Serious question, why only 30 games? Why not every NES and Famicom game ever made? It'd still be less than 1 gigabyte.
Serious question, why only 30 games? Why not every NES and Famicom game ever made? It'd still be less than 1 gigabyte
because other games can be sold as dlc
Licensing. Every non Nintendo game is still a game Nintendo has to pay to get into the console.
I know living in an era where it's a trivial amount of effort to steal every NES game ever made and play it on whatever device you feel like might cloud your perspective, but you do realize Nintendo has to pay for licensing, right?
This.
Third party or second party games would have to have royalties paid and licenses renewed
>Not just emulating and getting a USB NES controller
it would be a licensing nightmare and economically non-viable
uh why would I get a PC? I already have a laptop.
You still have that ability, just get a USB controller modeled after the NES controller and you're set.
>So they can release another one down the road
>So they can still sell those games for 5 burgers each on Virtual Console
>Devs want to hold some of their games hostage like Contra 1
>Needing to pay for the rights for every single game included would be a nightmare
>Why would I get a computer that can run NES emulators? I already have a computer that can run NES emulators
to be fair it should have every game made and owned by Nintendo on it
what? you do realize that its developers that pay to get their games on consoles right? companies loose money on making consoles and get it back through game sales, just fucking look up game royalties.
Who gives a shit.
The mini console will look great in a shelf or something and the controller can be used on a Wiimote connected to the PC to play all the NES library with the corresponding controller.
The whole thing about this is that it's a christmas present gadget. It's not something designed for the hardcore audience in that they would more than likely just emulate the games they want to play. This is for an uncle to buy his kids to play the games he grew up with or for a wife to buy her husband because he's into video games and it's a cute little collectable.
But you wouldn't understand that, would you Sup Forums?
It should has a new game
No. They pay for every copy sold in that console.
You are just sad that you didn't get one. I emulated NES back on java phones so it's not really about what you can or cannot do. It's about the charm of this little fucker.
Also playing it now and it feels great to just jump out from one game to the other with save states and super easy to understand inteface. It's a little joy really. I hope it gets hacked in the future to add the whole library.
I remember watching a video where they said the NES Classic Edition was more powerful than the Wii.
Imagine if you could homebrew it to run tons of emulators.
I have every game on that thing on my computer. But god forbid I miss out on the plastic box.
Actually they can't, you can't add any more games to that little piece of shit.
And the original NES controller made by Nintendo you can use for PC emulation.
a emulator that runs emulators?
Well, it has a Wiimote connector, so don't you still need a Dolphinbar?
>people will still buy this to play the same old Nintendo games that have been re-released dozens of times already when they could just emulate, buy a real NES or even one of those third party knock-offs that also plays SNES games
What's your excuse, normies and hipsters of Sup Forums?
Not for those types of controllers that won't use it. The thing is practically the classic controller with less buttons and a different case.
You missed the point there. Think of this little fucker as going to a fancy restaurant to have a nice meal VS eating the same meal at your shitty place.
As I said it's not about what you can or can't do it's the presentation that sells here. I enjoy playing that thing more than I would have with a simple emulator on my laptop.
Even better.
>Install a Gamecube emulator
>Download the iso for a homebrew NES emulator
>emulate NES games through a Gamecube emulator on a NES Classic Edition
>Y-you're all just j-jealous that I h-have this stupid piece of shit and y-you dont!
>Implying anyone but stupid nostalgiafags and parents hunting this shit down for their spoiled ass child cares
But how do you connect it to the PC?
>filters
Filters are fucking disgusting. You probably meant shaders.
>I can't let other people spend their money the way they choose! and on top of that.. HAVING FUN? NO WAY!
classic Sup Forums eryone
I actually care about playing the games more than looking at the box they're in.
Any Bluetooth adapter.
Yes, sure, let's just wrap up every single NES game that can be sold individually and charge it for $30. Surely we won't be losing money like that.
Also massive licensing issues, they probably just sprung for a solid 30 games to make the lil' thing desirable, even though they know everyone and their g.ma can just download and play these for free.
They pulled the same "low-stock, buy now" they did initially with amiibos to ensure it'll sell too. It's dirty, but it works.
>USB NES controller
good luck finding any that are not total garbage you are better off getting a USB to NES adapter and a real NES controller
I'm a Nintendo fanboy and a sucker for gadgets.
>Have PC or laptop
>Have virtually all the games listed
>Can easily just buy this for $10 as opposed to blowing $60 on a halfassed piece of hardware that caters to autistic retards that are stuck living in the shittiest era
They can if they want, all they have to do is make a micro USB stick that performs an update to the system and powers it up.
