No, they always rank as the least skilled gamers in every game that they play competitive. The only game they rank as nr1 is Halo and that is because they are the only ones playing it.

Japs have fighting games at least, even though afaik they suck at everything else.

It has to do with which society generally oppresses their people and has more unemployment and is overall a shittier environment. A country good at games? Well, that means they have a lot of people desperate to remain locked into a virtual world, somewhere where their efforts will actually have meaning, someplace they can actually be free from tyranny.

that's not really true entirely because your discounting the fact that when you do that you actually get worse at everything including video games.

they'll just be good at a specific SET of video games but there will always be a limit to how good they can be due to their degradation.

Look at WoW, for example, people can play that games for years and still be absolute shit at it because of their state of being.

north america has been bottom of the barrel in any competitive video game scene that has had a sizeable community outside of the united states. literally the onle games where they are at the top are games that are virtually only played in the US. stuff like halo and cod.

It depends on the game. The stats for who liked/disliked Nioh's difficulty were interesting, in that the US/EU players all thought the difficulty was fine, where as the Jap's mostly wanted the difficulty toned down, though it's worth noting that the EU/US players would be more skilled 'core' players, since Nioh is a niche game in the west, and the Japs would be any Toshi shitshoe who has a PS4

melee is a kids game but that goes out the window the SECOND anyone starts getting actually good, because kids quit or only play with items on when they get fucked up instead of practicing to get better.

I honestly believe that people who shit on melee are the same as people who shit on fighting games, arena shooters, and RTS:

they are STILL salty from that time they got utterly destroyed SO HARD 13 years ago that they became a casual at that moment and only played team based fps and single player RPG games after that.

losing a lot at a game that requires actual effort, practice, study, and reading other human beings' minds is fucking HARD. It can be demoralizing getting thoroughly outplayed, and it takes a long time to get good enough to start fucking bitches up yourself.

Many people can't look at losing/failing as a fun experience, a neatly wrapped package of lessons and knowlege. Being a scrub shitter is not a statement about one's skill but about the mindset. that's why they play video games in the first place, for a "challenge" that is intended to be beaten from the start and wants to let you win
