From what I have seen and heard the gameplay is supposed to be better then the first in a decent number of ways, but the story is cringe as fuck and completely scattered and directionless.

the gameplay is actually pretty fun and the writing is goofy and comical on purpose. unfortunately I can't play it because the aliasing is so fucking horrible its like looking through a kaleidoscope

Not from what I have seen. It's more self aware then the first game, but it's not saints row, they are just shit writers and it's easier to play in some self aware humor and pretend its the purpose then admit they have a shit story
