VTM- BLOODLINES

Can I play this without problems on modern PC?

I have no problems. Just give it the latest fan patch and have fun.

Get the fan patch and you are golden

If you get the GOG version with the fan patch yep

Agreed. Fan patch seems to get this to a point where most of the older issues are gone.

Only if you buy it second-handed.
Any new version would give money to the publisher that kill the dev team and forced dumb decisions unto them.

>buy it second-handed
why not just pirate it? no point giving some reseller money.

Yeah I just replayed it earlier this year with no problems, just make sure you get the unofficial fan patch. I had the steam version (got it on sale for 4.99), patched it, and it worked wonders.

Because then you don't get the cool looking box.

I tried playing it with instructions from Sup Forums, but I still get graphical and control problems. Things don't appear properly and the character moves at unwanted angles.

Yes, it's called using wine on a non WinPC.

Sad that Wine runs older games -- the only ones that are worth anything -- than Windows itself.

Does the GOG version have the fan patch embedded as a bin file?

I guess.

I've had some pretty fucking weird problems when playing it on my pc

The Health and blood meters appear VERY slowly, when for example I want to check my inventory.

Even if, Wesp has been churning out new versions non-stop for years now, so it's probably outdated.

Blood Hunt when?

So just keep the GOG and always grab the most current fan patch?

Would be the best course of action, yeah

Alright. I guess not burning it to disc yet would be a decent idea.
Besides the Fan Patch, any other recommended tools and mods for Bloodlines?

For the first time, no.

After that, there's stuff like Clan Quest or Final Nights that give additional PnP clans and fan-made campaigns

you need an unofficial patch or manually edit one of the .dll files since it won't start if you have more than 1 gb of ram installed it or something
i'm pretty sure the gog version includes the fan patch so it will work right out of the box so to speak
the steam version does not

So, guess I don't need to since I played it since release date. Regarding the disc version and GOG.
Glad I have the GOG version.

Which company has the Vampire the Masquerade IP?

I'm surprised no one ever made any other games in this setting. It would be a good setting for an RPG or a GTA clone

paradox owns white wolf
activision probably still makes money from the game sales though...

Activision owns Bloodlines. It's one of these games that everyone agrees on pirating being A-OK because of that.

Paradox owns Onyx Path (former White Wolf) and the entire franchise of WoD/ChoD though

Yes, but only the basic version. Which haven't been modified in a while.

Ah and bullshit.
Activision was better when I was a kid. 1980's kid here. Would love a new game for PC. Not Indie style but more The Witcher. Regarding dedication and care.

Everyone was better when we were kids. I actually remember EA releasing good, creative games.

And it's not so much because Activision is terrible, it's more because they're the main reaosn why Troika got the axe and the game was an unplayable mess on release.

I got this yesterday and I have to say I can't stand the combat so far. The shooting is shit, the melee is shit but I'll be fucked if that writing auality doesn't keep me playing. It's such a mixed bag and I love it.

I miss Epyx, Accolade, Broderbund, etc.

Normal pistols are absolute garbage, so don't bother investing in guns until the late game where you get actually get the good stuff available.
Also invest a few points in defense so you can start blocking and dodging attacks a bit more often so you can avoid the combat being mostly back and forth whacking.

Melee combined with disciplines is the smoothest combat style, I'd recommend you roll with that. Gunplay continues to be unwieldy despite the OP guns you get close to the end of the game.

>not going full matrix with guns+celerity

I've been having NPCs teleport/glide around randomly at will ever since I started up my first playthrough, even with Wesp's patch installed

Shit's still fun

It sounds good on paper, but the actual gun shooting doesn't do anything for me. You don't really feel the weight of the weapon, except for the shotgun, and that's pathetically weak later on. The first person shooting is horrible, but the third person shooting isn't that much better anyway.

With melee, when you bash people it actually feels like bashing and when you cut them it feels like cutting. Plus, when you're using celerity, I find it much more fun to have to get close to enemies and rip their head off manually because you actually dodge bullets in real time, you can see them travelling and you can move side to side or crouch to dodge every bullet as they struggle to hit you in futility. And then you show up in front of their faces, without a single wound. Feels a lot more satisfying honestly.
