It's not, my parents have worked in prisons all their lives and they've seen several cases where a pedophile gets the shit beaten out of them for being a pedophile. If it's a big, national case they're generally held in either the ward for the insane because the people there are too drugged to do much of anything, or they're held in solitary if the risk is too big.

It's mostly because "regular" crime can be seen as honourable or at least worthy of respect, but a sexual offence, especially pedophilia, is a whole different story.
