Mario is way more recognizable. The only pokemon normies can recognize is Pikachu and maybe a few ones from Gen 1. Even people never played video games in their life know who Mario is.

Maybe Pokemon from Johto and after aren't as recognizable, but most people recognize the name Pokemon and some of the gen one pokemon.
