Sephiroth had a better, more coherent plan, and was more integral to the plot than Kefka who spent all game being Gestahl's lapdog and only stumbled upon ultimate power at literally the last ten minutes of actual main plot development before the game opened to side content and character development of the main characters. But overall Kefka is probably the more powerful villain.

Both are rather disappointing in a certain way though, a hole in the ground and a tower of garbabe are not suitable places to build a final dungeon. In that sense both suck.

So Sephiroth. Kefka is a closet homo. Sephiroth is a homo that doesn't hide it.

Both are insane to a point, one wants to bust open the world and absorb the lifestream, the other wants to bust everything for shits and gigs, and both had a good reason to be insane in the first place.

Kefka was more entertaining and Sephiroth was more personal depending on how much Aerith's death effected you. Though alot of Sephiroth basically holds up on that moment. Both were decent villains and love their type of characters. I'd say they're somewhat equal to me.

I always thought it was neat that they did they same thing for opposite reasons. Sephiroth wanted to destroy the world to become a god and Kefka became a God to destroy the world.

Kuja is the best.
Its the viallain with the most realistic motives and great characteristics that make him much more real than Kefka or Sephirot.

People who disagree that Kuja > Kefka/Sephirot are the people that didnt play FFIX or pay attention to the game.

I love them all but Kefka wins by having the best battle theme, Kuja wins by being the best villain overall and Sephirot also has a very good battle music and I also like the way he was presented.

Sephiroth did the whole insane thing better, because you actually get to see him as a normal guy who you get to respect for his great skill before he discovers "well shit I'm not human and my mother is a space parasite what the fuck's happening I better become the chosen one now" and goes mad.
But Kefka isn't "crazy", just an extremist. Sepiroth believed the terrible weird things he did were right because of madness, Kefka does it because of his actual nihilistic beliefs that life is pointless, and he genuinely finds that to be true. Kefka is great because while Sepiroth goes crazy and starts seeing a reason to destroy the world, Kefka sees no reason, in anything, and that's exactly why he wants to destroy the world. Everything just leads to an end, so if he happens to find joy in destroying things what's the matter? They'd be gone sooner or later anyway. He's childish and whiny, and not getting getting a point or reason to things makes him angry. He holds extreme apathy to the world and is a person who probably didn't care for his own life himself, and is laughing even when he dies at the end of VI, while Sepiroth tried to fight to the very end, to the point where he used Cloud to bring him back to life and after death remained as a figment of Cloud's memory until Cloud sliced him to pieces. Kefka just gave no fucks.

If we're going to go for realistic motivations as a metric then I'll have to throw Vayne into the thread even if I personally don't like him that much, considering he not only has a better motivation, he acts in a far more level-headed way than Kuja could ever hope to.
