No
yes
Nah, they're fun. Pic related is god-tier
Altered Beast tho, that's a pile of dog shit.
They're so dead I can't even remember the name of the best beatemup game that I playes countless of hours with as a kid, where my brother would never ever let me play as Arthur.
That shit right here is the best one.
Fuck yeah
Mariah best thief.
Knights of the round? I never beat it.
Also haven't seen any new beat 'em up in years, anybody knows of a good, recent one?
If you are talking about the big names yeah, they are dead.
Only a small series from that era still lives, but in a low profile, the Kunio-kun / River City series that ArcSys bought from Technos.
Outside that there's only small stuff Indies make on Steam.
>elf and dwarf are separate classes
That's is hilariously racist.
Musous, Devil May Cry and it's clones ARE modern beat em ups
Japan more or less took Musous as its spiritual sucessor for the genre, that's why they are mostly dead.
And they're dead except for Musous
Vanillaware are still trying to merge '80s beat 'em ups with RPG mechanics
Better downloadan arcade emulator right now and beat that shit. The fact that you could upgrade your gear when leveling was insane to me back then.
I'd say they are more of side-scrolling adventure games though.
Dragons Crown
No. Play DFO
Yakuza games exist boi
I tried to force myself 3 times to play it. Game sucks dick.
This. It's an example of devs' retarded mentality that a type of game can "replace" another, completely different one. Like MOBA replacing RTS
or 3D platformers overtaking 2D ones during 5th/6th gen
I'd like to say no, but Bayonetta 2 sold like shit, so probably.
MOTHER RUSSIA BLEEDS
It's extensive focus on combat doesn't make it a beat em' up.
This thread reminded me of that crowd funded shaq fu game.
youtube.com
The facebook page insists this game is not dead yet. Even if they only made 3 posts about the game this year and they are completely silent everywhere else.
>It's extensive focus on combat
What
This cover oozes awesome.
They're only alive as generic hentai you-fall-to-the-ground-you-get-raped games. That's how dead they are.
Kunio-kun games are still getting made, it is the sole survivor.
River City Ransom: Underground
...
Is shit on single player
Elves are sluts.
Fucking loved that one.
>fan-made trash when official games are still being pumped out.
CN: Battlecrashers was just released and is a beatemups, so maybe yes .
>implying I don't enjoy both
>especially when the fan-made one is supported by the official guys
Does MP somehow make it better? I played it and the mechanics are shallower than the classic beat em ups while also having a bunch of annoying shit
Tedious janky mess. At least it didn't have rpg mechanics I guess.
>Pure Elf called a slut
>Whore thief not mentioned
wtf user
>magic user
>not wizard or sorcerer
Sengoku 3 is one of the more underrated beat em ups.
Also, reminder that Guardian Heroes is up on Xbone BC.
don't forget dragon crown.
>Beat em up thread
>No OVALTEEN.
Shame.
Yes, because they're too basic and shallow in their mechanics. You've played one beat em up, you've pretty much played em all. And there were hardly any worth playing outside of Capcom and Konami's.
The genre stagnated and died also what said.
Dante with the starter weapons and only base moves is more complex than 99% of all beat em ups.
Even newer ones like Castle Crashers suffer from this.
I think that DFO is the closest thing to an attempt to do something new with the genre.
With Game Maker going free I'm in the early stages of making a hentai beat'em up/platform/sidescrolling thing. I'll be animating hi-res 2d a la KOF 13.
Tags will include: orc; elf; rape; slave collector; slave training
You can revive beat-em ups by making punch and kick separate buttons. Imafine all the combos you could make.
>With Game Maker going free I'm in the early stages of making a hentai beat'em up/platform/sidescrolling thing. I'll be animating hi-res 2d a la KOF 13.

RIP user, he never made a video game.
Does anyone have that beat-em-up infograph with all the different types of games? I need some inspirations.
>Sengoku 3 is one of the more underrated beat em ups.
Muh fucking nigga. AvP is also a damn fine game.
A new Kunio Kun just came out in Japan.
This is on Wii u and I never have anybody to play with
...
That's the terminology they used in AD&D 1st edition, which is also where Dwarves and Elves were classes, and the concept of Race in-game wasn't a thing.
Is this game fun for a single player? I've never managed to fuck around with it.
Also I just beat this recently and it was stupid fun. Game's real underrated.