Wouldn't be the first to do that.
well good for you then.
>builds pc
>plays NES games
>brags
Not really surprised. Pc library is literally shovel ware making any NES game a gem.
and the up will be left or right the buttons will be clicky and weird and one of them will wear out in a week do this instead
It's okay for you to enjoy the NES Classic, as long as you admit you're basically a manchild who enjoys playing with toys.
Because that's what it is. A toy.
It's like a boy scouts badge, but for hipsters and wanna be geeks, and you can buy it instead of having to earn it. It's perfect.
To those of you who criticize its limited library, I say: Who cares about the games on it? It's not for playing games.
So they can jew you later for more games, it's modern Nintendo. That said I cant wait to see the tears of price mark-up collectors who sell old consoles and games at exorbitant prices.
I hope they do this with SNES to really fuck them over with licensed stuff like Super mario rpg and shit.
Sure. I really really like it because it IS a toy and a quality one aswell. It's not some half-assed chink bullshit emulator with shit unaesthetic interface and bugged firmware.
So far as the experience goes it's 10/10 everything is smooth and simple. The only thing I dislike about it is not having the manuals built-in I mean QR code? really shitendo? They had all the space in the world to put all the manuals and an pdf reader inside that thing.
until someones releases an adapter for the new NES controller this is the best option for PC emulation other than sucking it up and using your xbone/ps4 controller
Never buy third party controllers. Nintendo will sell a separate controller for $10. You should be able to use it on Wii Wii U and PC with a wiimote or adapter.
>The only thing I dislike about it is not having the manuals built-in
Why not print them onto an actual book? That'd be much better.
>
>They can if they want, all they have to do is make a micro USB stick that performs an update to the system and powers it up.
Actually no, its already integrated on circuit architecture
The integrated circuit is already soldered and doesnt look like it has a way to reprogram without deattaching it first.
Does the controller work on Wii/Wii U?
Clearly they think they can compete with emulation.
With QR codes you can pause the game and just read the manuals at any time on your phone, while simultaneously being able to play the game.
You literally have it in your hands, but you don't have to print the paper for it.
its a goddamn collector's item, like a figure or an amiibo
So, how long before we get an SNES Classic Edition?
But I'm not poor, so I can have both.
>sold out in the first month
they clearly can
This time next year
Next year will be the first Christmas for Switch, so 2018 or 2019.
What games do you want on it?
>implying regular jackoffs know anything about emulation
Eumlators don't exactly sell out, do they?
Or you could press the home button (reset on mini) and have the manual right there on the big screen. Relying on some "online" manuals that may go offline as the interest for this "console" dies sure triggers collector fags autism. I downloaded them in pdf format and put the on usb stick for now but it's total fucking bullshit not having them in the console itself and there is no excuse.
Yeah, all video games are toys weebfriend
Super Mario All Star, Super Mario World 1-2, Mega Man X 1-2-3, DKC 1-2-3, Kirby Superstar Saga, Zelda ALTTP, F-Zero, Mario Kart, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma, Secret of Mana, ActRaiser, Sim City, Super Mario RPG, Super Punch-Out, StarFox, Pocky & Rocky 2, Super Castlevania 4, Super Metroid, TMNT Turtles in Time, R-Type 3, Super Double Dragon, EVO, Hagane, Earthworm Jim 2
I feel like there won't be any FX chip games in there, so no SMW2 and StarFox.
The entire library of Alexandria would have fit into 1 gigabyte. The cost of its loss to humanity is no less priceless.
>its a goddamn collector's item, like a figure or an amiibo
So? You're acting like it's not intended to be actually played and used.
>Came here to call OP an autist and that it most likely has to do with licensing
>user does it for me
>Without calling him an autist however
It's a good buy for casual gamers, or younger gamers who just never played those games but want to have a go. Unfortunately, it's impossible to find and about $25 too expensive for what it is.
>The integrated circuit is already soldered and doesnt look like it has a way to reprogram without deattaching it first.
See that large oblong chip with legs on two sides on the lower left?
That's a spansion s34ml04g200tfi000
It's a 4GBit (512 Megabyte) NAND flash ROM.
See the square chipto the right of it marked R16?
That's a multi-core Allwinner R16.
It is PERFECTLY CAPABLE of flashing a NAND Flash ROM.
The controller connector is USB with a different form-factor and slightly different protocol.
They could add games at any time.
