Vita was never in danger in Japan, though. Unlike the 3DS that people bought for maybe couple of games and nothing else. You should really compare hardware vs software sales for both portables and have a good laugh.

Just a reminder that PS3 is still getting new games like Blazblue, Persona 5, Fifa 17, and Tales of Berseria while Wii U is already discontinued.

There are people who want to own a PS4 along with a Xbone. As well they are brain dead enough to pay for both online services.

Portables in the US mostly only appeal to children, and parents aren't gonna buy the one that costs $200 plus however much those memory cards are.

Aside from portables being seen as Nintendo territory Sony went with with a "we'll make Vita home to AAA exclusives" strategy that backfired. If anything Vita in the west suffers from perceived failure even though it has crazy good retention rate apparently.