...
You should definitely try it if you are a fan of the genre.
Is getting the steam version worth it or am I better off just emulating it? I'm not even sure which emulators support it.
Just grab it on arcade emulator mame. The steam version is fine if you feel the need to pay for it later on though.
how was chronic blunt punch?
DFO fucking sucks. Walk into a room blow your load and repeat until cap. Then you grind until fully geared. Done? Now do it on another character.
Not to mention how people hype pvp but it sucks dick. It's obvious the game wasn't built around it.
>he's not aware of how D&D used to do classes
PvP's fine...if you live in Korea
It sucks even without lag.
>I'll be animating hi-res 2d a la KOF 13.
See you in 5 years.
MOther russia bleeds or some shit like that.
More beat em ups are coming out now than they were for like a decade, there's been a bit of a resurgence. And they're good games too. Of course it's not one of the AAA pillars like they used to be, but far from dead.
Beat em ups are always been rubbish.
Besides Streets of Rage 3 name a single beat em up that was fun to play after the 10 minutes mark.
I enjoyed playing basically all of them to completion. Anything made by Capcom, Technos, Konami, Sega, they were all fun. But you're just going to say everything was shit because you don't like it so whatever.
Play DFO. It actually plays like a beatemup when you're on seasonal mode.
This is honestly the best beat-em up game that ever existed but for some reason everyone thinks TNMT is the one because they didn't play this one.
Almost any Kunio game
DFO and Dragon's Crown are the only good ones I've played in quite some time.
I don't know if I would say it's the best because it's not as mechanically complex or interesting as like Final Fight 2/3 or Street of Rage 2/3, but it is a fucking incredible game and an amazing attempt at bringing D&D into a video game format. Also, it would be crazy to say it's the best game when Dragon's Crown is the unofficial sequel and trumps it in every way.
What about Scott Pilgrim and Double Dragon Neon?
Seasonal server really makes the game feel different, maybe better if it weren't for the blatant imbalance towards multihit classes. Just the bump in difficulty and extra mob attacks is enough to make it feel like a new game.
Mother Russia bleeds
Yes, very much so. Once you understand how the controls work you can absolutely wreck levels and bosses without so much as a scratch.
Ninja is the best, he hits like a fuckin truck.
castle crashers is the last beatem up I played, there was another one made by the same company or maybe another indie company but I forgot the name
>Sengoku 3
one of the best
truly shameful that nobody talks about it
SP got delisted and didn't really hold up when I went back to it recently.
Neon is fun but it's more built around the dodging/gleam mechanics than a traditional DD. The soundtrack is seller though.
Streets of Rage. Streets of Rage 2. Undercover Cops. Motherfuckin Die Hard Arcade.
this is a very good one
no, I'm not joking
>ctrl+f
>armored warriors
>0 results
anons, please
guldin > fordy = reptos >>> blodia
The die hard arcade beat em up was GOAT. Also Fighting Force. What was that arcade Alien v. Predator one called?
it's my favorite, probably
BTW monster hunter fans, look in the top right corner of this:
>Alien v. Predator
Just Aliens vs Predator user. It's a bit long in the tooth for my tastes but it plays like a dream.
besides "muh dick" I never understood the point of the thief
anything she can do it feels like other characters can do better
You can loop the fucking airthrow?
Backstabs and stealing mostly. I think in the beat em up they can lockpick chests so you don't need a key to open them.
muh dick
also it's pretty fun to turn your back to enemies, roll through their attacks, and backstab them
her firebombs are useful
opening chests for free is alright
double jump is fun
i like the sling
Beat-em-ups with RPG elements are a blight to the genre. You time your movements correctly and learn the enemy's pattern, not level up your attack stats and beat bosses in one hit. It doesn't work that way.
you can backstab in shadow of mystaria?
maybe it is because I always played multiplayer and we both charged like reatrds into the enemy without thinking
>No beat 'em up where you're the xenomorph
I just want to terrorize humans and predators again like I did in AVP 2. Is that so much to ask?
Knights of the Round was cool too
>tfw you grow up and realize how fucking awful a genre is that you played when you were younger
Beatemups are all trash with the exception of caddys and dinos, and that AVP beatemup arcade game because it had somewhat varied gameplay beyond punch the thing.
Boss fights were too easy. Just block and counter over and over.
I don't know