In fact, if you have a hot air gun and a NAND flash reader, you could probably inject roms all day.
with a Teensy++ 2.0, and an interface LED, you could probably swap out romsets with the push of a button.
Many of the books in the library of Alexandria would have extremely detailed illustrations and borderwork on most pages.
I would assume a single one of those books if scanned to maintain the actual fidelity of those illustrations would take up at least 1gb.
What the fuck is the obsession with that controller anyway? It's pretty uncomfortable, especially for longer sessions. Not only is it not a good controller overall, it's not even the best controller for the NES.
>diagonal buttons
I've played the nes in early 90's and none of my friends had this controller. Playing MM or Super Mario with this must be awkward af.
I appreciate your simple and tactful response but if someone doesn't realize that the post's either bait or they're retarded and deserve to be mocked.
dogbone controllers are actually pretty fucking rare as they came out with the 1993 top loader nes. as i didn't want to use ebay it took me 5 years to find a second dogbone.
Licensing
Just because you can download every rom, doesn't mean Nintendo can, because it isn't legal. They would have to negotiate rights to all of those games and it would cost a small fortune. If it truly had every game, they probably couldn't sell it for less than $1000
>all this bullshit
>Licensing nightmare
>Casual consumers get easily whelmed with choice by shit they've never heard of
>They dont want like 1000+ shit games between all the good ones
>Licensing increases product cost, casuals will pass if its too expensive
The only real question is why the fuck did it include Castlevania 2 instead of Japanese 3?
Japanese Castlevania 3 is the shit, better balanced, better graphics, better music.
You're assuming the system software doesn't have hash checks and other security measures that prevent tampering with the nand
As the device has no internet and no io interfaces that would allow an update, there is no chance it will ever be updated beyond the 30 built in games
cnx-software.com
Not only is it possible, someone has already done it.
retard.
Should I buy this or get a raspberry pi?
youtube.com
Licensing
I do wonder why some nintendo games themselves are missing though
>thought about getting an NES classic
>look up some MM2 footage
>sound has horrible delay and the percussion is fucked
What a shame. Guess I'm just going to get an AVS and Everdrive when I have the money.
>I do wonder why some nintendo games themselves are missing though
How else will they sell the New NES Classic Edition?
>Should I build a device myself or just grab the plug and play
Why the fuck are you asking us? Oh, you're just shitposting.
Serious question, why are people buying it?
You can get every single game ever made for NES on your computer running better faster than you could make a cup of coffee.
So they can sell different versions that have different games on them.
It's not bullshit. The main piece of information you need to know in regards to the post chain is
>The controller connector is USB with a different form-factor and slightly different protocol.
Which is perfectly feasible, and actually pretty common. Automatic file copying from a USB thumb drive isn't hard to do and is really handy. This principle is used for anything from an amateur tech guy installing updates on a bunch of non-networked computers to gathering the votes from voting machines. I'm sure the engineers at Nintendo could think of a way to use it
I'm not saying they would though, but it's not impossible. What that user is saying isn't even fucking hard.
Because other than turbo autists shitting up these threads every day with their Raspberry Pis, most people don't give a shit about emulation and would much rather just buy a cheap plug and play and not worry about anything else.
>why are you asking video game related questions
Didn't realise this was now considered shitposting
What are you talking about? Diagonal buttons became the standard after this, and for very good reason. The human thumb rolls naturally in a diagonal line when holding a controller, rather than perfectly horizontal. Every major console controller released after this used a diagonal setup. Hell, even the original Game Boy used a diagonal set up.
Playing Mario World, Mega Man X, Mario Land, Mario All-Stars and pretty much every other platformer on later systems isn't awkward at all, there's no reason that somehow the NES games would be.
I only have one, myself. My entire childhood, I mostly used an NES Advantage, but then transitioned to the rectangle. After finally using a dogbone for the first time in my life, I have never looked back.
>making people aware of a legitimate alternative
>shitting up
The only people shitting up these threads are the ones who try to discourage people having options.
It's not cheap though, you're getting ripped off because you're too lazy to buy a pi and stick an SD card in the back of it
>too much effort guys just wanna plug in and play
Because they're not going to include the Japanese version and the American version is butchered.
I just set up retropie. it took longer to download and copy the image to the SD card than it did to set up and start playing.
You don't "build a device", you just plug in the SD card, controller, and power supply and go. You don't even need a case.
>selling this and a pack of roms for 60 a pop
they are making a killing on this console
coste
Also serious, why can't it play carts?
buy a retron if that's what you want
does the same thing, dumps the game and runs it in an emulator
