yellow), or not very visible at a distance (green). You also have to watch for things on the floor that you can step on and make noise. Additionally, half-way through the game you can purchase either an armored suit that makes stealth harder but gives you more damage protection or a stealth suit that does the opposite. Also the lighting lends itself better for stealth.
Ranger mode was DLC in the first game too. It was free on PC and like $5 on Xbox.
>Ranger mode was DLC in the first game too
No, it was not.
And I'm talking about THE original, Metro 2033 , no the REDUX versions that are just all around shit.
Yes, it was.

>marathoned
Greetings, fa/tv/irgin.
>free patch on PC
>"DLC"
does that even count? Don't care what 360-fags had to do or pay for it.
DLC stands for Downloadable Content. People had to download this content to play it.
>Don't care what 360-fags had to do or pay for it.
Nice backpedal. Have a Bourbon.
No, it's Disc Locked Content.
As in, the shit was already with the game, but you pay to devs to unlock it.
I don't give a shit how people have butchered the term later on.
>Nice backpedal.
Nice ignoring all the other criticism. No one on PC master side even knew a basic, well received FEATURE was a day 1 patch.
>Tfw we'll probably never get another Metro game due the Ukrainian civil war
Thanks obama
They moved to Cyprus.
And it's not civil war.
>this reveals the bait
Nobody has ever called DLC Disc Locked Content. You are literally making that up.
>No one on PC master side even knew a basic, well received FEATURE was a day 1 patch.
2033 was released March 16, 2010. Ranger Mode was released September 8th on PC. Day one patch huh?
This is shitty bait but I like Metro threads.
imagine actually being this guy
Should be noted I played this on PS4, which brings me to another question. Does the PC versions demons have that weird glitch, when they pick you up and drop you, you kind of slide across the ground and just looks stupid?
But I will try STALKER, I wanna get spooked, and survive.
>Nobody has ever called DLC Disc Locked Content. You are literally making that up.
Go back to school, child.
At least know your favorite hobby's history.
i think this poor user has confused "on disc dlc" with dlc
>Additionally, half-way through the game you can purchase either an armored suit that makes stealth harder but gives you more damage protection or a stealth suit that does the opposite.
I haven't played 2033 in years, so maybe I'm just forgetting or I just overlooked the armors, but I don't think I ever knew this. Pretty neat though.
It sucks to hear that the Redux versions got dumbed down quite a bit, I've got a friend playing through both games and it seems like the simpler stealth and less hazards might dull the experience a bit.
>or I just overlooked the armors
That's very likely. You buy them in the Armory after you meet Andrew from a merchant squatting in the corner. Lots of people miss him on their first playthrough. You can also buy the armored suit when you get to Polis.
I didn't miss him, but I did not buy anything from him, because I was piss poor, and I found the basic setup to be the most balanced as well. Why drop either or of the stats, if your starting clothes provide good 50-50 capabilities?
I don't think it was ever confirmed but I think I read that Artyom's regular clothes are a middle ground.
>You buy them in the Armory after you meet Andrew from a merchant squatting in the corner.
Neat, I've been thinking of replaying 2033 and LL so I'll remember that if I do play through them. I wanted to try out one of the Ranger modes, likely Ranger easy just to challenge myself without making things too difficult.
>Why drop either or of the stats, if your starting clothes provide good 50-50 capabilities?
Specialization. If you want to do a pure-stealth run, it's a no brainer to get the stealth suit for 100% stealth capabilities, and likewise for pure-combat.
That's what I assumed from the general descriptions of the two alternative suits, with both increasing & dropping stealth and armor stats.
true that, but I'd guess most people would rather be jack-of-all-trades the first time around, just to be sure.
I simply prefer 2033 for the much bleaker atmosphere.
You play as a boy coming of age into man rather than a ranger military badass (at least not until the end of the game).
There's a force threatening to wipe out all remaining humans not just warring factions.
Fascists are ridiculous in their delusion and more fearsome for it than their full on nazi parody in LL. Ammo and filters are genuinely scarce, gas mask, lighter, flashlight and weapon systems are more cumbersome which increases the tension.
You don't get to have sexy times, the whore mugs you, Bourbon dies, monsters overrun the station you tried to defend killing and probably raping all the women and children inside...
>Play 2033
>Pay for the whore and get mugged
>Lesson learned, move on
>Play LL
>Find the whore
>Mfw
Fool me once, shame on you...
I really enjoyed the first game, and was also enjoying the second until i got stuck on one part. I was in one of the tunnels and i couldn't find my way out, and with no air filters left i just kept dying before i could find a way
You can use one filter almost indefinitely if you just keep putting gasmask on and off.
Dunno if they fixed that exploit in LL though.
